HELL WITH NURSE SALLY
I just finished a 3 day 2 night stay at St Joesph's after a colectomy ( a painful abdominal surgery). While in the hospital, I encountered a night shift nurse, Sally, who I truly had the WORST experience with; it is even difficult to articulate. She was nonresponsive and adversarial. That said, conversely, ALL of the other nursing staff were the gold standard of nursing and truly attended to to my every need with attention to detail in every category. I could not rave more about them, & unfortunately, less about Sally.
The only consistent thing about Sally was her LACK OF follow up, BAD attitude, and even offensive language (like coming into my room, raising her voice & exclaiming "Jesus Christ" in vain, directed at me the patient, in the middle of the night).
She appeared LAZY, bitter, adversarial, and simply did not deem it necessary to prioritize my needs even when I was in significant pain (corroborated by my call log to the nurse center). I had to ask her 3 separate times for indigestion meds, ice chips, and other numerous requests (without any communication, updates, or follow up). She only seemed to follow Up on mandatory meds she was held accountable for via the bar code scanner on My wrist band (it seemed that she clearly knew how to exploit the system to provide the lowest quality of care without reprimand). I even went to the extent of calling my sleeping wife at home at almost midnight to call the nurse center to get a response when Sally was supposed to be attending to me. Only after that, did she Respond.
It was an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience, especially because it was like HEAVEN with the day shift nurses, and HELL with Sally, who I was stuck with, on the long and painful night shift.
Im so thankful for the angels in preop ( doctor & nurses & PT woman ) And the Rest of the incredible day shift nurses, who exceeded ALL expectations with their attention to detail, kindness, and generally joyful disposition which made those hours so much more enjoyable. Dr Gregory was also an incredible blessing, who took the time to visit me on two separate occasions. I Was even blessed by being paired with an amazing roommate, Doug.
Unfortunately, I would bet this experience with Sally is not the first and wont be the last, and I would encourage any & ALL patients to speak up and voice their experience with Sally. Let's try to protect future patients from this SALLY HELL experience no one deserves to be treated that way especially when you are not physically able to care or advocate for yourself.
I couldn't have been happier with ALL the daytime nurses Who EXCEEDED EVERY expectation, which was unfortunately stained by the disappointing and painful experience with Sally.
I know St Joesph's hospital values their patients and would not approve of this kind of treatment. I don't think Nurse Sally is representative of the quality of care This Hospital is awarded for. I strongly urge the administration to look into this Matter and see the care other patients have received by Nurse Sally.
