If you are looking for a doctor that just sticks his head in the computer and is not proactive, this one is for you. I fnally went on my own to see why some labs were high and found out I have liver disease. Five years of slightly high lab values and never looked for a reason why. Missed Shingles too. I am done.

When my PCP retired, I looked to Dr. Amman to replace her. The first words out of his mouth upon meeting were, "I can't prescribe any opioids because I am under investigation by Medicare for over prescribing them. But they don't understand the demographics of my patients!" He was telling me he hands out pain killers to senior citizens like crazy. I continued to see him for a while. After a DEXA Scan, I was called by his office with the results and told to take X, Y & Z. Because of other conditions, I can't take X and Y. I was already taking Z. At my f/u, I asked him if he had checked my chart before prescribing them. He told me he hadn't because that would mean taking work home to review charts and if he did that he wouldn't have time for anything else in the evening. That is NOT something you say to a teacher. He said it was standard treatment. I don't want standard treatment. I want my doctor to treat me as an individual. Run away from this guy.

I am a retired Senior Leader in Health Care for the largest non Profit HMO in the world, and I am also a pharmacist, so I am in unique position to score Dr. Ammann. I would recommend him above all others as an internist in Southern Arizona. His medication knowledge is exceptional, his diagnostic ability is superb, and he is honest with a patient. He also is easy to talk with and is very caring. He is the perfect physician for those who are looking for competent and caring service.

What a well-informed, patient, caring, and patient-oriented doctor. Knows how the insurance company works, and knows how to get you the care you need, re specialists and tests. Wouldn't trade him!
