Terri Dunn's Online Review Report Card

While I have been a patient of Dr. Dunn's in the past and respect her as a physician, I have been trying to get an appointment with her since the first of January and can't seem to get any response from Dr. Dunn's office.  If they cannot take on return patients,  then the office staff needs to do a much better job of communicating with patients that have been loyal to this practice from for years past.  It is unfortunate,  but I will be looking for a new dermatologist.

"I have found my new favorite office! I just moved to Colorado and searched for gynecologists in my area. They were able to get me in sooner than another office I called, and luckily they had a cancellation and called me to offer it to me! I don't think any office has done that. I'll ask if any cancellations come up to call me and they actually did! The only thing I would recommend is printing the paperwork before your visit because it's quite long. Or show up early to fill it out. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Dr. Dunn has a great attitude and she was unlike any doctor I've ever had! You can tell she loves her job and cares! My results were called to me in a very timely manner, and I left a voicemail about something I forgot to ask, and got a call back the same night. I hope she has no future plans of retiring!"

I have always had an excellent experience here. Dr Dunn is caring and listens. My husband sees the NP and loves her too!  I feel like the care here is professional and well done.

Painful biopsy's and many recordings about crows feet and wrinkles. I could care less about crows feet or wrinkles when facing melanoma.

When I visited this office, I was only seen by Dr. Dunn's Physician's Assistant. This PA misdiagnosed me and made me undergo several painful procedures. Never once was I able to see Dr. Dunn herself, even though I had asked several times. Their pathologist was also somehow unable to diagnose my lesion correctly and for whatever reason, only echo'd the PA's clinical interpretation. I finally sought a second opinion and they were able to diagnose my lesion the moment they entered the room. Don't settle for a PA. Make sure a doctor lays eyes on your skin or it's a waste of a trip and money. I'm annoyed that this practice made it so difficult to see the physician.

I'm writing this review about 2 years after Dr. Dunn removed a squamous cell skin cancer (which is not all that dangerous) from my upper chest area. I have had about 7 of these skin cancer types removed by other dermatologists or PAs and the scar left by Dr. Dunn's incision looked worse than all of the others. It wasn't horrible but it was raised and didn't look as good as I expected compared to past experiences. I don't know if the stitch that Dr. Dunn uses is what caused the different results or what. Unfortunately, it is at the center of my neck line / upper chest area so that I feel self-conscious about it when I wear v-neck or semi-low-cut tops. I waited almost 2 years to see if it would flatten out but it didn't. I also tried the silicone patches which they say can help sometimes. Recently, I changed insurance plans so I also had to see a new dermatologist. I told her how I've had to buy a new wardrobe to cover up my neckline. The new dermatologist gave me a steroid injection which helps to flatten scars. The injection did flatten it a little but it also caused red blood vessels to appear all around that area. Now it looks even more noticeable. The only way to (hopefully) get rid of the redness, is to get laser treatments which cost over $200 per treatment. I will probably need 4-6 treatments and insurance will not cover laser VBEAM because it is considered cosmetic.  The saga continues.

I don't have any big issues with this office. However, few times they have loss my PCP referral or insurance authorization for a procedures.So, you have to be proactive.

I saw Dr. Dunn for regular checkups for a few years and was happy with her care. Last year, I had a bad reaction to a cream prescribed for a rash and was initially really unhappy with how the situation was handled. I give Dr. Dunn a lot of credit for how she handled my frustration. She actually called me twice with the intention of sorting things out, which we eventually did.I've encountered doctors who are kind, caring and listen, and I've encountered those who don't listen at all. I've found it best to just leave the care of the ones who don't listen. Dr. Dunn was always kind and caring and I was impressed by her willingness to really hear the source of my frustration, get it, and actually change her mind. We had a lively exchange and I was very pleased by the outcome.

I saw Dr. Dunn (or rather, her PA) a few times for skin exams. I have a family history history of melanoma and very fair skin. She was pleasant to interact with and I am thankful that Dr. Dunn's PA biopsied a mole on my arm that I thought looked suspicious. It was indeed melanoma in situ. At that point, the responsible thing to do (though I didn't know it at the time) would have been to refer me to a trained dermatologic surgeon to perform the melanoma surgery. Instead, Dr Dunn did it herself and I was left with a long painful healing process and an awful scar. Unfortunately, I know how my melanoma should have been dealt with because a year later I had another one (had different insurance and was going to a new dermatologist at that point). He sent me to UCSF to a dermatologic surgeon who performed the same surgical protocol for melanoma excision with very different results-- almost no pain, quick healing, and a very minimal scar. She used internal stitches and you can hardly see a faint line, whereas the surgery Dr Dunn performed left a large scar with individual stitch marks up and down the length of it.I wish I had known this before I let Dr Dunn perform the surgery herself. I now have an awful scar that I have to look at every time I wear short sleeves.Advocate for yourself and steer clear if you need any type of surgery. There are highly trained dermatologic surgeons out there who will give you a much better outcome.

Dr. Dunn is amazing! She was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. She thoroughly educated me on sun screen and offered the best sun screen that I have ever tried and mixes with my skin type. She never made me feel rushed which I loved. She also gave me some coupons for the medications she prescribed which came in handy. For any future skin issues I would visit her again!
