Dr Spann replaced my rapidly deteriorating aortic valve in 2009. Surgery involved replacing my aortic valve with a bio-prosthetic & Sternal Talons to close my sternum based on his recommendations. I expected recovery to be difficulty but was astonished at how rapidly it went with very little discomfort and little inconvenience. In less than 6 weeks, I was back at work and, since, gone on to live an active life. I have recommended Dr Spann to my closest friends as a truly excellent surgeon.

I had aortic valve replacement surgery in 2004. I was considered high risk and did a lot of research to find the best physician in my area - that of course was Dr. James Spann. Upon our initial meeting I had a list of about 50 questions. Dr. Spann pulled up a stool , took my list, and answered EVERY one of those questions. I have continued to do well and have a productive life. My wife and I will never forget Dr. Spann. All his patients should consider themselves fortunate.

I was referred to Dr Spann with Aortic Stenosis. At that time, I was experiencing some very unpleasant symptoms and feeling a lot of anxiety. Dr Spann spent the time necessary with me to give me a lot of assurance that not only should my surgery go well but that the outcome was likely to be excellent. As well, he discussed the surgery in the detail I needed and talked about the options that were available. Surgery went better than I had ever expected and recovery was actually rather boring and routine: no surprises. I would recommend Dr Spann to anyone who is looking for one of the finest surgeons who will spend the time with a patient needed to prepare them for surgery.I'm now 8 months post op. My chest scar is fading fast and is just a simple line since he doesn't use sutures to close the skin. I'm exercising and living a normal life again and able to do more than I have in years. This whole experience has proven to be far less traumatic than I expected and that is due in large part to Dr Spann.
