Eric S Schaefer's Online Review Report Card

I have been seeing Dr. Schaefer for 4 years. He is caring beyond what most doctors are. He is genuine in his comments and expectations. He will never say I am too busy. He is a 10 in my book. He has made a huge difference in my life.

Dr. Schaefer is by far one of the best doctors in NWA. He cares, he explains and he does not give up. His nurse Dana is as dedicated as he is to my care. There usually is a wait time and that can be upsetting, but as he told me, we won’t turn anyone away in an emergency. He does see a ton of patients and is extremely busy. My question is this, if he didn’t have a lot of patients, would you want to go to him? No me… I trust him and I know he and his staff are top notch. Highlands Oncology is a great place to go and not depressing like some of these type of facilities. The employees are happy and that should tell you something. I have been going there for over 4 years. They are a good bunch.

Very compassionate, explained things very well

He walked into my hospital room and said your numbers look good, if they are better tomorrow he would cut me loose. When ask about transitioning off of IV pain medicine he made a flippant comment. He did not look at my chart, did not listen to the nurse who had new information. He seemed rushed and ready to go.

I have many doctors but he’s my go to doctor. If I have a concern he listens and then does whatever needs to be done to ease my mind. I feel very lucky that I was assigned to him. You can just tell he genuinely cares about his patients

I met Dr Shaefer the first time after demanding his presence in my brother’s hospital room at Washington Regional. Ge had been treated for water on his heart and was told by hospital staff that they could make him comfortable, but he was in 4th stage cancer and there was nothing more they could do. Then he was subjected to numerous test to determine the origin of his cancer. He kept telling them something is in my lung. They said no we need to check your gi tract. Three test later and a week pSsed by with no conclusion. Then after checking everywhere else they checked his lungs and there is was. He had no sleep and no answers.Upon demanding a conference with Dr. Shaefer we were informed that he has Anedocarcinoma of the lungs. He was released from the hospital in pain. He started radiation treatment the next week. Still in pain and not sleeping. Radiation put his paun level over the top. For days each day we went and it was everyday we told the radiation care staff he wasn’t sleeping and in exteme pain. Finally on the 5th day he was seen by a pain specialist. Writhing in pain he was given an iv with 30 mg of morphine. By the time he left the office his pain had returned. Finally after doubling the oral pain medicine he was able to sleep 3 hours. It had been 2 weeks since he had slept. He was also complaining of shortness of breath. We were told he would be checked but he was not. Sent him home Friday with no dr available over the weekend. While his pain level was better now he couldn’t sleep because reclining left him without breath. He was now taking oxygen 24/7. Monday’s treatment brought him no resolution to his breathing and stll no sleep. Tuesday I took him for treatment and insisted they check his lungs. He was to consult with a nurse practioner. He waited over an hour after being radiated. Where she gave him an antibiotic for a lung infection that had begun the previous week, but they failed to treat. It is Wednesday and still no sleep for him. My brother has little chance of survival. With this kind of care he has 0 chance.
