Well, Dr. Smith is a genius. He saved my hand after a big burn.

Not anymore after the treatment I was given last visit and the customer service I was shown after when asked why I was charged double the usual and knew they made the mistake during the visit and I got charged for it. I asked to speak to Dr. Smith or the PA that did my injection to explain why after I was told we were doing the exact same treatment as the last few visits he somehow injected 3 times the amount. The wasted the steriod due to their mistake and I got charged for it.

After multiple visits for injections into my right index finger this last time after he specifically said we will do the exact same treatment as before since it’s been a year and seems to be working. Well after injecting into one side of my joint the PA/assistant capped the needle thinking he was done and when he asked for it back she said it was already capped and had to go draw more of the steriod or whatever it is they used. I didn’t think anything of it as it was their mistake until I got my bill and was charged for an additional injection and after reading the doctors notes it said in there that he injected 3 times the normal amount. So they lied I assume to cover the wasted product as I have tried calling many times and when I ask to speak to him so he can explain how and why after saying same treatment I got triple the amount injected. I have given up on trying to fight this fraudulent charge and and going to pay it as I am more upset over principle and customer service from this doctor and staff. I thought I had found someone I could trust and continue to see for this issue but this is sad and no one there seems to care about the patient or their concerns. Just get tye runaround and oh I’ll have someone call you back which usually never happens.

This person is the most egotistical, rude, doctor I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen many. He removed my arthritic thumb bone. He basically deformed my hand. Another hand surgeon was shocked to see my hand outcome. The other surgeon said it was a total botch. Don’t use Smith. He puts himself on a delusional pedestal of high importance. I’ve waited for years to see if I’d get over how I feel. The years haven’t made anything change. Im reminded daily of how I feel when I look at and try to use my hand.

This doctor should not be practicing medicine, especially at such a prestigious, world-renowned clinic, such as Mayo, and I am surprised to find out he never had any Arizona Medical Board sanctions against him! I flew over 1,500 miles to see this guy, and he is by far the worst physician I have ever met! He discriminated against me the entire time I was there, and he denied me my right to considerate and respectful care, regardless of my physical and/or mental handicap(s), and regardless of my diagnoses. At the beginning of the visit, I told Dr. Smith and his physician assistant that I am in a lot of pain and would like them to help me resolve my issue so I could lower my pain medication and live a normal life again, to which he asked me if I had any issues with substances without any evidence presented to him that would indicate such substance issues, and when I said no, he proceeded to say that my problem is 93% mental, and then he said it was physical, and then he said it was mental again, and then he ultimately said physical again. He also said I should seek out the help of a physical medicine doctor for a comprehensive rehabilitation program with a spiritual component, and he specifically said I should lift 55 lbs. barbells in order to make my physical hand problem better, and he then attempted to show me a video on his personal phone, which I am sure wasn't approved by Mayo Clinic, about this comprehensive training program, which before it finished buffering, he then said he couldn't show me the video, as it had profanity in it. He also assumed I cannot take care of myself and that everyone in my life is "tired of taking care of me". Before I left the exam room, I asked him for a business card in the event something happened while I was in Phoenix, and he said he was completely out, and when I asked what should I do if any complications arise from the injection he administered, he just walked out, without leaving me any contact information in the event I needed him. I later learned that he documented in my chart that I was putting forth “suboptimal effort” into his testing, and he also stated there was an “element of functional overlay of which I am unable to clearly ascertain at this time,” meaning that my nonexistent mental health issues are exacerbating my physical symptoms. I tried my best during his testing, and I was completely honest with him from the moment we first met, as I know that without all the facts, no one can make an accurate assessment, and I’m quite frustrated that presenting myself the way I normally am wasn’t good enough for this doctor to want to treat me! My clinical assessment of him is simple: DO NOT USE HIM!

I have see doctors working at Mayo. Thus is he first rude doctor who does not want to listen to my concerns. When I didn't sign up for surgery he recommended he got up and left the room.

Dr.Smith is a miracle worker. My hand was burned and he made it better.

Mayo is a great place but after two visits with this doctor, I would never care to see him again. I am a retired nurse and have met a lot of doctors. I have no doubt that he is a skilled surgeon and I am grateful he preformed a relatively painless injection on my thumb joint on my first visit. BUT his manner on a scale of 1-10 is a 1. He had no interest in listening to me. My second vist lasted less than 3 minutes despite his conclusion that the atrophy around my joint from one cortisone shot was ...as he said ..."shocking". He had "never seen" such a response. AS he was hurridly walked out of the room he was saying "let me know when you are ready to do surgery". His follow up notes on line were inaccurate because I DID have localized skin changes even though he charted there were none.

Worst Doctor I have seen.I have been happy with all other doctors from the Mayo clinic, but he was bad.I will never go back or would I recommend any human being to him.NEVER GO TO THIS DOCTOR

Love the Mayo hospital, absolutely hate this doctor. Generally I like having a doctor that cares about my well being and is caring and compassionate. This guy seemed like he was seeing me just to see me, and tried to get me out of the office as soon as possible. When asking about what my hand pain could possibly be, his final diagnosis was "I have no idea, take some tynelol. If it still hurts in a few months take my card and call me back". Calling this guy back is something I will never do
