Brent N. Barranco's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Barranco is very personable and friendly . He does not rush through but takes time to discuss and listen. He personally calls the patient to discuss biopsy results. He also has staff call the next day after a procedure to check on patient.

I was lied to, I was told they would prescribe me certain meds and then wouldn't. I spent maybe 10 minutes seeing his Nurse Ginger and that was it. They told me I could meet with Barranco, but that never happened. The people I would speak to when I would call with questions would lie about things that occurred, didn't. They would say they had all of their communications, and I was chastised by these people. The second worse doctor who I never saw.

My experience with Dr. Barranco over the years has been outstanding. He helped guide and diagnose an issue that ultimately led to complete healing after before and after I received a Liver transplant. I've met and worked with many doctors over the years and in my opinion, Dr. Barranco ranks at the top for professionalism, courtesy, and ability to relate and talk to me as a patient. I highly recommend Dr. Brent Barranco.

Dr Barranco is a fantastic physician. He is well read and always up to date on the latest medical trends. His Nurse Practitioner Ginger is wonderful and very caring. I highly recommend this practice.

A family member not from this area needed a procedure. Dr. Barranco performed it. He does not return phone calls when the medication HE prescribed caused numbness in hands and feet. Condescending attitude when answering questions. Please research doctors at UAB instead. Once we were able to ask around for advice, we realized we should have gone to UAB.

Do your research and know that there are other options. My prescription was written incorrectly and misspelled on my follow up sheet after a colonoscopy/endoscopy, this mistake was blamed on the fact that he just dictates to the device what he wants typed and it was the devices error that he failed to catch. I needed to talk to his office multiple times while experiencing different side effects (many severe) from medications he prescribed. Any time I tried to contact this office it seemed to be a large inconvenience to him and his team at Brookwood Medical Center. For example I called at 9:00AM to explain that my hands and feet were going numb throughout the day, a quick google search told me that this was an uncommon side effect and to contact my doctor immediately. My call was not returned that day so I called again at 4:40, unfortunately they stop taking calls at 4:30 so I was directed to the nurse on call who said I “should probably skip the medication” that night and wait until th

Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. No bedside manner.

Following a severe bout with diarrhea in the winter of 2019, a doctor who had attended me in a local hospital suggested I have a colonoscopy, which was performed by Dr. Barranco. After the procedure, a member of his staff advised me that he did not see any complications during his exam. I called his office a few days later and spoke with one of his staff members who relayed to Dr. Barranco my concern that I was still suffering from diarrhea. He prescribed a medication, then followed up with a different prescription a few days later after I saw no improvement from the first one. Both were of the same genre, known as "Flagel(?)", and can cause neuropathy in the extremities. Sadly, I was not warned of or about any side effects and took both medicines without researching to determine possible side effects or whether another medicine would be of greater value, relying solely on the advice and recommendations of Dr. Barranco. Within just a few days after starting the medications, I began having sensations of heat in my feet, together with numbness and tingling, but did not realize that the problems I was experiencing were caused by the medications prescribed by Dr. Barranco. Sadly, I am now unable to walk without using a crutch and must use a wheelchair. There is no known cure for neuropathy. I am left with no cure, no recourse, just the nagging question of why was I not warned? "If only...."

Dr. Barranco is not only an outstanding physician but he has years of experience in his field. He is compassionate, listens intently to your problems and then chooses the best path for healing. I highly recommended him as well as his outstanding staff.

He has treated me and my family for years. He is a great DR with a heart of gold.
