List of Stephen Douglas Owens's Reviews
I was referred to Dr. Owens in 2014 or 2015. I have cataracts and glaucoma. I was using drops and had laser surgeries in 2016 and 2017. My eyes worsened. He kept saying surgery. When he finally did surgery I have lost sight in my right eye. I am devastated 😢 because I am a healthy, energetic 73 year old female. Now I am handicapped. I can not understand why he waited so long. I am a patient in Birmingham now and had three surgeries al
Don’t look for this place to go an inch above the bottom line. Ugly hearted staff.
doctor ownes is an amazing doctor. he takes times to explain everything. i have had glaucoma surgery , cataract surgery , and treatment for corneal scarring as well as macular degeneration. he is top notch
Wonderful staff and an excellent doctor, treat you like family. Eye sight is incredible, highly recommend him.
I use Dr Owens on regular (annual check ups) basis now, but originally went because of eye problems. I haven’t had an issue with them with my Medicare/ Tricare for Life insurance at this point. My initial cataract problem was treated with corrective lenses for “good” eye until it got worse so I wouldn’t have to have to surgeries. After a short period of time cataracts grew worse in that eye as well so he did laser surgery on both eyes. I had been near-sighted all my life and for the first time in my life I could SEE everything—-it was amazing! I had no problems. Now, I wear reading glasses (even laser surgery can’t prevent aging eyes 😊), on top of my head most of the time, but small price to pay for age 71 I think. I have been extremely satisfied with Dr Owens and staff at MECA.
Dr.Owens is very friendly and professional. He interacts very positive with his patients.
Agree with other review that they are not military friendly.....especially if you are a retiree using the new plans. They do not take them so go elsewhere. Many places in Montgomery with better ratings do.
Went, 11/28/2018, in for a eye exam refraction for a prescription to order glasses online. The prescription did not contain PD, pupillary distance, which I did not notice until a few weeks later when looking for glasses online. I called the office hoping to go back and get my PD measured. Woman said they couldn't measure PD because they didn't have equipment to measure the PD. Woman said wherever I bought glasses from would measure the PD...will not online they don't. She said there where several places which would measure the PD for free but didn't give me the name on the places. Price had increased to $40 for exam instead $25 which my wife had paid several months earlier. Told Eye Center South out of Dothan Alabama bought out what was previously named Montgomery Eye Care. Associates. Need to take the extra money they charge and buy the equipment to measure PD.
I took a family member. The staff is awesome.
They charge a $250 fee to complete FMLA paperwork to “discourage Dr. Paulk’s patients from bringing in medical leave paperwork because it is not the physicians job to complete medical leave paperwork.” This is a direct quote from the administrative supervisor. They also stated that they only accepted cash for this service.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
