Four years ago I went to OPA because I knew my knees were shot. I remember with absolute clarity Dr. Powell looking at my x-rays and turning to me to say " your knees are shot". Yesterday, four years later , Dr.Powell and I had a very short visit as we both knew it was decision time. I have complete faith that I'm making the right decision and also have complete faith in Dr. Powell.

Excellent experience with Dr. Powell in treating a torn meniscus. He also did shoulder surgery on my husband. We were both very pleased with our care and our outcomes.

The OPA team did a great job managing and coordinating all aspects of my surgery. All the staff and physicians I delt with were sincerely concerned with providing me the information I needed to prepare for and undergo knee replacement surgery.

My hip had deteriorated over the past year. As a teacher, I was having difficulty maneuvering around my classroom. Dr. Powell looked at my x-rays and showed me I had nothing left to prevent the bones from grinding against each other…he explained EVERYTHING and helped me make the decision to replace my hip. He also convinced my insurance to approve the surgery when they balked because I was TWO POUNDS over their allowance. I now have a new hip, much less pain, better mobility, and I can resume the teaching career I love. I might even get a tattoo of a DNA double helix over my surgical scar!

I work in a physically demanding career and needed a total knee replacement. I had many choices nationally to receive the procedure, and ultimately decided to stay in Alaska. Dr. Powell and his team at OPA were outstanding and I can’t imagine a better qualified staff anywhere in the world. Less than three months after surgery, I’m back on a mountain bike and on the road to recovery. Thanks Dr. Powell and OPA!
