Alaska Surgical Arts Laser And Vein Center, Dr. Debra Kontny's Online Review Report Card

After years of stomach issues my PC provider finally agreed to refer me to imaging where it was discovered I had a massive gallstone. I was then told there was nothing that could be done bc there was no infection and I would have to just deal with it. 3 weeks later with no other option I took myself to the ER where I was told the same thing as my PC told me but the ER Dr did give me a referral to Dr.Kontny. I called the next day and was given an appointment for the following day. I went in there with no hope, scared she would tell me the same thing as everyone else. Dr.Kontny listened to me, took one look at my stomach and scheduled surgery for 2 days later. I am now 2 weeks post surgery and there are no words to explain how grateful I am to Dr.Kontny. The surgery went smooth, my incisions are healing beautifully and I finally have relief.

Recently I was admitted to Alaska Regional Hospital with acute appendicitis over the weekend. I came into the Emergency Room late Sunday night. I was seen within 5 minutes of coming in. The nursing staff and Dr. David Scordino were extremely attentive and helped with my pain, and I was able to get a diagnostic CT scan very promptly. At 79 years old, I was in a precarious position. Within 12 hours I was being operated on by Dr. Debra Kontny. I was in a medical emergency due to necrotic and leaking appendix. After surgery I required an extended stay for post op ileus, not uncommon with this type of surgery, along with being treated for infection and monitoring my ongoing irregular heartbeat. This was done on the third floor in the Medical Telemetry floor section. In summary Dr. Kontny is an excellent surgeon and I was quickly in surgery; especially considering I was admitted to ER on Sunday. She took time to discuss the surgery, before and afterwards and what to expect and to watch out for during recovery. I also had numerous questions which she patiently took time to give me a direct and forthright answer. She also visited me each day. This Doctor is 5 stars all the way. The personnel at Alaska Regional Hospital, both in the Emergency Room and the Medical Telemetry section, are caring and responsive. Being a retired businessman, it is obvious to me these are well-managed sections. All my interactive experiences with everybody in these sections were very positive. Five stars all the way.

I had a gall bladder surgery done by Dr. Kontny. My pain was immediately gone after my surgery. Dr. Kontny was able to see me immediately and was very thorough and compassionate. She explained the whole process and I felt very comfortable going into surgery with her. Dr. Kontny's staff is very caring and empathetic. I highly recommend Dr. Kontny as a surgeon.

I went to Dr. K because I could get in sooner than the other breast specialist in town. I'm SOO glad I did. She made me feel comfortable, she let me talk through all of my anxieties, she did an amazing job on my excision. Her MA is so helpful and kind. I did see the other dr I was referred to, HORRIBLE experience with that lady. She even told me "oh, just ignore it" when it came to my symptoms!! OMG. I'm happy I found Dr. Kontny and feel it was the best experience I could have had during this time.

26 years ago Dr. Kontny changed my life and my mother’s life. For me, id been suffering from severe endometriosis since I was about 14 years old. Had 2 pregnancies, both with placenta abruptions and TONS of bleeding. Had a partial hysterectomy at 24 years old. At 25, had ovaries removed. Still suffered from horrible abdominal pain and non stop bleeding. Saw soooo many doctors and had over 20 surgeries and medical procedures to find the cause of my pain. No doctor could figure it out. Dr. Kontny did!!! She pulled my intestines out of my body and went through them with a fine tooth comb. She found an endometrium mass the size of her fist attached to my bladder and intestines and it was starting to eat both. It could have been devastating if she hadnt found it. She removed the mass. I am now 53 years old and I’ve had zero endometrial issues or pain since seeing her. My mother had horrible, absolutely horrible, hemorrhoids. She had done every medical procedure known to fix them. Nothing worked. I told her to go see Dr. Kontny and see what she could do for her. Dr. Kontny fixed her hemorrhoids by tacking them back inside her intestine. My mother is now 85 years old and she has had zero hemorrhoid problems since Dr. Kontny‘s surgical intervention. We both talk very often about how much she changed our lives for the better and we will be indebted to her to our last breath. Thank you Dr. Kontny for thinking outside the box and fixing our debilitating medical issues. I’ve recently had some medical issues that im getting the run around on. If nothing gets resolved, I am seriously considering buying a plane ticket to Alaska just to get Dr. Kontny’s opinion and if necessary surgical intervention.

Debra Kontny performed a Hernia procedure on me the 23rd of last months . Went through a personnal hell of pain before I went to see her . Shes a true professional , compassionate and a true medical pro . Am almost fully healed now, I wish to give her a big Thank You for bringing back the old me .😁😀

Took my 17 yo in for a breast reduction consult due to ongoing related medical issues. The "Dr." said she, "personally" did not believe in "masectomies" for persons under 18 yo. She did NOT review my child's medical concerns AT ALL. Extremely disappointed in this Dr. The front desk receptionist/nurse(?) was kind and frankly the best thing about this office visit.

Dr.Kontny has by far made one of the worst experiences in my life have a far better outcome than what could’ve happened…in short, she saved my life. Being rushed to the ER with horrible abdominal pain I was admitted to the hospital for acute cholecystitis and it would’ve been a far worse experience if she wouldn’t have stepped in and took over for the general surgeon who thought it wasn’t a more urgent situation. After seeing my ultrasound she booked me for surgery that same night and ended up removing my gallbladder with 2 stones the size of walnuts. I recovered quickly and was back to work within 4 days with minimal pain. An A+ surgeon in my book and would recommend to anyone seeking care.

Dr. Kontny has performed 2 very successful procedures on me in the past two years, the most recent in June 2023. She was very professional and easy to talk to.
