John Nolen's Online Review Report Card

My last visit with Dr. Nolen was in 2018... He had placed me on anti-depressants and anxiety meds and authorized a 10 day work leave. At the end of the 10 days, I did not feel 'steady' enough to return to work and requested an extension which was permissible per my employer. He denied the request. Stated I was fortunate to have received 10 days. That he did not "normally" grant time off in my circumstance. He then expressed that I had chosen the line of work I was in and I needed to make a personal decision about continuing or quitting. When I asked for a referral to counseling for evaluation/assistance, I was told by his nurse that, "Dr. Nolen doesn't make referrals of "that sort." So I returned to work before I was ready without counseling for the depression/anxiety I was experiencing. I could only believe that Dr. Nolen does not recognize emotional distress can and does create physical symptoms resulting in illness or that counseling for managing emotional distress can improve or alleviate resulting symptoms. It is now the end of 2021 moving into the new year 2022. I left his office that day never to return after having been his patient since the mid/late 1980's. I don't feel I'm alone in wanting both physical and mental/emotional issues addressed when they arise... Sadly, Dr. Nolen, after nearly 30 years of being my primary physician was unable or unwilling to do so.

Dr. Nolen has seen my family for many years! He is extremely caring and brilliant! He’s well versed on auto immune illnesses to the common cold… you name it, and I bet he has knowledge of the subject! He’s been there for our family time and time again, & we appreciate his sincerity!

I had the privilege of working with him at a hospital and followed him for my PCP needs.... My husband even approves which says a lot!! Thanks so much for everything you do

After a therapist strongly suggested I had ADHD I approached Dr. Nolen about trying ADHD meds. He responded dismissively -- and actually told me, in the process of our conversation, that there was no such thing as hyperfocus because "ADHD is about not having enough focus." And after my cholesterol readings came back high he *told* me that he was putting me on statins, and *told* me that I would be back four times a few weeks apart to test the blood levels of the medication -- with a full office visit charge and blood draw charge each time, of course. Not once in all the time he was my doctor did he ever mention side-effects or ask if I had any questions or concerns when he whipped out his prescription pad. He was very good at giving orders -- not so much at listening.

Dr. Nolan has always been both professional and friendly. He has gone above and beyond in helping us. When we needed a referral, he sent it quickly and we were able to see the specialist we needed. We are able to get appointments quickly and he spends as much time answering questions and listening as we need. I have and will continue to recommend him.

After going to the same doctor for 15+ years, i called to get a refill for my emergency inhaler for my asthma. They refused since it had been over a year (a year and a month) since my last visit. I guess they assume that asthma gets better and that you don’t need an emergency inhaler to survive.

This is a very personable doctor, the wait time is short. However, he misdiagnosed three times. He does not do tests before giving a diagnosis.

My 3 year old is immediately at ease when Dr Nolen enters the room! Her fears seem to go away and as a mother I couldn't ask for a better physician for my girls!

Absolutely love Dr Nolen. He is our whole family's doc and I take my kids to him rather than pediatric practice as it's much easier to get in and see your doctor who knows your family. He has always gone the extra mile to investigate medical problems for my husband and I, and has made wonderful referrals to other docs in NWA who were brilliant also. VERY good with children and great bedside manner with them, very caring, respectful of parenting choices and no question is silly. Can't thank him enough for how he has cared for us all.

Dr. Nolen and his staff are beyond amazing. I was referred there by coworkers and I have never met another Dr. Like him. I will never go to another Dr. As long as I am living in NWA. The wait time is 15 min or less, the nurses are amazing and have fantastic bedside manners. If you have never been to this Dr. Before, you are missing out. I would recommend him to anyone. He actually takes the time to listen to what's going on and is not trying to get you in and out with mediocre medical care. I give them 5 stars. If I could give more, I would.
