List of Alaska Breast Care And Surgery's Reviews
I highly recommend Dr. Sanford to anyone needing breast care. Her combination of surgical skill, clear communication, and genuine respect for the patient is exceptional. She has the clinical skillset, judgment, and professional confidence required to coordinate high‑quality telemedicine as well. The office staff and nurses are professional, organized, and kind. Communication about scheduling, paperwork, and refills was smooth. I always feel respected and cared for.
I appreciate Dr. Sanfords straight forward approach and excellent care. So much. I’m still here, 5 years after being diagnosed de novo because of her surgical skills paired with Dr. Kim’s treatment plan. ❤️❤️
Not professional, unethical. Rude, condescending. I do not recommend bringing them your medical issues.
Absolutely recommend, Dr. Sanford and her team and admin are all amazing and caring. I received life-saving surgery that went very well, and the care and support from the initial visit all the way to post-op was kind and thorough.
Dr Johnson is an amazing doctor. I was diagnosed with breast cancer by her in 2023. I could not have chose a better doctor. She recently moved to AK breast Care. She is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain every question Ive ever had, from diagnosis, care and even today, explaining my mammogram to me. She put my chemo port in and did my surgery in 2024 after I completed Chemo. She has been nothing but professional to both myself and my husband. I went to the new office and the office staff were professional and also explained all the steps along the way. I received reminders for my appointment and a greeting when I arrived. I did complete a lot of my registration through the portal but the staff was very nice.
I went in for a consult regarding itching breast. Dr. Sandford told me that I wasn't itching, it was my brain misinterpreting pain. She also told me the reason I was in "pain" was a hormonal thing and that it would go away when I finished menopause (I haven't even STARTED menopause!). She then said "we just need to trick your brain into ignoring it." Seriously? Oh, and "its been years since I had anyone who was SA." um...3 in 5 lady, 3 in FIVE... DO NOT go to this doc.
When I arrived I was under the impression that there were many possible surgeons to choose from here. But based on the prior reviews I read, only a Provider Sandford does them. I want to start off by saying that "kindness and honesty" can be interpreted differently depending on the culture and upbringing of an individual. It is possible that Provider Sandford doesn't define 'kindness and honesty' the same as myself. Long story short, I came in for ONLY a consultation for a possible biopsy and she expressed to me that because I have fibromyalgia that I wouldn't be able to feel any pain during a biopsy. I let her know that it sounded like she had little knowledge of how fibromyalgia worked based on that assessment. She assured me that pain wouldn't be felt (despite my referring Provider giving her strict instructions to do the procedure under general anesthesia) and that she would have it tested for more than just cancer. I let her know that I would never go through a biopsy without general anesthesia for only cancer but if it was going to be for many tests I would agree. She assured me it would be tested for auto immune possibilities and cancer. We did the biopsy (without general anesthesia) and I have never experienced soo much pain and torture in my life during it. She kept telling me I wasn't in any pain during the procedure and I was screaming in agony because "vibrations" were affecting me. Basically it didn't matter that my referring Provider as well as myself told her that doing that procedure without general anesthesia was a horrible idea, she was just in her own world and wanted to get it over with. After the torturous procedure, a day or so later I was told that they were only interested in doing a cancer test and no auto immune testing would be done because she just didn't want to based on "nobody can have auto immune issues if they don't have cancer in the biopsy ". Needless to say I was furious and I would suggest only going to this Provider if you have nobody left to choose from and are okay with someone lying to you and definitely not listening to your concerns. If I didn't care whether I lived or died, I would go back to Provider Sandford because I sincerely think she would perpetuate that type of depression and longing for death.
Dr. Johnson was extremely professional and prompt. In times of uncertainty, she offered comfort and reassurance while providing excellent care and support.
I have never experienced a clinic as unorganized as Alaska Breast Care. My appointment was changed 3 times and I had waited almost a year for an appointment. I understand given we have minimal providers for breast care in AK, it took a while to get an appointment but the worse part was when I finally went to my appointment, the provider did not review my chart nor my genetic test results and was clueless as to why I was there. Then she told me I should’ve had my Mammogram over a year ago and I explained how long I had waited for the appointment. The front staff kept calling me before my appointment stating that they don’t have a referral from my primary care and that they don’t have my genetic testing results. I tried to explain on multiple occasions that I didn’t need a referral based on insurance and my genetic test results were already in my chart at Providence which they can easily assess. Please listen to your patients and train your staff on how to manage appointments. As a provider myself, I always review patient charts before seeing the patient. It’s been over a month since my appointment and my mammogram order has not been placed by the provider who saw me. I have called twice and asked the front staff to call me as soon as the order is placed so I can call imaging associates for an appointment. Still waiting…..but yet they sent a bill for $168 for my appointment. For a clinic that specializes in breast cancer, I have had nothing but the worst experience with this clinic. I do not plan to return and will be seeing a provider in Seattle but I really hope other patients aren’t going through this because patients deserve better than this especially if you are charging a level 5 for an appointment and yet my mammogram order is still MIA.
Dr. Sanford is knowledgeable and did an awesome job of explaining things to me. She was very pleasant and has great bedside manner.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
