List of Debra Kontny's Reviews
Dr.Kontny has by far made one of the worst experiences in my life have a far better outcome than what could’ve happened…in short, she saved my life. Being rushed to the ER with horrible abdominal pain I was admitted to the hospital for acute cholecystitis and it would’ve been a far worse experience if she wouldn’t have stepped in and took over for the general surgeon who thought it wasn’t a more urgent situation. After seeing my ultrasound she booked me for surgery that same night and ended up removing my gallbladder with 2 stones the size of walnuts. I recovered quickly and was back to work within 4 days with minimal pain. An A+ surgeon in my book and would recommend to anyone seeking care.
Dr. Kontny has performed 2 very successful procedures on me in the past two years, the most recent in June 2023. She was very professional and easy to talk to.
Dr. Kontny is one of my favorite Medical provider. She is always friendly, thoughtful, and puts my concerns first. I can not speak more highly of her and Karen (receptionist/ M.A.) is always helpful with all of my needs, my experience in this office has always been above my level of standards. Earlier this year I dealt with alopecia and DR. Konty introduced me to NUTRAFOL hair supplement and does an amazing job to my hair.. they have it in store now but I only buy it from her clinic.
She was my surgeon at Alaska Regional. She was very straight forward and attentive. She communicated very well and I felt confident in her care. She and her staff were very available to answer any and all aftercare needs. I feel very blessed to have had her as my provider.
FYI she is opposed to wearing masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19. I wonder if she practices good infection control practices during surgery - maybe it's OK to take her mask off periodically. You have to wonder.
I'm not a fan of how Alaska Surgical Arts operates. After an ER visit, I was directed to see Dr. Kontny the next day. She took me as a new patient but nobody mentioned that my insurance company isn't on her list of accepted policies. I found out later that the office was fully aware that they were not a provider for my INS. Covid is impacting everyone and here I am stuck with a $300+ bill. I was offered $6 bucks off and given a story that they have to charge what my INS would have paid if she was a provider for them. Not really sure why that is, since the office doesn't have any sort of an agreement with my INS company. She didn't have to order any tests or draw any blood. She utilized all of the info from the ER visit. Spoke to me for a few minutes, scheduled a surgery and I was out of there. Surgery didn't happen because the surgery planning process uncovered that Kontny is not a Dr. my INS allows me to use. I didn't get treated by her. I spoke with her for 15 minutes, maybe 20, and now I'm having to dig up 300 bucks. She seems like a nice person, but the way her office operates is not.
I recently was admitted to the ER, at Alaska Regional Hospital, where Dr. Kontny performed emergency surgery on my abdomen. She corrected the problems which were many, and after my surgery, she took the time and visited me every day for weeks, and I was extremely fortunate to be under her care. She is the most dedicated doctor I've ever met. I cannot recommend her enough...Thank You !!! William
10/15/19 I had a bad experience with Dr. Kontny who made dramatic conclusions with very little investigation. I was seen for a fistula, which she said probably created a hole in my colon and it was leaking into my vagina. By the time I left the office the 1st time she told me 4 things that would probably happen, the last was having a portion of my colon cut out and I would have a colostomy bag. I was also put on a liquid diet for at least 2 weeks (ended up being closer to a month) that consisted of Miralax and Protein shake from GNC. I was able to ask my other Dr. about additional "food" and he gave me a low residue diet to follow. At least I got to eat some food. She didn't agree with that when I told her about it. The good thing was that I ended up having a colonoscopy by a different Dr. and there was no hole in my colon. I don't recommend Dr. Kontny to anyone. Anchorage, Alaska
I had been dealing with an internal bleeding problem for more than a couple of years in the care of some rather prominent doctors and or surgeons. I gave up and with the help of the VA I was referred to Dr. Kontny. My problems were resolved and there is absolutely no regrets and no negative feedback . No more transfusions.
Great doctor all the staff was wonderful. I recovered with minimal affect on my lifestyle

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
