William Stevens's Online Review Report Card

The administrative staff and nurses at the clinic I saw this guy at are wonderful. William... much less so. He criticized my mobility aid (and why I thought I needed it?) with zero empathy or any seeming interest in understanding. His only focus was how "normal" my movement seemed, as he disregarded the fact that my mobility aid was the only reason I was able to briefly move normally. He gave the impression that if a person wasn't at their worst in his office, than they didn't have a problem at all. He interrupted me constantly throughout the entire... maybe six to ten minutes he actually talked to me? Cutting me off whenever I would try to go into any details of what I was experiencing. He asked if I'd gotten physical therapy, and cut me off again when I began trying to tell him why it didn't seem to do enough, and why I was taking the next step to figure out what was going on. He didn't actually ask me any real questions - he just stopped me, said, "... I'm a surgeon." (Yes... yes you are. Congratulations? Is that the magic key card to not have to listen to your patients, sir? Are you only interested if you're sure you can put me under a knife? So...confusing, tbh) And then told me it's "just a regular back ache," and dismissively stated I just needed to do more physical therapy. Sir, a doctor referred me to you for a reason? He got ZERO real information from me, and 100% gave the impression he had no plan to actually look into my situation beyond, "it's nothing, go somewhere else." Also... is it normal to have them take multiple x-rays... only for them never to be brought up again? Or shown? Why get them at all if all you're going to do is demean your patient, not use the images to explain anything, and then rush them out of your office? In short... a lot of medical gaslighting's key points were met here, and nothing else was. Perhaps not intentionally, but it's still not good, and since I wasn't told WHY this happened... I'm left to wonder whether it was annoyance, a tendency to not believe his patients, straight up discrimination based on something in the forms I filled outbeforehand, or just him having a bad day. No matter what though... if my condition gets worse and other providers ask me what I've tried to do to recover, the story of my interaction with him is naturally gonna be a part of the information. And I hope that others who see him don't get the same thoughtless going-through-the-most-basic-of-motions in place of genuine care. My goal is to get a referral to a specialist that at least pretends to see patients as more than a puzzle/nuisance, and one who'll allow real communication and take actual steps to figure out what might or might not be going on. Instead of... seeming to pluck the answer with the least amount of work for him from the air and presenting it to me like the world's least impressive diploma. Probably stamped with "... I'm a *surgeon*," in bold, I imagine.

The office staff were actually very nice. They were understanding and I felt bad because the office waiting room was full of patients. I have the understanding that a full waiting room and office running behind can happen for a variety of reasons. However, the chief of which is usually the management. So I instantly felt empathy for them When I finally got in, 90 minutes behind my appointment schedule, I felt rushed and dismissed. I have been experiencing sciatic pain that stops me from walking and causes incontinence for two years. I'm only twenty years old and relatively healthy. Dr. Stevens made me do a bunch of tests with no explanation as to why. Then recommended physical therapy without saying the source of my pain. He said it wasn't my scoliosis or how I sit or anything. He just said 'everyone experiences back pain' which, while true, every twenty year old is not having to use a walker just to get out of bed. If you HAVE to see him it's fine, I just think they're better options

This man has a special gift. He is the only surgeon I know who will do work on the spine that other surgeons won’t do. Anything less than a 5 star rating is questionable.

Worst experience with a physician in my lifetime. I was treated as if I was bothering him. Dr. Stevens was rough in his physical examination and showed no concern or compassion for my pain. His recommendation was to never lift anything heavier than 10 pounds and to get a different job. I had to ask him what the results were of the x-rays of my back injury, as well as what was causing pain and even what the treatment should be. I have seen two other surgeons from OrthoArizona who were fantastic, thorough, pro-active, and were genuinely concerned for my well-being. Dr. Stevens is a disgrace to this practice and to the pratice of medicine.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN AND HIS PRACTICE!! DO NOT LET HIM OPERATE ON YOU! I had a straightforward herniated disc at L4 L5. After spending tens of thousands of dollars and months in recovery my lower back pain and sciatica never improved. In fact it got much worse. After returning to Dr. Stevens he told me to go get more epidurals. He has zero empathy and rushes through every single appointment with you. Please dont make the horrible mistake I did and let him operate on you! There are much better surgeons out there that actually care or at the very least will pretend to.

Had an appt scheduled with him. Was there over an hour and I never got to see him in person. His np came in and said “ I don’t know what’s causing the pain” I checked with him and he agrees . Then proceeded to ask if I wanted to schedule a follow up….

Dr. Stevens, his Assistant Amy, the Entire Staff at the O.A.S.I.S Hospital and the Staff at OrthoArizona are professional, courteous and understanding as a Medical/Surgical practice can be. I had my C-5/C-6 & C-6/C-7 Discs replaced on 23 May 2023 and it is now 2 June 2023 and I am 100% Pain Free with full Range of motion. My Chronic Pain for the past 1.5 years prior to surgery was unbearable, I received Physical Therapy for 6 Months (that didn't work), had 3 rounds of steroid injections (that didn't work), had (26) Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections (that didn't work). What worked was Dr. Stevens Top-Notch Spine Surgery Skills!!! Could not ask for a better outcome, I would trust anyone I know to receive Spine Surgery from Dr. Stevens. Being a Retired Marine with 100% VA Disability, I am so grateful that the VA refers veterans to the Community Healthcare network to receive 1st Class Medical Care. If Google allowed me to give him and his staff 10 Stars, I definitely would.

I was referred to Dr. Stevens by my PCP after having problems with my sciatic nerve and stenosis. When I went to see him I waited 40 minutes before being called back to an exam room. Once in the room I was questioned by his assistant before seeing him. When he finally came to the room he was dismissive and rude. He almost seemed disinterested in my reason for being there as though I was wasting his time. He said he was a surgeon, I didn’t need surgery, and ended the visit. He didn’t ask me anything about my symptoms, my imaging results or anything. My visit took only a few minutes. I would not recommend Dr. Stevens to anyone. If you want a dr that cares even the slightest I would suggest seeing someone else.

The worst doctor I have ever seen in my adult years. Rude, short, & bothered is how characterize him.
