List of Nelson James Owyoung Md's Reviews
Dr. Owyoung is a great Dr. but he is to hard to get ahold of. have called several time and left messages and no call back get voice mail 90% of the time.
Horrible doctor. I never write reviews and I’m typically very forgiving, but my experience with Dr Owyang has been one of the worst experiences I’ve had with any doctor. His school of graduation is one out of the Philippines in the early 80s . Severely out of touch with current medical understanding. Rushed appointments, lack of any evidence of attentiveness or compassion for his patients. Rushed me out of the door AS I was still speaking during my first visit. His apathy was literally palpable. No sense of curiosity for a doctor who’s supposed to be interested in his patients. Answer machine is never updated. Left 3 messages over 2 weeks, until k finally received a call. The list goes on. Please find another doctor.
I never write reviews, but I feel compelled to for this horrible excuse for a doctor. Horrible bedside manner, rushed appointment, inattentive. I have a difficult time believing any five star review for this doctor as he has t shown any ounce of compassion during my three visits. He gives doctors a bad name imo and I’ve dealt with plenty. His receptionist is nice though. But him? I urge you to choose another doctor if youre in any serious type of situation.
Horrible bedside manner. Walked me out as I was speaking during my first visit because the clock struck 5pm. I was led in at 4:45pm. Every office visit is 1-2 months apart no matter the type of visit. No one to pick up phone. Almost always leads to voicemail.
After waiting 2 whole months for an appointment I go to this neurologist after being referred here from another and I go in for the appointment. I asked if I could fill out any pertinent forms prior to showing up here and they told me "no" they do not email the basic information forms, which I have done for nearly every doctor I have seen in the past 5 years to save myself time sitting in the waiting room. This would also have allowed the office to acquire my medical records from my previous doctor so that the doctor could see what I was coming in for. Upon arriving I am waiting 30 minutes to be seen. I meet with the doctor and I tell him what condition I am being treated for in which he is absolutely clueless about it. I explained to him what my symptoms were and how I was being treated and he stated "ok well as long as you can provide me with a sleep study showing your condition, I can treat you for it. I would also like for you to get a secondary study to see where you are at today." I also explained to the doctor that the medication was beginning to wear off early in the day and requested 2 more daily so I could take a second dosage mid-day" He agreed as long as I could provide my sleep study. Now sleep studies are only required once in order to diagnose the issue. This guy wanted for me to be re-diagnosed before issuing the medication that I had been taking for the previous 2 years which would take another 6 months while I was out of medication. When I brought this to his attention, he flat out lied and said that my diagnosis required an annual study. His attitude was very abrasive, argumentative and downright disgusting from the minute he came in the room and saw that I was black. Additionally he had some words with his assistant who started off ok and then caught an attitude and suddenly after wasting my time waiting for an appointment with this unprofessional doctor and his staff - suddenly his assistant tells me that he does not treat people with my condition. I have never experienced racism from a doctor up until this point. I will never return here.
First visit and felt very welcomed by staff & doctor. Office is a little dated but clean. Covid guidelines being followed in the office. Doctor very attentive and very detailed in examining.
Very attentive and professional learned alot. His staff is very professional
To be honest, I would not give this MD any stars if that was an option! Terrible experience with this MD in Garfield hospital. He barely looked at his patient in Garfield Medical Center. The only questions he asked about the patient were: "Why is she sleeping so much? Who is her DPOA agent? Do you have a place to send her?" He's the MD! What concern or care did he exhibit for his patient? He insisted on inserting a gastric feeding tube against the DPOA instructions of the patient and yelled at the DPOA agents: "you are going to make her starve to death?"
My family member had a stroke and Dr. Owyoung has been extremely unhelpful, and frankly a little rude, while he has been in the hospital. He does not explain what's going on to us very well, he just pops in and out for a few seconds to offer some negative thoughts and leaves and we don't see him again for a few days. He does not offer a plan whatsoever to help my family get better. He has not tried to work with my sick family member at all, just keeping his distance when he stops by. He's been very negative throughout my family member's stay in the hospital and literally silenced me when I was trying to provide my family's observations while we have stayed with my uncle 24/7, preferring to listen to the hospital staff who barely do anything to help. To say the experience has been poor is an understatement.
I am not sure why the other person gave one star to this doctor. A very attentive and communicative doctor , after complaining about migraines for long time , I saw doctor Nelson and he listened to all my concern and explain all the steps he wants to take to treat me, head CT scan and sleep study recommended revealed I was suffering from sleep apnea thank you doctor you had done the best to better assist me , today I feel a new person away from migraines

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
