New patient never got to see him the NP Nicholas verbal communication does not match portal notes no doctor after hours call only NP. Requested Dr. Call never called. NP's and staff decides your medicine and treatments not called back regarding test questions Ivy was the only person doing her job. Dr. Helms is a personable guy—his staff is rude and will talk over you. That aside, the level of incompetence is shocking. Dr. Helms has decided to practice medicine by proxy. He has placed his practice in the hands of young, incompetent nurse practitioners. This is becoming normal these days but you usually see the doctor after a practitioner has talked with you first. Dr. Helms is rarely at his practice during the summer months. He vacations nonstop. This possibly would be ok if he and his staff were competent. They are not. This doctor had my 88 year old mother’s chart so messed up that she could never count on refills. The refills would be a different milligram or the wrong med altogether. This went on until my entire family got involved and called the administrator and called his rude staff. Dealing with a rude staff required me to be rude back. Displaying such over the top incompetence—incompetence that is very close to malpractice—is a very dangerous situation. The third most common cause of death in America is by doctor malpractice. We could not allow it to continue so I complained loudly, which prompted Helms to dismiss my mother. Understand, he and his staff created the problem and when we complained, he dismissed her. This is a sign of a very bad physician. I was under this doctor briefly and had a very complex GI issue involving a PH imbalance. Dr. Helms literally told me this was all anxiety and in my head. He told me to stop seeing the specialist as they were creating the anxiety and prescribed Paxil. This inflamed my lower GI and made everything much worse. It’s now been diagnosed as Hypochlorhydria. I’m being treated successfully by a new doctor. This group and Dr. Helms are so bad that it’s impossible to detail everything here. Just be warned about this doctor, his staff and practice. He’s very bad at what he does. —Larry Shaw Pell City, Al.

Dr helms unprofessional needs to find another profession
I would not recommend him to my worst enemy’
Very professional, casual friendly manner, takes time to discuss all aspects of concern. HIghly recommend!
Dr. Helms was the most amazing, caring doctor I have ever met. All the doctors in the group took such good care of our father. The Lofton family
I have been going to several different doctors over the years trying to find one that could find out what was wrong with me. I had given up until my daughter kept insisting I go see the doctor she happens to work for, Dr. Helms. I didn't believe he could help but my daughter insisted I needed to at least find a primary care doctor so I made an appointment. After a 10 minute conversation he looked at me and said "I think I know what's wrong with you"....and he had me scheduled for several tests and then referred me to a cardiologist. He hit the nail on the head. I suffered for years. I believe had the problem kept going without a diagnosis I wouldn't be here. I feel he saved my life...Dr. Rock Helms is my hero!!!!
Dr. Rock is a wonderful doctor who loves his patients and doesn't mind taking time to serve each one of them, in turn you have to wait and wait in his waiting room. He treats each patient like they are one of the family and is especially good with children with special needs. We would never use anyone else! He is the best doctor in Pell City!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
