List of Paul Gause's Reviews
I have been a patient of Dr. Gause for several years. I have always been very active through my life - was a professional soccer player in the UK as a young man, and have played many sports and run many races.. Sadly wear and tear and osteoarthritis have caught up with me in recent years. Dr. Gause has mentored me through the phases of physical therapy, cortisone shots and in recent years surgery. After much care and consideration and with his skilled advice I have, in recent years, had fusions of both neck and recently lumbar vertebrae. The skill and care that I received from Dr. Gause and his team and the experts at Thompson Peak Hospital have been world-class.
Good luck getting any return calls from Dr Gause, regarding your treatment plan. They see you once and no call back! I would not recommend this office. No communication!!
This is both a huge "Thank You" to the team at The Spine Institute of Arizona, and also a heartfelt affirmation that Dr. Paul Gause is the absolute best there is! Would give him 10 Stars if I could. My story:I had what I thought were hip issues for a couple of years. Walking became difficult and very painful, and finally an MRI showed I had 6 ruptured disks between L1 all the way to S1. Add to that a severe dislocation of L4 and L5 and rampant Stenosis up and down my lower spine. That said, I fly trapeze at a high level and my goal was to get this all fixed and return to flying trapeze. I actually went through appointments with 5 different Spine Surgeons before meeting with Dr. Gause. By most all of them I was met with disbelief, and even disdain, that I would want to continue to fly trapeze with the condition of my spine and my age. I was 65 years old at the time they all were very pessimistic and utterly dismissive of my goal..Dr. Gause was the only surgeon I met with who looked at me as a whole person and not just a demographic. He asked to see video of my flying to establish the stress points on the back and make a decision on my flying trapeze again. (He was the only one who did) He literally said, after watching videos, “Yeah, we’ll fix you up so you can do this again.”Fast forward 2 years after Dr. Gause performed the surgery on my spine, with about 8/10 Laminectomies, a bunch of Discectomies, and a fusing of L4/L5. I am back with my team flying trapeze at 100%...with no pain and a complete recovery behind me. Literally, no BS…100% functional recovery and pain free in every way.I have recommended Dr. Gause to many friends who have spine issues and would unabashedly say to anyone who requires spine surgery to absolutely see Dr. Gause and, frankly, just book the surgery with him as there is no one better…for real…no one. There is no doubt in my mind my being back to peak form, now at 67, and flying trapeze with my team, is totally because of Dr. Gause and his amazing team. I welcome anyone who wants to talk about it as I have been there, and have heard the worst prognosis possible from other doctors. But with Dr. Gause, even with the extent of my spine damage, I am back at 100%.I love sharing good news! For context in the photos below. First, my "hardware". Then, the 'sweepback' in neon is pre-injury/the sweepback in orange is 18 months after surgery, with fusing. The montage of 8 photos is a trick called a Planche. The left is pre-injury/the right is 2 years after surgery. The Layout pic was just a few weeks ago, 2 years post surgery. —
I strongly recommend Dr. Gause to anyone considering back surgery. I am a 72yr old female and had been suffering with back pain for a number of years. After Physical Therapy, Cortisone injections, and acupuncture did not help, I decided stronger action was required. After thorough testing Dr. Gause informed me that I was a good candidate for surgery. At first I was reluctant, having heard many bad stories about back surgery. However, I was losing strength in my legs. After consulting with Dr. Gause, I decided to proceed. Dr. Gause and his staff were efficient and thorough in preparing me for surgery. I was up and walking soon after surgery. After six months, my scar is practically invisible and I am completely pain free and regaining all of my strength back. The quality of my life has vastly improved and I look forward to enjoying the activities I did before my back problems. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Gause for what seems to be a miracle.
He used to be a healer, a humanitarian, on good terms with Hippocrates. Not any more.
I feel very lucky to have gotten Dr. Gause to be my surgeon. I was afraid; I was always in some pain from my herniated disk; I couldn’t stand for more than one minute without tremendous pain. Dr. Gause explained why and, after quickly facing the facts, I decided that surgery was my best option. He and his staff at the Spine Institute of Arizona were amazing! I barely managed to walk in to the operation, and about 2 hours later I walked out - PAIN FREE. I obviously don’t remember anything about the operation, because of the anesthesia, but Dr. Gause did a first rate job. I feel no pain, and I have my life back. When I first returned home I did take one pain pill as a precaution, but the pain never came. I never needed any of the drugs for pain. Now I am waiting for my first appointment after The surgery. I am resting and recovering my strength. I can walk and move around like I used to, but I am tired. I spend a lot of time on my back with the herniated disk, and my muscles need to get stronger. I know I will have to be mindful of my back from now on, but I am excited about my future. Dr. Gause is extremely professional and serious. I am very glad I trusted him with my life. I recommend him and his staff at The Spine Institute of Arizona without any reservations.
Dr. Gause has done 4 surgeries on my neck and back and we've had some pretty scary situations arise at times but I always felt safe with him taking care of me. I knew everything would turn out OK. Dr. Gause is the sweetest, kindest Dr. I have ever had and I feel he is the best Dr. in the country in his area of medicine. I love the fact that he has a sense of humor and I can usually get him to laugh about something. I love him dearly and would not hesitate at all to refer anyone to him. I also love Liz, his medical assistant. She is very professional and since I am a nurse, I can tell she knows what she is talking about. She always gets back to me in a timely manner, and always shows so much compassion. Sarah, the x-ray tech, is also so sweet and I KNOW that girl knows what she is doing. Also, we share a special love for dogs. The receptionist who always checks me in is the first impression of the office and she is an angel. She always remembers my name and makes me feel welcome. I probably wrote more than I should but Dr. Gause and his team are wonderful., gets back to me in a timely manner
I have had two different surgical procedures from Dr. Gause and they both turned out with excellent results. The service before and after both of these operations came with care and understanding thanks to his staff both in his office and at the hospital.
Dr. Gause and his MA Liz are amazing! They treat you as if you are their only patient. They really care about their patients, and they show it, which is rare these days. I don't hesitate to refer friends, family or my patients to him.
Dr. Gause reviewed the studies for my daughter, examined her and, in language we could easily digest, explained the problem. He then reviewed the treatment plan going forward. Finally, Dr. Gause provided an explanation for options, if conservative therapy failed to resolve the symptoms. Excellent physician and excellent bedside manner.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
