List of Providence Health & Services's Reviews
I’ve been to ER’s in Florida, Texas and even Alaska Regional was so much better. After three hours waiting in the ER with excruciating abdomen pain, I went up to the nurse and ask for an ETA, she said all the beds are full and there’s people sicker than you. I’ve been in emergency services and that should be the last thing to say to a patient, when they don’t even know the cause or source of the pain. I know I’m wasting my time, this hospital really doesn’t care, I’m just glad I turned down a job from them years ago.
Always seems clean. No further comments.
GO TO ALASKA REGIONAL FOR A SUPERIOR EXPERIENCE!
OMFG! Providence Alaska is at again with their flaky shady hiring practices. But I did agree to talk to one of their hiring supervisor regarding a Family Therapist position. In October 2021, the hiring supervisor and I agreed to schedule our interview quickly the same week. I shared with the hiring supervisor that I was from Alaska, and intended to move back but needed a job established before leaving Washington. On the day of the interview we discussed my qualifications, and being originally from Alaska, doctoral level therapist, with over 30 years of experience in mental health, you would think they would take your application seriously. For example, the hiring manager ask if offered the job how soon could I relocate to Anchorage but when we got to the end of the interview, the supervisor switches and tells me they will continue interviewing for the position. Seriously!!!! You contact me because of my qualifications and years of experience, and then slap my face with a shady response that you have decided to continue interviewing applicants. On October 26, 2021 (a week after the interview) I get one of Providences boilerplates rejection notices for the position. Again, very shady and irresponsible of Providence Alaska knowing the severe need for mental health practitioners, they ditched aside a doctoral level mental health therapist from Alaska. Wow!!!!Providence recruiting and hiring practices remain extremely shady, not serious as a potential employer, and it’s sad they represent part of our healthcare system.Professionals out there, SERIOUSLY think before taking any job with Providence Health and Services. You will not be happy if you work for them.
Thanks to Providence Alaska Medical Center, our youngest child's delivery will always be marked by the nightmarish experience that was our first 2 hours in this hospital. Many good things can be said about the people in this facility. The OR and Labor/Delivery RECOVERY staff were top-tier. They made my wife and I feel welcomed and informed. Unfortunately the impression left by the receiving staff is what motivated this review. I mean, sure we had some minor issues with our overall experience but we understand - nobody's perfect! So you entered the sex of our son in the computer incorrectly, no worries! And you made me (as a father) feel like a spectator at my own son's birth instead of an active participant, no big deal... And before any of that, you schedule us for a c-section only to tell us after we arrive that the procedure is against HOSPITAL POLICY (2 days before 39 week window), water under the bridge! I mean, it would be nice if the hospital didn't accept appointments outside of their policy but I know that's a lot to ask. If it was limited to these events, we would have little resentment or much bad to say about our whole experience. That's because at a time when we should have been focused on ushering a young soul into this world, we were gritting our teeth and exchanging you've-got-to-be-fucking-kidding-me expresssions - all while she fights the battle of her life and I restrain primal thoughts from manifesting as frustrated shouts at an incompetent staff. To understand our emotional state, additional context is needed. We recently moved to Alaska a month before our child was born at Providence. Two years ago we had our first son. My wife had complications during child birth resulting in a significant tear that, after 6 months of healing, prohibited her from having a child naturally. This was on the advice of her OB-GYN. Which brings us to this October night. I'm driving my wife from Palmer to Anchorage as we both come to the realization that she is in active labor. We had set off thinking she would get checked out for several mild contrations and now began the process to arrive for an EMERGENCY C-Section. While driving, I call ahead and speak to someone in Labor & Delivery to let them know we are en route for an emergency c section. I tell the same to the ER staff as they wheel my wife back and I park the car. Some staff at the hospital know my wife. They know her Dr's recommendations. They have the notes from previous appointments, including the one two days prior. Now, staff in both the ER and L&D are keenly aware of this situation - is what would be the logical conclusion. And yet with all this, we are greeted with an undeniable void of urgency. The nurses begin their checks and profound observations such as "she's having a contraction". At no point did they ask us to start prepping for surgery. The attending nurse's complete lack of bedside manner was noted when she referred to my wife's c-section as "elective". We were both quick to correct her. It was then that we were effectively told to HUSH via a hand gesture. We were told to keep calm like petulent children anxiously awaiting the ice cream truck. We were treated as incompetent and BLAMED for the miscommunication by the attending nurse. At this point my wife's eyes no longer showed only the suffering that accompanies intense pain. Now, there was a fear gripping her - gripping us. We knew in that moment that this nurse's incompetence was putting her life in jeopardy. The urgent fervor we were expecting now began to permeate the room. Medical professionals with various roles asked their questions and we began prepping for the procedure with Mama 6cm dilated and contractions less than 2 minutes apart. The next 45 minutes alternated between rage at the system which may have doomed my wife, to helpless despair knowing there was nothing I could do about it. The feeling of dread eclipsed that of nervous anticipation for our new son. So, if I could summarize with one piece of advice, don't have your child here.
Great care, Fast service!
Man I love this place. Really took care of me. Super hot nurses kind people. Security is cool. I can't wait to get sick again so they can take care of me
Would not let me in the ER with my baby who has breathing trouble. This place is sick. They are ruled by politics not concern for people.
Had a terrible experience walking in , staff super rude and very pushy. Would 0/10 recommend they do NOT CARE FOR THIER PATIENTS!
I will never recommend Providence Hospital. I am 100% disabled veteran and went there last year to the ER. I was seen for five minutes and not even given medication. I have taken 113 point hit in my credit as the hospital was unable to bill correctly. I paid the bill for $520 in Nov 2020 and the VA got a different bill for $726 which they paid. Cornerstone Credit services was never contacted to reinstate my credit. What is amazing, I never got the bill last year. It went directly to a collection agent instead of to me. I should have had the opportunity to let them know I had insurance and should not be billed. Last month, I had to go to the ER. I went to a different hospital, and amazingly within one week the VA already paid the bill. Why does Providence Hospital treat disabled veterans this way? Providence has returned my $520 but not contacted Cornerstone Credit Services as they said they would on 23 Feb 21. It has been now over a year with the Providence Medical Center messing up my credit. There billing department is so confusing the employees do not understand it. They bill for the use of the hospital, the use of the ER, the doctors bill separately as they are contractors, the specialty clinic bill separately and if a doctor within a specialty clinic reviews your x-ray or labs they bill separately. Rather than send you a bill, they send it direct to a collection agent such as Cornerstone Collections services. Many of the collectors are not even in the State of Alaska. I had to contact both Florida and Texas collection agents and explain my situation. Still 4-22-21 my bill has not been resolved and the hospital will do nothing to assist me. I highly recommend using a different facility unless you want to pay for all your services out of your pocket. Providence Hospital is clueless and heartless about resolving debt issues. My credit took another 13 point hit from this incident and no one can explain why or what bill I owe. It is now 10 May 2021, this still has not been resolved and my credit has not been reestablished. Providence Hospital has no idea what they are doing with bills and do not care about your credit. Highly do not recommend them. I have tried over and over to get this resolved. Now 30 Aug 2021, the bill still has not been resolved. I will not use Providence Alaska Medical Center for one reason. The billing department can not figure out how to bill correctly. How should a 100% disabled Veteran with VA, Tricare for Life and Medicare pay for any services? My ER visit should have been covered by all three.
