List of Gordon Tang's Reviews
I had ben experiencing pain from sciatica from 2011 forward. I received spinal cortisone treatments over the following years. These treatments alleviated the discomfort in my calves. As time passed, however, the effectiveness of the shots diminished; initially working for 3 years, the beneficial effect lasted less than a year by 2022. I had seen Dr. Tang around 2019 and he recommended a laminectomy. I did not follow his advice. By the Fall of 2022, the discomfort had increased and only could walk a few blocks before stopping and stretching. Meanwhile, my spinal canal had narrowed significantly and its negative effects had spread as well. An early December 2022 visit was followed by a laminectomy at L-4 and L-3 later that month. Within a week I was walking with my pup and without discomfort several miles a day. My post-op recovery was excellent; I took only Tylenol for several days. I could not recommend Dr. Tang more highly. Indeed, I have recommended the good doctor to several friends. I also commend Jessie and the entire staff.
Dr. Tang performed neck surgery several years ago. The experience was top notch. I had been in pain with restricted movement for a year following a car accident and a couple other doctors/modalities/therapy etc. He told me after being in pain for so long after my car accident healing from surgery would take a couple months. After a week I felt great. Never had an issue again. It’s been 12 years. Highly recommend Dr. G. Tang.
Hello my name is Travis Simon I am 43 years old I just recently had spinal cord surgery by this doctor before I had the surgery I was in 24 seven agony pain my surgery went successful 100% and I feel no pain at all thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I’m one weekend to recovery and I feel a lot stronger more healthier and I’m more focused and now I’m just waiting on rehabilitation to start this doctor from start to finish did everything he said he was going to do and thank you
Thank you Dr. Tang and your team. Beginning January 2019 I was unable to walk more than a few hundred yards without having to sit with pain reaching 7 out of 10. I also could not sleep without pills. Nights were miserable. But I could ride my bike and riding helped lower the pain level. Your diagnostic was: Lumbar spinal stenosis with lumbar radiculopathy."MRI of the lumbar spine demonstrates degenerative disc disease and foraminal narrowing particularly at L4-5 and L5-S1. It is more severe at L5-S1." You operated my back on 07/08/2019 at 08:30:00 am. Pain went away gradually and completely six weeks after the operation. Apart for a short relapse provoked by my lifting a boat (Sun Fish) a year later that went away after a few weeks, I have been healthy and doing very well ever since without taking any pain killer, whether hydrocodone or ibuprofen. I do not know how to thank you and your team for having prolong a great quality of life. I keep on doing the exercises that you recommended. Sure my back is stiff in the morning, and I sometimes develop a low-level pain under my right buttock when I drive my car for an hour. But I am now 76 and in much better shape than any of my riding friends: they all use electric bikes, but I do not. And I walk on Sierra trails without any problem. Bernard Pech
Dr. Tang's perform spinal fusion on me December 2020. Since then the pain has grown significantly worse than before the procedure and the fusion is blocking Epidural's/steroids from reaching their target. Since the procedure communication with him has been more than difficult. Bottom line is I wish I had never chosen to have this procedure done.
After years of attempts at alternative solutions I decided to consider surgery and Dt. Tang quickly diagnosed a bone protrusion causing loss of strength and severe numbness in the lower legs making it almost impossible to walk. I wish I had seen him sooner.
I got spinal decompression surgery from Dr. Tang and it was the best decision I've ever made. I was super skeptical and anti surgery for over 3 years with my back pain. However after chronic back pain and sciatic pain for 3 years, receiving injections every 3 months I had to make the decision to get surgery. I had a herniated disc in my L5 disc and it was compressing my S1 nerve causing me to have sciatica. I saw four different orthopedic surgeons and every one of them wanted to do intense back surgery. So I decided to look into a neurosurgeon and that's when I found Dr. Tang. I like dr. Tang a lot because even though I needed back surgery he tried to solve the issues without going to surgery surgery was his last option. After months and months of trying different things unfortunately I ended up having to get back surgery. The surgery only lasted 45 minutes and he told me I would be back on my feet in three days and fully recovered within about four weeks. I was back on my feet doing chores around the house in three days and back to work in 6 days. I had a very fast recovery time and I feel a thousand times better since I've done the surgery. There is nice I couldn't sleep because of how painful it was and I don't regret getting the surgery at all. The only regret I have is not getting the surgery years ago. I'm not recommending anybody to get surgery but what I am recommending is go and see Dr. Tang and if you end up getting surgery or needing to get surgery I would strongly advise you to look into potentially getting your surgery done by Dr. Tang. Number one reason why is because he didn't have to cut my muscle tissue to get to my disc where every orthopedic surgeon told me they would have to cut my muscle. This dramatically decreased my recovery time since the muscle didn't have to heal from being cut. Again I am not recommending anybody to get surgery right away, try different things and see different types of doctors. My only recommendation would be if you have no other option to get back surgery I would recommend looking into just speaking or seeing Dr. Tang. Also he is very difficult to book and could take months to see him, so I would try to schedule something with him as quick as you can because it may take you a few months to see him! Good luck with your back and I hope this helps!!
I have been a patient of Dr Tang since 2018. I am deeply dissatisfied with the care I received. Dr Tang has nearly zero direct communication with patients . No online portal or email. There is no way to call him, patients have to leave messages with office staff who pass them to him. After a year of tests, Dr Tang admitted he could not diagnose my shoulder pinched nerve pain. He referred me to renowned spine specialist Dean Chou at UCSF Medical Center. Dr Chou successfully diagnosed a cervical disc as the problem. Now Dr Tang questions the diagnosis even though he has no alternate one or ideas of his own to offer! I find this incredible and really awful. I am searching for a new neurosurgeon, have no confidence in him now.
Great surgeon. In 2019, he successfully operated on my lower spine to cure a very painful sciatica on my right leg that prevented me from walking. (stenosis). I was 73. I highly recommend him.
My experience with my appointment with Dr. Tang was extremely disappointing. He gave me a total of 4 minutes of his time. I was left with so much confusion, more questions and honestly did not expect this outcome from this Dr. who was highly recommended.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
