If I could give zero stars I would. Had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment and this doctor refused to see me because I am unable to wear a face mask. It was not told to me at the time of the appointment that this would be a requirement. I have a heart condition and go into hyperventilating and passing out when I wear a mask. The office staff was very kind and helpful, however upon asking the doctor for an exception he refused to see me. I do not understand why someone in the medical field, especially for the heart, can be so heartless.

I have seen Dr. Chen for a series of testing for my heart. Dr. Chen is not only kind and professional but his testing is thorough. He answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Chen and his staff. Yolanda his front desk staff is always nice and pleasant. Great experience!

Dr. Kent Chen was curt and unpleasant.  He does not listen and does not treat patients with much though or caring.   My mother, who had normal to low blood pressure, was put on a medication that is used for "Lowering high blood pressure... This medication is also used to treat chest pain (angina) and to improve survival after a heart attack. Metoprolol belongs to a class of drugs known as beta blockers."   I requested that he not prescribe this medication to my mother, and he told me that I did not know what I was talking about (although I also take the medication and I am fully aware of the side effects).  Mayo Hospital prescribed this medication for me a few years ago. I was told to take 'as needed', and NOT to take it daily, as my blood pressure could drop significantly, since it is normally on the low side (just like my mother's).  My mother was told to take it daily, and was given the medication on top of the medication that was in her system at the hospital.  The next day she passed out.  She fractured 3 ribs and had 2 brain bleeds when she arrived in the trauma unit.  She developed another brain bleed and had a minor stroke that night.  She died within 3 days.  She was a very sharp woman, living independently for many years.  This did not have to happen, and would not have happened had he not prescribed the medications.  Honor Health stated that the 'medical decision-making process and care provided' (was) 'appropriate and standard care.'  I am glad I am a  patient at Mayo Hospital!!  I believe he is uncaring, does not listen, and has no concept of healthy care.  He goes by the book, which, in this instance, killed my mother. I do not recommend this doctor. Dr. Renee D. Espinosa was my mothers regular cardiologist.  I believe that had she been caring for my mother that week, my mother would still be alive today.  She appears to be more caring and treats each patient rather than just prescribing medication because that is what 'is appropriate and standard care'.  I can see why Dr. Chen has only 1 star from others.

Dr Chan is excellent. Explains in great detail your tests and results. Very kind and understanding. I would highly recommend him.

Review: I’ve dealt with Dr. Chen two times in the hospital now and both times I felt like he was very condescending and over very trivial things. If he perceives that you are asking too many questions, he will give you answers like you’re an ignorant child. That’s not helpful whatsoever. When someone’s had a heart attack they need information. The last thing a doctor should do is make their patient feel stupid when trying to learn from their doctor. You certainly cannot question him or ask for any procedures that weren’t HIS idea. He’s unwilling to provide comfort or think outside the box for care. I am so unsatisfied with his care, that will make sure to avoid Scottsdale Osborn hospital altogether - so that I don't get stuck seeing him again.

I found my visits to Cardiovascuar Consultants and Kent V Chen, M.D. to be unpleasant as well as unprofessional.  I called the office in advance of my first appointment for a stress test to ask what I should wear, thinking I should have sneakers, I was told that they were not going to put me on the treadmill.  They were wrong. I went in flip-flops and went on the treadmill anyway, but they stopped the testing because they thought that it wasn't the best way to take the test. However, their report did not indicate that .  Instead, they wrote that I was short of breath (I wasn't--I hike regularly).  I could not find their office in the complex at my first visit.  My smartphone was not helping, so I called them 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment.  I told the person who answered where I was.  I was in the complex.  I was warned that if I didn't get there within 15 minutes after the appointment time, I would not be seen.  I found a place to park, ran there.  My blood pressure was taken right away, and it was elevated.  It is usually completely normal at other doctor's visits.  They did not retake it later.  When I mentioned this to Dr. Chen at my visit to go over the results of the stress test, he insisted that it was accurate and urged me to get a cuff to take my blood pressure regularly.  He was judgmental, refused to listen to my concerns about the experience of the stress test, calling me "argumentative."  I am in good shape, eat well, have always had blood pressure varying between 120/70 to 126/74.  I used to administer EKG tests for my father, who was board certified in 5 specialties, and had a empathic manner with his patients.  Dr. Chen has much to learn.
