I get my medication from a specialty pharmacy. the specialty paharmacy bills to my insurance  company. While reviewing my claims, i found out that Hoag billed my insurance for my medication. I reached out to my insurance company and they corrected it.
I got a bill statement and found an invoice number that i saw in a previous statement. I reached out to Hoag by phone and emails. Over the phone, they said they would investigate. Later i got a phone call from a collection agent for the amount for the invoice. They sold my account to a collection agent with no explanation. They like to move invoice over statement to statement , so make sure you don't overpay. Keep statements, don't throw away statements although you paid it all.

My 92 year old mother was taken to the Hoag Hospital Emergency Room by ambulance last week.  Due to the Covid 19 limitations, no one was allowed to accompany her, despite the fact she is hard of hearing and easily confused.  This is what two young women did to her because they had trouble with a blood draw and she had no one to advocate on her behalf.  She felt like she was being tortured for nearly an hour  She was terrified to be there without a family member to assist.  Covid 19 or not, this type of treatment for elderly patients is completely unacceptable.  I do not recommend that anyone take elderly relatives to the Hoag ER until the policy changes.

Hotel Hoag is the best place to deliver. From the nursing staff to the service staff, customer service is top notch. I had an emergency C section 2 years ago with my son and was trying for a VBAC with my daughter I just had 3 days ago. Everyone was on board with the VBAC and didn't make me feel pressured to do anything else. I ended up having a successful VBAC with Dr. Illeck and it was the best redemption birth I could have asked for. Giving birth during a global pandemic is scary and the whole experience was warm, inviting, and first class.

Recently, we had the pleasure of staying at Hoag for the birth of our first child.  We arrived around 6:00 am as she went into labor. From the moment we were at the hospital we were taken care of with the utmost care. At the time we were staying the county has been dealing with a spike of Covid19. The hospital did enforce temperature checks and masks when out of the hospital room.
Each of the rooms were private and a good size with private bathroom. The staff was very attentive and did a great job taking care of my wife.
As the soon to be father, I did order door dash and as a tip you can tell them driver to meet at the valet entrance or if you're busy as I was at one point they can drop the food with valet.
If you're about to go to the hospital to deliver your child this hospital is great!!

I had a colonoscopy done in the surgery/gastro department with Dr. Parikh. My nurses were all so friendly and caring and amazing! Kim was one of my nurses and she was so sweet. I had a very smooth and easy procedure and was in and out very quickly with no pain. I left with a sweet card and a follow up call the night after I had my procedure and the very next day. Thank you for everything! I can't say enough or recommend going here. I always have wonderful experiences every time I am at Hoag, no matter what department.

Needed additional spinal emergency surgery and checked in on 7/6/2020 through ER.  That was a pretty tough experience as it was crowded with people scooting around in wheel chairs.  Once I was checked in things were much better. It did take 4 hours.  Got into room where the nurses came in to introduce themselves and do their process. Regina was on duty and was great with Alta was PCA and she was very helpful.  7/7/2020: Laurie was day nurse and was a little short at first but got better by the time she prepare me for to go for surgery.  Alta was day PCA and very helpful.  Night team was Pauline nurse , she was very nice and helpful.  Gina was absolutely the best when I needed anything.  I hope Hoag 3rd East is grateful for her.

Customer service all thru out the ER is 0 to none. Treated me horrible and felt like they were shaming me. I will most definantly not be coming back to this ER hospital. Horrible horrible horrible.

If you're looking for a place to empty your savings account on secondrate medical services, this "nonprofit, faithbased hospital" is just for you.  

In late February of earlier this year, I was having difficulty breathing for several days, so I decided to stop in and get checked.  The extent of the services provided to me included assessing my vitals for a few minutes, dismissing them as not serious, and then providing me with a sip of Robitussin.  Of course, this didn't stop Hoag from billing approximately $1,600 for my visit.  Unfortunately for me, the fun did not stop there.  Apparently, when you visit, they also bill a separate "Facility" charge under the name "Newport Emergency", where they tried to charge me an ADDITIONAL $1,400 where they attempted to essentially duplicate all charges during my visit.  

This has been absolutely the most outrageous experience I've had in dealing with a hospital, and I have been receiving medical treatment for respiratory issues during my entire life.  I shared my concerns with Hoag's billing department, and they wrote back providing no attempts to negotiate.  For this, I feel obligated to share these experiences with anyone seeking medical attention in this area, and please make sure to go somewhere else.

Had the most horrendous birthing experience and I am traumatized for life. I still have nightmares about it. Hated all the nurses, my doctor and everything about it. I made the biggest mistake of my life believing the doctor when I was told I could have a natural birth in a hospital. HA! My birth plan was a pointless waste of time. Then to top it all off my baby was in the nicu for 2 weeks so they could get a big fat check from my insurance. Also the stupid rules for COVID made it even worse.

Hoag Newport used to be THE hospital and after having our twins there I wouldn't step foot in that facility if you paid me. We had our twins during the beginning of the global pandemic which isn't an ideal situation. What made it worse was the hospital would change their policies by the hour. While hospitalized I remember a Sunday where they had a sign in the lobby that said two guests per patient and then the sign was gone and when someone came to visit they said sorry only one visitor at a time (which obviously was my husband). He was told by the nurses not to leave because they were unsure if he would be able to get back in. I know so many people experienced hardships during this time but it was the back and forth and constant changing of policies that made it unbearable. It also wasn't until the hospital went on blast by a doctor that they started mandating masks. I remember a nurse was in tears in our room saying she was scared she (and her unborn child, she was pregnant) were at risk of contracting the virus but the hospital didn't want staff wearings masks at the time because it didn't show well. We had our babies at 34 weeks and they had to stay in the NICU due to premature complications. The hospital specifically stated one visitor per patient but wouldn't honor that when we had two babies in the hospital. I'm not entirely convinced that's why our one little boy wasn't able to come home for an entire month after his birth while our other came home after two weeks. I was dumbfounded that each baby couldn't have a parent, I was even more disgusted when they mandated the parent that wasn't with the babies had to wait outside. So three days after major abdominal surgery (I had a csection) I had to walk down to the lobby and out to the parking structure where I sat in the car, very uncomfortably, and waited while my husband visited with our newborns after me. We got to bring our babies home and it was magical, we were ecstatic we didn't have to deal with all of the nonsense anymore, paid all of the bills that came across our lap and a few months later I realized we paid more than our out of pocket maximum. I called my insurance company at the time and asked how this was possible and they said companies will often send bills to patients without waiting for insurance to review the costs and I would have to go through everything and find the overcharge. So I found an hour here and there while my babies were napping and sifted through about 100 documents and created excel sheets all to discover Hoag had requested a payment of $2470.36 and my insurance company had paid the entire charge. My insurance company had even notified them they made an adjustment so I didn't need to pay that amount. Did I ever receive a credit or a notice stating this? NOPE. I called billing and asked if I overpaid and after 2 minutes, it took this person 2 minutes to open my account read the notice from my insurance company and state they owed me a refund. I of course demanded to talk to their manager because this is horrible! She of course gave me attitude, I believe her name was Rota, and stated they were understaffed and hadn't gotten around to an audit yet... It's been 5 months! I know she won't do anything about it because they don't care but I though everyone that visits Hoag should be aware that you could be overpaying on medical bills! Times right now are hard enough and people most definitely don't need to be struggling to pay bills while greedy corporations like Hoag Hospital just sit on people's money that doesn't even belong to them. Congratulations Hoag, you encouraged me to go to Kaiser and not play the ridiculous games of PPOs.
