Richard Lewis's Online Review Report Card

I have been going to Dr Lewis for years. He follows me because I have type two diabetes. He was first to diagnose Fuchs Dystrophy and followed me until it was time to have a corneal transplant. He knowledgeable, friendly and patient. I recommend him highly.

My husband saw Dr. Lewis the day after his cataract surgery. Dr. Lewis was so rude and dismissive. My husband needed some questions answered before he decided if he wanted the other eye done. It was scheduled for 2 1/2 weeks later. We were wondering why his old glasses were still good at correcting his vision after this first surgery. We thought he would need new ones and asked him if that was correct. It didn't make any sense to us that they would. When we explained (we made several attempts) that we were concerned we wouldn't have enough time to get the new prescription glasses before a trip we were taking after the second surgery, Dr. Lewis said "considering how much the cruise is costing you, why would the cost of glasses be an issue"? Proving he wasn't even listening to us. How unprofessional can a doctor be? He kept saying that we had all the information we needed to decide if my husband wanted to do the surgery as scheduled or wait. It was obvious he was rushed, which is a another issue. My husband's appointment was at 8:20 but there was a sign on the door that said "due to staff function, we will be open at 8:45." I have had an early appointment before and the exact sign was on the door. Several people had appointment scheduled around the same time. What is up with that?!?

Although he is a good doctor, he is also a good manager, I have worked closely with him, he was a very hard-working and serious person, he did not leave any patient without a final diagnosis. Their further successes

I saw Dr. Lewis for follow-up after cataract surgery performed by a different doctor. Dr. Lewis was inexcusably inattentive and unprofessional. Eye surgery is a huge deal, and fears about the possibility of losing vision are completely understandable. After a quick exam, he was ready to walk out the door when I said, "I have a couple of questions." He immediately crossed his arms, looked indignant, and said, almost confrontationally, "How long is this going to take?" In addition to his rudeness and utter lack of compassion, I found out later that he recommended I use eye gel overnight for dry eye, but he didn't tell me. I would never see this doctor again and strongly urge people to avoid him. However, I highly recommend Dr. Brian Hunter, who's part of the same practice. He's terrific!!

My 92 year old mother went to Lewis for problems with glaucoma. He changed up her medication and she had a reaction to meds. Her eyes were red, dry, painful. She said she would rather go blind then keep taking them. When I looked up adverse affects of this medication she had all of them. Lewis kept her on it for 8 months. When we demanded to see a different Doctor in practice he listened to her, changed meds, and her vision has improved. Would never go to Lewis, incompetent

I rested my chin & forehead on equipment as instructed by him and both times abruptly pulled it away taking my chin with it. No warning, no apology. Do not care to see him again.

I was referred to Dr. Fishkind by my primary care physician who knows him personally with the highest of recommendations. Unfortunately as it turned out when I arrived my appointment had been switched to Dr. Lewis. Three months earlier I had had cataract surgery on one eye from a doctor in another office but that eye remained (and remains) swollen, reddish on the outside, distorted in shape, often irritated, and susceptible to tearing several times a day. The purposes of my appointment was to obtain an assessment as to whether the surgery had been performed properly, find out how to relieve the discomforting after-effects I've been experiencing since the surgery, and to inquire if I could scale back or eliminate the frequent use of eye drops which seems to exacerbate the symptoms I've described. Dr. Lewis was dismissive of all my complaints, seeming to regard them either as trivial at best or entirely a figment of my imagination (they emphatically are not), and not worthy of his professional analysis. After a brief eye exam he informed me that my eyesight was 20-25 "sufficient to qualify for a driver's license," but that information was already known to me and not relevant to my visit (I am 79 and have been driving since I was 18 yrs old with a near-perfect driving record). Dr. Lewis did recommend use of an ointment- for which he ridiculed for describing it as "like an ointment,"- but that has proven to make matters worse and I will not use it any longer. Needless to say I will never return to this office again to meet my eye care needs.

He was rude, dismissive, and never answered my questions. I left very frightened. Returned to my ophthalmologist out of state & found he was totally off with my diagnosis! I would never go back to him for treatment.
