Having a Neighbor's aide help out when my 88-year-old mother came to visit this Christmas was a godsend. My mother has Alzheimer's, aphasia and uses a walker. She has a great deal of trouble getting up and down the stairs to the spare room on the second floor. Our aide came every morning at 9:00 a.m. to give my mother a shower, wash her hair, help her get dressed and bring her down to breakfast. Then she tidied up the bathroom and bedroom before she left. The Christmas before we tried to do everything ourselves but we were all thumbs and ended up flooding the bathroom floor and upsetting my mother. Plus we were exhausted with the effort. Having help from an aide made Mom's visit so much more enjoyable for everybody. We'll definitely do it again next year.
