I’m always nervous a bit especially the first office visit but all was welcoming from check in to Dr. Flanum introduction. I was fairly impressed with his manner and felt he was one I could work in partnership with. He patiently went over the visual aids pointing out areas that explained the cause of my pain and what he felt was needed to relieve my chronic discomfort. I’m just glad he was highly recommended by my PCP as it was a lot to digest and I knew I trusted my PCP implicitly. Seems like a good start.

Stay away from this guy. He would rather do an invasive surgery rather than take a more conservative approach. I assume this is because he is more interested in money rather than helping the patient. The office staff is ok, but stay away from the surgeons.

He's often rushed due to how many patients he has and scheduling and also after my spinal fusion I had nerve damage and couldn't feel my foot or use it and he didn't know why and kept changing his story. Very frustrating. But the staff is very friendly and afterwards he spent alot of time helping me and trying to figure things out with my care.

I feel comfortable that Dr. Flanum and his wonderful nurse Leslie listens and gets a good understanding of the health problem that brings me to his office. He also takes time to do a thorough assessment and explains in layman terms regarding the problem, test results, x-rays and his plan of action.

I am grateful that my emergency life flight ended at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage and my spinal operation was performed by Dr. Mark Flanum. I was back up and walking two flights of stairs with strength within three weeks. At six weeks I am covering over two miles a day in the forest area we call home in Homer. I encourage anyone investigating spinal surgery to find Orthopedic Physicians Alaska and ask for Mark Flanum, MD. Thank you!
