Joel D. Thompson's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Thompson used to be a fine doctor. Since he moved to Tucson Orthopedics his manner and interest in patient care seem to have gone vastly downhill. He is short, sarcastic, and insensitive, seeming to me as if he has great difficulty maintaining boundaries between his evident personal stress and his professional demeanor. Here's hoping he gets to retire soon, for everyone's sake.

Dr. Joel Thompson does, indeed have a publicly available disciplinary record for ongoing sexual misconduct with a patient. The case number is MD-14-1290 A. It appears he successfully had his probation lifted 5 years early - in Jan. 2021, not long before he joined Tucson Orthopedics - so it is not in the public database, but should be easily accessible by request from the AZ Medical Board. The behavioral issues cited there kind of explain to me why some reviews here speak so highly of his bedside manner, while others do just the opposite. In my own experience I found him to be unpredictable in his interactions as well. I would not want as a surgeon someone who may - or may not - be having a good day on the day I need care the most. The stakes are too high, and there are other surgeons in Tucson with the same specialty who do not have such a disciplinary history.

Very kind and took his time with explaining what needed to be done. Took the time to bring up visual aides to help me fully understand the planned surgery.

Dr. Thompson always listens and really knows his field. I have been a patient of his for many years. Carpal tunnel, torn rotator cuff, shoulder replacement, trigger fingers and wrist surgery. He has always taken the best care of me. Have recommended him to several people.

Dr. Thompson previously performed 2 reverse shoulder replacements for me for which I am grateful for every day. I decided to have my trigger finger surgically repaired and the results are superior. Having had 3 surgical procedures done , I can attest to Dr. Thompson’s surgical skills and that he is a wonderful person to work with. I trust him implicitly! I can highly recommend him for any hand, elbow or shoulder issues.

Dr. Thompson has to be the kindest, most considerate, gentlest doctor that I have ever met. I receive shots in my hands for terrible, debilitating arthritis. I have gotten these shots elsewhere and it was a horrible experience, one that I would not like to repeat. With Dr. Thompson, it is relatively pain free. His technique for administering these injections, as well as his humor and kindness, speak well for the good doctor. I refer people to him all the time. He is definitely one of the best, especially for hands and shoulders and for whatever else he treats. He gets high tens from me!

DR. THOMPSON AUTHORIZED AN EARLY APPOINTMENT DATE AS HE WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE THAT I WAS STRUGGLING WITH. A NORMAL APPOINTMENT WAS A MINIMUM OF SIX WEEKS OUT, HE APPROVED TWO DAYS. HE HAD EVALUATED MY DISTAL BICEP TENDON ISSUE IN JULY AND AT THAT TIME, SAID THAT IF I CONTINUED WITH THE SYMPTOMS OR THEY WORSENED TO CALL HIM AND WE WOULD RE-EVALUATE. WHEN I CALLED TUCSON ORTHO, THEY WENT DIRECTLY TO HIM FOR HIS APPROVAL OF AN EARLY VISIT FOR ME WHICH HE APPROVED. DR. THOMPSON HAS PERFORMED TWO FINGER SURGERIES AND AND ELBOW SURGERY IN THE PAST AND ALL WERE TOTALLY SUCCESSFUL. I TOTALLY TRUST HIM AND WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.

Dr. Thompson has done a fabulous job with my rear shoulder replacement! He is upbeat and listens than answers every question very clearly. I would recommend him
