Edward R. Flotte's Online Review Report Card

This is my second surgery by Dr Flotte. The first was on C5 , C6 and C7. Everything went well and his surgical staf including the pre op were very friendly and professional. Dr Flotte preformed surgery again on November 14, 2023. He told me to expect pain and soreness. He corrected C2, C3 and C4. Bone spurs had to be removed The surgery was going into the back of my neck. No problems as of this date. He might not communicate with me , but, that is not my concern. It was explained what he did and "bedside manor" is not important to me. The pain and muscle spasms have been harsh. It is my understanding that when you have this type surgery this is very common. Dr Flotte was the Dr on call yesterday (Labor Day) and based on limited, past diagnosis information he received from the answering service he left a very brief message for us to go to the nearest emergency room. Then this morning I called again and he had the answering service call me back to tell us to go to the emergency room or wait for their office to open at 8:00am. It felt to us like he was too busy / bothered to mess with it so…just go on to the ER.

Horrible bedside manners!! Will not visit him again!

Had neck surgery on 11/23/2021. From my first visit to the surgery and all my post op appointments. Hands down one of my best experiences with Dr. Flotte.

Dr Flotte is an excellent surgeon. He has worked on two different locations of my spine and the issues were resolved such that I am more able to move around, live a normal life and not worry about losing body function.

I was have back pain and was not able to bend my legs. Dr Flotte did surgery on my wife some years ago and we were very pleased with the outcome. I was recommended by others as well to have the Microdiscectomy surgery on my back. I am very pleased with the outcome of my surgery. Dr Flotte is a wonderful surgeon and I will highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good sergeant.

Dr Flotte rescheduled my husbands spinal stenosis surgery 3 times in one month. Unfortunately, he didn’t cancel the 4th time and my husband passed away 4 days after his surgery. I don’t think it is a good thing for a doctor to schedule surgeries, have a patient change his heart medicine pattern directed by the so called doctor, reschedule the surgery, and then do this again 3 times in one month. But hey, what do I know, I’m just a widow. I can tell you this doctor has zero bed side manner, told me if I needed to take my husband back to the hospital due to complications that I’d have to drive him 35 minutes away to a different hospital in Mobile where Dr Flotte’s “patients are” even though we live 5 minutes from Thomas Hospital and we were told that he did surgeries at this hospital. We arrived at Thomas hospital on time on the day of surgery and waited 4 hours before my husband was taken in for surgery due to the doctors tardiness and lack of caring. The doctor acted annoyed when we wanted to go over what he would be doing. Most of his nurses were pleasant although one had a major attitude as did the doctor which gave me a horrible feeling on our decision to trust this doctor for the surgery and literally made me cry. After surgery, Dr Flotte met with me for about 30 seconds and then never even called to follow up until a week and a half later when he called to say sorry for my loss once he had checked his records. Folks, do your homework. Trust your gut. Get a second and 3rd opinion. Make sure you get the first morning appointment for surgery and NEVER on a Friday when the care on the weekend could be needed. A good bedside manner shouldn’t be important but IT IS!! especially to the family members of the patient! This “doctor” acted as if we had ruined his golf game or weekend plans each time he (the doctors office) cancelled and rescheduled my husband’s surgery 3 different dates in a month!! Beware!!!!! My husband was 67, active, worked out, a prior Navy Seal and was in good health.

Personal I think he is a wonderful surgeon. I feel so much better after my spinal surgery. I had been told by several other doctors that I would be in a wheelchair in 3 years . Thank to Dr. Flotte I can walk better and will not be in a wheelchair for a longer time now . Hopefully never. Thank you so very much .
