List of J. Shepard Bryan Md's Reviews
This is not a review of Dr. Shepard, he seems competent. This is a review of the communication capability of the office. Appointment times mean NOTHING at this office. I understand emergencies happen with retinas, but how hard is it to update patients who are there for follow-ups and say "hey, today's going to be a rough day and your wait might be long." Or, inform patients up front that a 3:30 appointment might mean it becomes 6pm and you have chores to do at home and your sitting in the appointment room still waiting for the doctor without even a peep that it's going to be 15, 20, 30 minutes longer. That way you can make plans, or take your work to the office with you so that it's not a waste of valuable time. Then, when you decide you can't wait anymore because you have stuff to get done, no one even tries to stop you or says "hey it's only going to be 10 more minutes" or whatever. Just frustrated by this practice for this reason. Anyway, if you need retina work, the doctor is good but know the appointment time means zilch, nothing, nada. Go with busy work, line up pet-sitters, or whatever other coverage you might need.
Dr's Skill average to very good. Waiting 2 hours for every appointment, very poor time management.
Dr. Bryan is a fabulous and caring retina specialist who I’ve been seeing for 20+ years!! I now visit him 2x/year, am severely nearsighted, and detachments run in my family history.
After a 10mm tear to the globe of the eye that also smashed the lens, things did not look that good for me. 18 months in total darkness on the left eye was tough but what joy when the plan to stitch a new synthetic lens to my eye gave me back 20/40 eyesight. I never thought I would ever see again out of that eye. Great surgeon, great manner and a really nice guy. From the bottom of my heart thank you Dr.Bryan.
It felt like I had a droopy eyelid or that a curtain was coming down and obscuring the vision in my right eye. Unfortunately, I waited days before I went to an ophthalmologist. It was the day before Memorial Day when I saw him. I could tell he was very concerned and he stepped out of the exam room to make a phone call. He came back and said he was sending me to a retinal specialist. He said, “Dr. Shepard Bryan will meet you at his office tomorrow morning.” I replied, “Tomorrow is Memorial Day; everyone has the day off”. He answered, “He’s coming in - just to see you”. So, I was examined the next morning by Dr. Bryan. He said to me, “You’re going to need surgery right away”. When I asked, “When?” he said, “Right now, we’re going over to the hospital from here.” It was all pretty surreal. This doctor had made my care and wellbeing his highest priority. Soon I was on the gurney, waiting to be wheeled into the cold surgery room. I was panicked. I told the nurse standing next me that I never had time to research and review Dr. Bryan’s background and ratings; it had all happened too fast. She squeezed my hand and said, “Sweetie, you have been blessed and you have the very finest surgeon to reattach your retina. You’re going to be good as new”. She was absolutely right. This happened a number of years ago. My vision was fully restored through the skilled hands of Dr. Bryan. He has since treated tears in the retina of my other eye and has also treated my wife’s histoplasmosis and retinal bleeding. He continues to be a huge blessing in our lives. If you are looking for a retinal specialist, please accept my heartfelt recommendation for Dr. Shepard Bryan and the skilled team of Associated Retina Specialists.
After 9 yrs of seeing Dr. Bryan we are sadly searching for a new physician.
Dr. Bryan diagnosed me with a detached retina on a Friday. He chose not to stay to treat me that day but rather to work on me on Monday. Not very patient oriented. Also, my reattachment was not 100% and now have distortion in that eye
I am speaking on behalf of my significant other who has been dealing with an eye condition for more than 6 years. It has been frustrating going from doctor to doctor without finding many answers. I am in the medical field myself so I know this healthcare system can be extremely challenging and even feel hopeless at times. But we kept searching. We finally found Dr Shepard Bryan. What a God send. He is kind, clear, direct and will spend the time to dig deep. Things will not happen over night so patience and effort are still required but answers will come. The process at the eye center is long and thorough so be prepared to spend most of your day there. That will eliminate any frustration up front. We feel so blessed that we found such a wonderful, caring doctor. He is a shining light in his field of expertise.
Dr J. Shepard Bryan was the best ophthalmologist in the United States of America. He is the reason is see today. I look around searching doctors like Dr. Dugel and they were all horrible, but then I met Dr. Bryan and he cured my blindness. God bless Dr. Bryan.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
