Sam Chia's Online Review Report Card

I saw this doctor for years as I, as a minority, was new in the healthcare system and new to Los Angeles. I was overwhelmed, dealing with severe symptoms, and very vulnerable during these early years that I moved to LA. This doctor was consistently disrespectful, intimidating, hurtful in his treatment of me, and unapprochable through the years from our first meeting. Due to my interactions with him I avoided obtaining further medical treatment, though I had access to it, as I felt very intimidated and afraid to see a doctor from my experience with Dr. Chia. During two visits he yelled at me and lost his temper due to me asking questions. He often interrupted me and communicated through passive aggressive gestures. His staff is very passive aggressive, unkind, and unapproachable as well. I heard others in the waiting room (a little girl in particular) saying the staff were "mean". It was not only me who experienced this from Dr. Chia and his office. Finally, after years of poor treatment, I stood up for myself to the intimidating, passive aggressive behavior of Dr. Sam Chia, and advocated for myself after years of disrespectful, unprofessional, and hurtful treatment by him (including his yelling at me on 2 occasions alone in his office with him in response to my calmly asking him questions). I stood advocated for myself as a minority, by asking him in a matter of factly way what patients can expect from medical provides, what the standard of care is, what my rights as a patient to obtain ethical treatment is, whether I might expect (or not) to be treated with respect during invasive medical treatments or assessments, and the ethical code by which health care clinicians abide. I asked him these questions to educate myself and to empower myself as a patient in the health care system. This question was offensive to him and he responded after this discussion stating my having a lack of "respect and congeniality" with him and that I was "contentious" with him. This is coming from a doctor who does not greet nor make eye contact with patients, has very poor communication, poor instruction, and absolutely no respect for his patients. Once he told me I may not be able to have children and while discussing this he laughed while discussing the biological processes that might be going on in my body. I went home crying and avoided medical assessment for this issue for two years. My experience with Dr. Sam Chia was overall a very upsetting traumatic experience in the health care system. This ending response from Dr. Chia (where he lied about me being "distrespectful" etc to him, after I experienced years of disrespect and emotional hurtful treatment from him and his staff) is a complete bold faced lie, totally dishonest, very upsetting and traumatic, unethical, and their attempt to gaslight a patient with whom they were unprofessional with (for years). I had many opportunities through Dr. Chia to obtain further treatment and assessments but did not obtain them for years because I became terrified from doctors due to my experience with Dr. Chia. Avoid at all costs. Also he lied about performing evaluations on me (checking X body parts) which never happened. He wrote in reports that he did these things but he did not. Overall this is the worst, most impersonal, inhumane scary doctor one can see.

Dr. Sam Chia treated me poorly, yelled (while I was calm), disrespected & belittled me when discussing traumatic medical issue. Showed me no empathy, human decency or respect. Lied several times. He wrote in notes he checked extremities (when he did not) & that I refused to have a body part checked (he never asked). Also lied after I advocated for myself. He said I didnt show "mutual respect" (on the contrary I showed him respect for yrs while he showed me none). He disrespected me, then lied that I disrespected him. Poor diagnostic skills (Lab result outside normal; he said "doesnt matter". Elevated score & relevant symptms. But he intimidated & interrupted so=no discuss). Very distressing. Resulted in me avoiding Drs & referrals. I often left office shaking or crying without clarity on medcal issues. His office makes me feel distressed & my heart race. I was unable to obtain medical treatment for years as I became afraid of doctors. Avoid. Worst doctor ever. A nightmare.

Disrespected, humiliated, belittled, intimidated and overall treated me without any respect or dignity. Showed no empathy or concern for my medical symptoms or issues. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Sam Chia for years. I am a minority & was new to the healthcare system and Los Angeles when I started seeing him. For years Dr. Sam Chia intimidated, disrespected, humiliated, & treated me with excessively unethical behavior. Some of my experiences w him: 1. He laughed at, belittled, & humiliated me while discussing a potentially life altering medical condition I may have (he laughed and made fun of my body while discussing destructive biological processes that might be occurring in me). This resulted in my leaving the office in tears, shaking, & then avoiding further assessment of this medical issue for two years (even though I had access to through my insurance). 2. He yelled at me on 2 occasions in response to me calmly asking clarifying questions about my test results & health. This experience silenced me from obtaining important information, and was intimidating & scary (as I was alone in the room w him). A few visits later I told him that yelling at me during the previous visit was unprofessional and unethical, to which he said he would "take that into consideration". Recently I stood up for myself to him and his staff (who also were very impersonal, passive aggressive and unapproachable) by advocating for myself and asking (in a calm manner) what my rights are as a patient while obtaining medical treatment. In response to these questions and my standing up for myself as a vulnerable minority woman, Dr. Chia told me that I was not providing him "respect and congeniality" and that I was being "contentious" with him, which is a bold faced lie. (It was them who disrespected and humiliated me for years.) I stood up for myself & spoke up, and in response he lied and pointed the finger at me that I'm the problem. This is manipulative and abusive. 3. On every visit he was rude, interrupted me, showed no care nor concern, was impersonal and avoidant (wouldn't even look at me or check my body when it was relevant to issue), bullying, passive aggressive, communicated poorly & in an intimidating controlling fashion, and disrespected me, no matter how calm or nice I was. 4. This intimidation and inhumane treatment resulted in my avoiding much medical treatment for over 6 years (even though I had access to it) because I was left terrified of doctors & the health care system from the abuse I received by Dr Chia and his office. I really suggest finding a reputable doctor who abides by ethical codes, has a high standard of patient care, and respects his patients. Dr. Sam Chia has no respect for his patients, does not care about their medical issues, looks down on them, and it compromised the medical treatment I received. He has been disrespectful, egotistic, narcissistic, self centered, uncourteous, impersonal, dismissive, controlling, rude, unprofessional, & made me feel uncomfortable & unsafe (as he consistently intimidated & was moody & at times emotionally erratic and scary). Please note: he also provided me inaccurate medical information [when I questioned him to clarify (because what he said was inaccurate), he became upset and yelled (to intimidate me to stop asking questions, I assume)].Other reviews mentioned Dr. Chia's treatment of patients borders on abuse. I definitely felt that. The whole experience with him was emotionally abusive, hurtful & stopped me from continuing medical, vision, and dental attention for years, because of the intimidation and abuse I experienced from Dr. Sam Chia. The experience was emotionally traumatic and damaging.I will share more of my story later. Women, minorities, & vulnerable patients: respect yourself & never let a doctor treat you disrespectfully just because they wear a white lab coat, are educated, or have a position that they feel holds authority. Using a position of authority to mistreat patients is indicative of a coward, not a doctor, or someone with the objectivity to be a good doctor. Replace doctors who treat you poorly & in ways that are painful immediately!! Stand up for yourself & your rights. Always advocate for yourself. Especially to inhumane doctors, medical tyranny, and powerful unjust men. Doing this, even in a calm manner, will upset them & may bring them to respond by lying about & demonizing you further. Stand up, speak up, and advocate for yourself regardless. Also please note: though I saw Dr. Sam Chia for years he generally did not touch or look at me, except on maybe 2 occasions. When I saw him for serious medical issue that changed my quality of life, his response was (in yelling tone) "Well, what do you want me to do!??" & overall he thought the issue did not matter. To this day I have a medical issue that has not been attended to & it has changed my life and been debilitating. Get another doctor!!!! May add more later. I'll leave it here for now. This treatment I received was completely unacceptable and shameful to the field of medicine.

Dr. Chia actually engages with me as a patient so that I understand my health issues.

The doctor was very dismissive of the concerns that I shared with him in our consultation. He was condescending to some extent as well. He had pretty much one answer for all of my issues - “age”. I guess it is normal for an active 31 year old with no pre-existing medical conditions to start experiencing various ailments.

Honestly the BEST doctor you can ever ask for. I've seen Dr Chia for many many many years. He is caring, honest, thoughtful and is genuine to do what's best for his patients. Consider yourself lucky if he's able to take you in as a patient. I myself and my family (including my elderly in laws) feel so blessed he's been our doctor all these years. I can list a handful of examples of why he's the BEST family doctor in southern CA, but honestly it's also a feeling from my heart from all these years of under his care. I wish more doctors are like Dr Chia (or just half or Dr Chia). We are incredibly blessed to call him our doctor!

I went in for a little less than a half hour consultation with Dr. Chia. I hadn't been to a doctor in about a decade prior to and I had a number of health concerns on my mind. Dr. Chia was very dismissive of my concerns and quite condescending as well. Pretty much everything was chalked up to "age". I was 31 at the time living an active lifestyle... I guess he is the expert and I the idiot. Anyhow, our interaction was void of any sympathy, concern or respect.

I've been going to Dr. Chia for over 10 years. He is very careful with his suggestions and always tells me the complete scenarios before prescriptions. He doesn't strike up general conversations with me (even after 10 years) but when it comes to explaining medicines, he takes as much time as necessary. Once when I asked for headache medicine suggestions, he took out a skull and diagrams and took 20+ minutes to education me. I did not need medicine in his opinion. After I understood his reasoning, I altered some daily routines, and again he was right.He follows up by emails if I skip my regular checkups. And what I really appreciate is that without me asking, he compares medicine prices against my insurance to make sure I get the best choices at best rates. Last month I needed a specialist, he was firm on one recommendation which seemed remote at the time. So I did much research (trust but verify, always). Surprisingly, other specialists finally arrived to the same conclusion after their researches as well. This tells me Dr. Chia has been pretty much updated on the newest medical information at least in my needs. I'm so glad he is my primary doctor and recommend anyone to explore into taking him on as yours as well.

Excellent physician. Specializes in diagnostics and patient care for all ages. Dr. Chia works tirelessly to make hospital visits at all hours. Insuring the safety and well being of patients. Highly regarded by other physicians as well. Trustworthy & Honorable.
