Dr. McMullen is the best optometrist I've ever been to in my 30 years of eye care. He's extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful. His "bedside manner" is warm and welcoming, like talking to a friend. He listens to your concerns, explains your options and helps you choose the best course of treatment based on your preferences. My family will continue to see him as long as he's practicing.

After researching many offices - I was looking for a long standing reputable optometrist that is very experienced. I am newly blind in my right eye from a NAAION event in December. I chose Dr. McMullen and made an appointment specifically with him. Here are the facts: 1. I arrived 15 minutes early as requested and processed my paperwork and insurance 2. Led to the room where I waited 45 minutes for the doctor. 3. It was not Dr. McMullen who I researched that came in. I asked to see Dr. McMullen and was told he is with another patient. The other doctor convinced me to start the exam and Dr. McMullen will come in a few minutes. That did not happen. The exam was over, and he handed me the prescription. I was told I would have to wait 2 additional hours to see him as he was with other patients. 4. Got my PD from the glasses helper and questioned why it would go from 58 for last 10 years to 62. Was told "it just happens". 5. The next day I went to order glasses and noticed there was a completely different prescription in my 'blind' eye. Called and was told it was a 'balance lens'. Um...balance lens would be the SAME not different. 6. Was told that the doctor does not take phone calls!! Absolutely absurd that I needed to make another appointment to ask questions about my prescription that was obviously wrong. 7. Office manager "asked/begged" (her words exactly) to make an exception. I provided the entire next day as being available. The doctor called me the same day. I could not get him on the phone ever again. 8. They sent over a completely new prescription without talking to me. Just took an eraser and removed the sphere and axis on my blind eye. 9. They called me 8 weeks later wanting my insurance information again, even though they took a photocopy at check in. 10. I explained that I filled the 2nd prescription with 2 pairs of glasses and my vision is worse with them on. I will need to get another eye exam and new lens for the glasses I just ordered. 11. I will not be submitting my insurance information to them, nor will I be paying this bill. 12. The office manager Fran was extremely curt, rude and raised her voice to me multiple times and tried to talk over me just laying out the facts. 13. This was not just a bad day - this is multiple phone calls and interactions with the staff ZERO STARS!!!

Genuinely awesome people at Salt River Eye Care. From setting an appointment online, receiving great follow-up from them for my insurance and reminders, to the care from Dr. McMullen and his wonderful team - the "Care" in their name applies to everything AND eyes. Google wants a photo, and this is the only one that I took.... ....and only because I was chuckling with dad joke humor that they "have an eye for art" ....on the wall. I've been seeing Dr. McMullen for 7 years now and he's the best optometrist I've ever had. He's very patient, thorough and most of all he really cares about his patients and his employees. I can't recommend him enough!

Made an appointment with Dr. McMullen based on glowing reviews. Appointment was two weeks out. When I arrived I was told oh, Dr. McMullen is not in today so you will be seeing another dr. Wish I had walked out. Other female dr was fine and very thorough but female optician lacked professionalism. Instead of seating me and marking on the glasses she stood in front of me, and when I picked glasses up she just handed them to me. Did not seat and make sure they were right. Seemed too busy and no attention to detail. Overall experience was like an assembly line and highly disappointed. Tried for weeks to wear glasses but are not right - To use them I have to tilt my head way back and get neck pain. They are in the drawer where they will sit til next year.

I just had the best experience with Fran! She is amazing at helping you find the frames for your face. She's always pleasant, and SO knowledgeable 10/10 highly recommend her. But to be fair, I've also followed her around the valley because of how great she is.

Dr. McMullen is by far the nicest, kindest, warmest doctor I’ve ever had. He handpicks his entire staff to be lovely to interact with, polite, patient, and thoughtful. The entire experience from start to finish is so enjoyable; so much so that I look forward to my annual eye exam because of it! I suggest everyone I know to come here, and so far everyone agrees! He always has great rebates for the contacts I order and I love how they offer a recycling service in partnership with my daily contacts to recycle the used plastic packaging as well!

Salt River Eye Care i highly recommended no one else I’ll ever go to again. Dr McMullen & Dr Jensen are hands down the best. 5 starts always..
