White Magnolia is a Berkeley treasure! John and the other instructors are exceptional Tai Chi masters and incredibly supportive as I learn forms. My classmates are great. I love practicing Tai Chi outdoors here!

Fantastic instruction, friendly vibe. They do a great job including people with different skill levels and physical abilities. I have tried a lot over the years, and I think Tai-Chi is really good at integrating the mind/body connection into daily life. My posture has been improving drastically in my year and a half with Patrick and the other teachers at White Magnolia.

I'm new to White Magnolia and new to Tai Chi & Chi Kung; I've come in at the beginning level. I have back problems, which concerned me, but John and Patrick (the instructors with whom I've worked) have been generous in suggesting ways to do the movements, even in a chair, which helps a lot. I am finding that my balance is improving, and I've been able to gain many other things from this experience, which are subtle but noticeable.

I’ve done 5 sessions with John so far to address some chronic arm pain from laptop and phone use. John has been thorough, attentive and so effective at identifying the root cause of my pain and I’ve been relieved to experience painless days for the first time in years! Highly recommend this spot if you are looking for great patient care and education on pain and maintenance.

I just moved to Oakland and was in search of a new acupuncturist. My previous acupuncturist I had been seeing for 5+ years and I was hopefully I would find someone as good. I have succeeded! John Luna is very thorough and skilled. I have seen much improvement over the past several weeks. I respect his bedside manner and his willingness to pay close attention to my body. 10/10! Wouldn’t think of going anywhere else.

As a competitive Olympic lifter, I was suffering from an old shoulder (rotator cuff) injury of 6 years that never went away. I visited doctors, physical therapies, chiropractors and while they were able to treat me somewhat, the pain never really went away and I was struggling in my workouts. It wasn’t until I met John and received his sports acupuncture that my rotator cuff started to slowly heal. I was able to rotate and have greater range of mobility. It definitely was a slow and steady journey, but the sports acupuncture finally started the healing process for me. After a few months of consistent treatment (being consistent is key here!!), I was able to get back to what I love doing which is competitive Olympic lifting. John also offers “pre-performance” sports acupuncture where he targets activations of specific muscles that you would be using prior to your competition. And hey…it made me hit some personal best lifts and made me rank 22nd in the nation!!!! Thank you John, I’m forever grateful.

I was feeling extremely frustrated and hopeless about how to get better. After two failed cortisone shots and on the verge of getting surgery, I decided to give acupuncture a try for the first time. It took several months, but I am now almost completely pain free and back to all my usual functioning. John is the utmost professional: full of information and willing to answer any and all questions, but also very kind and comforting. I highly recommend White Magnolia!
