I've been going to Dr. Spence for years, and think he and his staff are all great. He obviously enjoys his work, and he always takes time to sit and chat with you (don't plan on a short visit!). Amy up front is always so sweet and helpful, and they're always easy to reach on the phone. I absolutely loved Allison when she was there! I've had a different hygienist each time since then, and they've all just been so-so. Would absolutely recommend him!
This dentist (Dr. Spence) says he takes the conservative approach, I was told by his staff worker. He has ruined my life. I'm trying to get sleep and recover from pain. Please get a second opinion, wish I had. So far I have had 3 failed root canals trying to save teeth. One was successful. Three pulled teeth, all his crowns replaced, 2 implants, six fillings he was watching, and 4 crowns. Approaching 20k in costs with good insurance. From all this work which is ongoing I now have very painful TMJ and gum problems. Where did he forget what he learned in dental school or does he just doesn't care? I started seeing him in 1999 till July of 2019, twice a year for cleanings. When I was having pain in tooth number 14. Dr. Spence couldn't see anything wrong with it and sent me to an endodontist. Since then, I have been trying to get back to normal. But it is a long sleepless and painful journey without an end in sight yet.
I am a multiple customer service business owner , and I can't say enough good things about Dr Spence and his whole staff. I have used his services for multiple years , and each time I forget how nervous I get prior to my visit. But how great I feel after I leave from the whole experience . I get vary anxious going to the dentist, but everyone in this office will make you feel comfortable and at home. Not only is Dr Spence funny, kind and understanding about his patients , he is also HONEST About what needs to be done. His bedside manner with patient is top notch... He will listen , joke around , and be very understanding of the anxiety that comes with a dental visit . Today I went in for what I was told by another dentist was a crown needed which is quite expensive and a longer procedure . Dr Spence explained the the tooth was not decayed and still healthy bit broken and that a new filling would be all that needed to fix my problem.. I appreciated the honesty, since the crown was easily double the cost if not more . He is a conservative dentist who will not push undue procedures on you. I respect that a lot, being that I also am in a people service industry. His wife who runs the front is awesome! She makes you feel so welcome and shes very kind and great to talk to.. It makes it a very comfortable Enviroment to be in.. His daughter also is there as an assistant, she's also great, understanding and can explain things in "real" terms for the normal person to understand . Overall I cannot say enough good things about the whole family and staff.. Clean, small, quaint and homely! Thankyou to you all for making my visit again today a happy one!!
Went to him for over 20 yrs. Started well. Wondered why I never really needed work in these late years... Endured a hygienist that was...insufferable with inane conversation- Presently had extensive periodontal work... Now I am told that the decay in one of my molars (I needed 5 crowns-THAT should speak for itself) is so extensive, I have to have it extracted and have an implant. I respect my current dentist and we review the X-Rays together- I am an RN so I do have medical experience. Yeah, nice guy and all. Just didn't get the job done. "Phoned it in" as a friend put it...
No one likes to go to the dentist, but Dr. Spence and his staff make it a pleasant experience. Everyone is competent, friendly and enjoyable to deal with. He never tries to suggest procedures you don't really need (as our past dental provider did). I wish I knew about Dr. Spence years ago. A really great and trustworthy practice!!!!! Please never retire!
Dr Robert Spence is gentle, caring and very knowledgeable. He has all the good qualities I can imagine for a dentist.
Good: Good dentist. Great hygienist. Bad: Hard to talk to someone by phone. Almost always have to leave message. When I was visiting a nearby doctor, I asked him where I could find a good dentist. He mentioned he and some of his employees went to Dr. Spence and that I should give him a try. The office is small, maybe 3 rooms total. Usually one person working the counter, one hygienist, an assistant and Dr. Spence. I'm always seen with very little waiting and then I'm directed into the middle room for my cleaning. The hygienist, Allison, is a gift from heaven. She takes the time to talk to me, and her cleaning skills are unmatched. She is so focused and extremely gentle with the cleaning instruments. A characteristic of a hygienist I have never found in my entire life until now. When the cleaning is done, I'm warmly greeted by Dr. Spence, who also takes time to talk with me. (Not just about my teeth, but about any interesting subject.) He then carefully has a look around my teeth and gums to make sure all is good. For me, it's usually a thumbs up, and an appointment 6 months from then. I can say this, if you are looking for a dentist you can trust, someone you know for certain is not just trying to make money off of dental work, this is your guy. Honest, knowledgable, gentle and smart. He even works with you if you don't have insurance. I lost my insurance for a while and it was still very affordable to visit for a cleaning and a filling (I had a tooth with chronic pain). So if you decide to drop in for a cleaning or whatever your needs are for a dentist, take a deep breath, relax and know that you will be well taken care of here. The only point of disagreement I have with the doctor is that I believe that mercury is toxic and has no business in our bodies (for fillings). The doctor believes that it's not a problem and does not recommend replacing amalgams for that sole reason. However, he does give the patient a choice if they wish to use composite instead of amalgam. I suggest doing your own research to decide what's best for you.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
