I have been going to Dr. McLaughlin for over ten years. He is compassionate, competent and very likeable. I highly recommend him. Diane Hira Rose
Dr. McLaughlin is our primary care doctor. His number is no longer disconnected. Updating my message.
Our family loves Dr. Ed Mclaughlin! He was referred to me in 2003 when I first moved to Berkeley and I've been a patient ever since. I can call him anytime I have questions or concerns for my daughter or myself and he always fits me in. I appreciate the care he's given me through the years. I also like his new location in Emeryville with convenient parking. Thank you Dr. Ed!
Dr. McLaughlin has been our family doctor for 25 years. He is a great doctor and a really nice man. I call him all the time for advice. I just went to his new location and its very convenient. Thank you Dr. McLaughlin!
Dr. McLaughlin is NOT retired, He did have some phone issues for a little over a month in July 2019, but all is fixed and he is still seeing patients. For those who are or were patients, please feel free to contact his office at 5108487533 to schedule an appointment. Not sure why the health plan would say he is retired.
What in the world?? My Mom has been going to Dr. McLauglin for YEARS. His number is disconnected. I did some research and called Brown and Toland Physicians to find out what was happening and apparently, he retired a month ago. No notification whatsoever received. BIZZARE!
Like the other reviewers I have been going to Dr. McLaughlin for over 20 years but as of today I will have to find a new doctor. It is not the medical care I have an issue with it is the administrators. They are rude, dismissive and offensive. The last three times I have called to get an appointment for ANY doctor in the practice there has been a 24 week waiting period with the canned response of youll have to go to urgent care. Ive asked to be out in a cancellation list only to be told that there are already too many people on the list. Ive asked how I should address my medical issue if I cant see the doctor and Ive been told go to urgent care. I understand back log and I even understand not getting in to see my primary physician. But not being able to see ANYONE in the practice for 4 weeks is ridiculous. I guess its like a health club take as many customers and hope they dont show up. And if they do all need to attention send them somewhere else. Clearly this wont impact the practice but as a potential new patient dont waste your time.
Been seeing Dr. McLaughlin for 26 years now. OK, the overall practice/doctor group/office is not what it once was (the premier general medical practice in Berkeley), but Dr. McLaughlin still does a fine job. Sometimes hard to get an appointment, as I think he is only part time now days. I saw one of the NPs and she was fine too. Parking can be an issue at this location, as the parking lot is way undersized for the businesses it serves. But there is a medical imaging place I like off the same lot, very convenient to just walk across the way to get xrays. Dr. McLaughlin actually cares about his patients, and listens well too.
I had to switch to this group because Dr. Wharton, my OBGYN (who I really would love to designate as my PCP but my insurance wont let me) provides most of my health care needs however he no longer accepts my HMO. I had to randomly choose this group based on Yelp reviews. I need to have Alta Bates Medical Group on my insurance card in order for me to see Dr. Wharton which is my top priority. Unfortunately for me, I got sick and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Because I ended up getting very sick on a Saturday, I went to urgent care, they gave me an antibiotic and told me to follow up with my doctor. When I called this practice I was connected to the nurse whose first question was how did you even get into this practice, Dr McLaughlin is not accepting new patients OK. I told her my insurance has assigned me to him. Her response was fine, he cant see you for two months, we have appointments in September. Gee, really crappy health care provider, lucky for you I am a nurse and know how to deal with this pneumonia, I feel sorry and scared for the next patient who cant.
Receptionists incredibly rude and not helpful. All I needed was a TB Test, and was previously informed that they accept walking on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays. So Im assuming that means all day. I called at 9:05am, office opened at 9am Ashley was short with me and incredibly unapologetic. Informed me that walk in hours were from 8:309, so I missed it. These people are rude and insulting. I got transferred 3 times and all anyone could say was too bad!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
