List of Jody Gilstrap's Reviews
I am always amazed by how thorough Dr. Gilstrap is during visits. Never feel rushed. Best primary physician I have ever known.
Very kind, caring and compassionate~ takes time to listen and explain. Doesn't hesitate to refer to a specialist if needed.
I had an appointment with Dr. Jody Gilstrap for 10:30am today. I am a new patient so I had to wait for 3 months to get my appointment. I received a text yesterday reminding me that my appointment would be at 10:30 am today and to "pls arrive 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork". I have never personally been to his clinic and was recommended to him by a relative who was nice enough to book the appointment for me. I googled his address and when I arrived and waited to get in, I was informed that he was now located at another location across the street. I drove there, waited in line to have my temperature checked, and was informed again that I was at the wrong building and needed to drive a half mile to the actual location of his office. My appointment was at 10:30 and I arrived and signed the sheet at 10:32. They informed me that I was too late to my appointment to be seen because I needed to really be there at 10 instead of 10:30 even though my appointment is at 10:30. I explained about the confusion with the address. They said they understood, but it didn't matter and that I would have to reschedule for another day even though I have waited 3 months. If in the message the said that it was 100% necessary for me to be there at 10 instead of 10:30 then I would have of course come at 9:45, but it only passively asks you to arrive early to fill out paperwork, which I WOULD HAVE DONE HAD THE ADDRESS ON HIS GOOGLE LISTING BEEN CORRECT! It no where says that it was a mandatory time of 10am in which case you should have it say "MUST BE HERE AT X TIME TO BE SEEN" in which case my appointment should have been at 10 instead of 10:30. We also had 3 months leading up to this appointment so if it was so important that I have this then why not email me the paperwork to have finished beforehand? I have never had this happen with a doctors appointment in my life and am completely thrown off at how unprofessional his staff acted. Very poor scheduling and handling of me as a new patient. I will not be back and do not recommend anyone to go here if this is how they handle their own error by not updating their address. I can't imagine how they would handle me if I had a genuine medical concern so please try anywhere else. He is apparently an amazing doctor, but that's moot if his office handles their business this way.
I had a difficult experience with this office. I called this morning to schedule an appointment. First opening was six months out. A nurse practitioner was available this afternoon. Receptionist took my insurance information and confirmed it would work with the practitioner. (This call took 28 minutes.). I ended by saying I will see you at 3:30 to confirm. I arrived early at 3:20. The front desk receptionist explains I should have arrived 30 minutes early for paperwork. This was not explained on the phone. She then said my insurance did not work. I then explained the receptionist this morning confirmed it would with the practitioner on the 28 minute call. It was a waste of time. This is why a large number of people don’t go to the doctor
I have been going to Gilstrap for 6 years. He is a great doctor but his head nurse April can’t get a thing right. She does not return calls. She does not get prescriptions right. They never get billing correct and their errors are your expense. Today my wife and I were 7 minutes late. After all the times we waited 45 minutes to an hour to see the doctor, April refused to see us for being 7 minutes late. Attempted to call the location mgr. No call back. They don’t care. Decide for yourself.
My entire family have been patients of Dr Gilstrap’s for years. He is very thorough and always takes the time to listen to all of our concerns. If there is a concern above his expertise, he is never afraid to say so and refer us to a specialist. His receptionists, Cyndi and Shannon are courteous and accommodating. Nurses Jessica and April have always returned phone calls in a timely manner. They r always pleasant and also thorough. I highly recommend entire staff including NP, Bonnie Moore!
Excellent patient care from Dr. Gilstrap and his staff. We have been patients since relocating to Hoover, AL, three years ago. Highly recommend.
I am obese. I know it has affected my health but it is not easy to lose weight especially when you are a middle aged woman. He tells me constantly to lose weight and tells me I am obese and looks at me with disgust. I leave his office very depressed and believe I will be looking for someone who does not make me feel like a disgusting, fat blob who doesn’t matter.
My family and I have been going to Dr. Gilstrap for years and haven't once considered going anywhere else. The wait time isn't too long and the nurses are always upbeat, kind, and equipped with a good sense of humor. Dr. Gilstrap works hard to fix any health issues you may face and sends you to the best specialists when necessary. 10/10 would recommend!
Great physician and great service.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
