This doctor was not at all helpful to me. Abnormal lab results that required close monitoring and follow-up were often overlooked and never explained. Only through a second opinion did I learn what my labs meant and the necessity for dosage adjustments in my medications, but not before suffering severe side effects. I've been doing much better since I stopped seeing this doctor and switched to the doctors at Medical College of Virginia. They are very knowledgeable, competent and experienced at treating infectious diseases and I can't recommend them highly enough.

In prescribing medications known to cause adverse side effects, Dr. Andrea Gonzalez neglected to make the appropriate dosage adjustments at the appropriate times (in a patient requiring such dosage adjustments due to renal impairment) which very likely contributed to the worsening of symptoms (particularly neutropenia) and diminished quality of life. The patient died while under the care of Dr. Andrea Gonzalez. Medical records obtained after the patient's death revealed a marked elevation in the patient's serum creatinine (an indicator of impaired renal function) which neither the patient nor the patient's caregiver were ever informed of while under her care. Copies of the patient's medical records along with the medical opinions of two additional medical professionals are being provided to the VA Board of Medicine for review, the outcome of which is pending. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone under any circumstances based on my experience with her. She has been evasive and not completely honest or accurate in her written responses to my questions and refuses to acknowledge
