Shine-Nee Teng's Online Review Report Card

Hands down the rudest doctor youll ever meet. She refuses to uses modern technology like email so she couldnt read any of my medical records sent by other providers. She called me twice to yell at me while I was in bed with a fever. And refuses to provide a doctors note to my employer while I experience symptoms of covid. She also wont see you at all if you are contagious and doesnt have enough common sense to use virtual appointments. Go to someone else. You will regret ever seeing her.

I saw many negative comments about Doctor Teng before going to see her, and it turns out the comments are right. She does not know what respect is at all. How offensive she is.

Ive never seen any doctor or anyone in the US who is as offensive and rude as Dr Teng. Is it just because I come from China Mainland? I explained to her many times that my annual wellness check is 100% covered in my insurance, which means I dont need to pay anything. But she was so angry and refused to believe it! Se pointed at me with her finger, shouting out loud in her office asking her two assistants: Can you believe this?! She doesnt want to pay for anything! Can you believe this!? I never see anyone like you in my whole life. And then she shouted to me in Mandarin:This is America, not your China mainland. If you want to see cheap doctors go back to your country! I was utterly shocked and embarrassed. At that time I was not familiar with the medical insurance system in the US, plus her shouting makes me so scared, so I submitted to her and paid $100 for her diagnosis before running out of her office.  Now, 7 months later, Dr. Teng still hasnt sent my claim to my insurance company. I need to call my insurance to request a claim AND a refund from her. What a great doctor. That was my first time seeing a doctor in the US. I was so diffident about my medical vocabulary, so I just wanted to find someone who understands Mandarin to save me from embarrassment. I chose her as my primary doctor only because she is Taiwanese so she understands Chinese. Ironically, I had the most embarrassing and traumatized experience in my whole life from this Chinese speaking doctor. I wouldnt say she is a racist, but at least she is full of stereotype and prejudice and she is so offensive and impatient to her nonAmerican patient.

Spoke to Dr. herself and was extremely helpful and informative. I wasnt able to see her for various reasons but would definitely recommend her if your insurance covers her services and shes located conveniently to you

I was excited to feel that I had finally found a good doctor.  Dr. Teng came very highly recommended, but the experience was probably one of the worst medical visits I ever encountered.  It was my first visit and she did all the talking, stating first off that my Covered California insurance is horrible insurance because they do not pay and that many doctors will not take it. I had written a list of medications that I have been prescribed and her first step was to tell me she would not prescribe several of them, ie Omeprazole (Prilosec) REALLY!!!  No instead she began writing out a list of 68 SPECIALIST, Endocrinologist, Rheumatologists, spine specialists, and the list goes on and on.   She did all the talking, I could barely get a word in and argued with everything I said.  The practice seems very disorganized and she was all over the place jumping back and forth from subject to subject and back again.  At one point, she told me point blank, You are very hard. Too much to deal with to start from the beginning.  I dont have time to sit here with you all morning.  I have other patients.  If that was not a clear message that she did not want to take me as a patient the multiple referrals to specialists were as well. The majority of the twohour encounter was Dr. Teng telling me all the things she would not do than what she would.  I had to force her to look at a growth that has come up on my shoulder, with concern that it could be skin cancer, she instantly dismissed it and told me that getting older means your skin thickens.  She was very forceful to try to give me pills for shingles and I do not have shingles.Her constant referral to flyers and photocopied images that looked like they were from a 1950s medical book that were pulled from drawers filled with papers just thrown in with no order or organization was frightening!  This is not a fit for me at all and I canceled the followup appointment and threw all the NEW and REVISED prescriptions and request for blood work in the shredder and will continue to seek professional medical care.  I did get a flu shot and that is the only positive accomplishment from this first and last visit to Dr. Teng.This was a frightening experience!This review was not written with the intent to hurt Dr. Teng or her practice, but to inform her what her prospective new patients are experiencing.  I hope that it aids her in making the changes necessary to correct these issues and attract the patients that fit best for her.

This doctor will defend herself for sure I didnt refuse treatment, I needed prescription refill on top of my current symptoms as well, but she doesnt listen because she talks too much and caught on the phone doing scheduling and seeing a patient at the same time. Very incompetent  and unprofessional. And Im not visiting here, Im working here for travel. Again, dont ever waste your time and money going to her! Its the doctors obligation to call for for pre authorization for mediation not mine! She refused coz she doesnt have a secretary and shes caught up on a lot of things to do. Doing everything by herself.

Ive been going to Dr Teng for about 3 years. I really appreciate that she is independent and not affiliated with Sutter East Bay. I always have billing issues with Sutter and am rushed with them. I never feel rushed and she takes time with me. She also is the only doctor to detect a heart murmur when other doctors overlooked it. She knows when a referral is needed and I believe she cares about the overall body. She also pushes mental health as being important. This is huge to me because she knows the affect of stress on the body and isnt just pushing medications. I will continue to go to her because she is one of the most thorough doctors I have met. My only feedback is to double check handwriting on labs because sometimes Labcorp will mistaken her cursive Z for a 3 and this can cause billing issues. A simple request for Labcorp to clarify the code will fix the issue though.

Worst doctor Firstly, shes the secretary and the doctor. Answers the phone and schedules appointment while checking on me. Asked for a prescription refill and just says I cant do that, Im very busy I cant call your insurance for authorization just do it the old way. Like no! I need the medication So, she saw the disappointment in my face so she refunded my payment coz first of all she asked for the payment before being seen. Then gave cash one dollar short and gave me 2 stamps instead! Thats messed up! So dont ever go waste your time going to her clinic. Go to younger doctors who are open and has a secretary.

I really liked Dr. Teng even though shes pretty brusk and definitely doesnt try to be reassuring or put things lightly. I appreciated that I was going to get all the facts and that she knew what she was doing. Recently though I was trying to get a referall from her and the other office wasnt receiving it so after two back and forths of trying to figure out what was going on she actually yelled at me over the phone saying I dont care if they havent received it. We are busy here. Stop calling about this. It is not only completely inappropriate for a doctor to yell at a patient, but she was also denying me the care I was trying to receive. With an HMO, I need referrals to get care so the fact that she gave up on this issue negatively impacted me and I will be finding a new primary care doctor.

Dr. Teng goes through your paperwork and general health information very quickly, then gets down to whatever is bothering you. She is not quick to push the hard drugs. I went in because of an indigestion issue, and instead of putting me on Prilosec right away she told me to use less serious meds, like pepsin. Yes, she is talkative, but I enjoy her conversations, because generally going to the doctors office isnt the best experience.
