List of Philomena Mcandrew's Reviews
Dr. McAndrew is a very caring doctor and takes as much time as you need.
I just read another review from Nicole B and my family had the same experience with Dr Mcandrew. She never gave our family any other option for palliative care. She took on the responsibility of treating our mother who had advanced cancer and not once was she honest with our mom or us about her true outcome or even the possibility or other options of care. Never once were we told hey, i want to give you another option called hospice because this outcome is grim instead our mom was put on the incorrect trial immunotherapy which made her even more ill. She really robbed our family of time and made our mothers ending very difficult and lonely. We recently had to go through our moms phone and saw the text exchange and our mom was asking for help every other text and not one kind word from her to our mom. Our mother was frightened and confused and the Dr only avoided our moms fear and sent her to specialists. Maybe she has some issues around death but her and dr sankhala had no skill in dealing with reality and prepping a patient or family for death. Im sure they have saved many lives we only write this in hopes someone reads this and explores other options. She was always too busy as well. Spread very thin as im sure its a demanding job . The seasons hospice team was unbelievably kind , focused and supportive. They should be more intergraded with the oncologists.
Dr McAndrew is the best she takes as much time as you need with her. She is very caring and provides the best treatment for each of her patients- she is so awesome and I have no problem driving from Camarillo for my follow up appointments with her. I'm so grateful to have her on my side.
I tried making an appointment for my mother to see Dr. McAndrews however she refused to take my mother on as a patient. My mother has metastatic breast cancer and was not at all happy with the care she was receiving with her oncologist. Dr. McAndrews is highly selective in deciding who she will see. You either have to have stage 1 cancer and be in remission or be a high profile celebrity. If she was truly a good doctor, she would have accepted any patient, including ones that are slightly more complicated.

She has always given me very thorough exams and I find her very warm. I had another doctor prior to Dr. McAndrew who was very cold at times. My 1 and only complaint is that its difficult to get an appointment with her and oftentimes Im waiting for quite a while. However I find her worth waiting for.
Dr. Philomena McAndrew treated my mom for many years until she passed in 2008 of Hodgkins disease. It was a 17 yr battle for my mom. I think she had mixed feelings about Philomena, and I cannot be exactly sure how her care was over the many years, as I was a child most of that time. I do remember that my mom was in and out of remission, and that my mom did a lot of her own online research regarding new clinical trials and ended up seeking care elsewhere at times. I also remember my mom telling me that Philomena was somewhat cold, but I also remember that Philomena told my mom she needed to get out of an emotionally abusive relationship with my father, which I appreciated. My one complaint regarding Philomenas care that I can speak to that only now did I realize after talking to my grandmother (my moms mom) recently is that she didnt prepare my mom for death. My mom didnt prepare a will; she didnt say goodbye; she never came to terms with the fact that she was leaving. My grandmother, who went to many appointments with my mom, said Philomena did not talk realistically about the possibility that my mom would not make it in the end, even though looking back now, her death was quite imminent. I just wish my mom had been more prepared for the last goodbye. I feel she would have done more, said more, prepared more, and been more at peace. For your future patients with poor prognoses, I hope that they can leave this world with some feelings of peace and acceptance, and that you may help them prepare for death better.
I spent many years in the medical profession and I consider Dr McAndrews a national treasure in her field. I could not have asked for better and i felt welcome and very well cared for. I have been well now for about a decade now.
As my family is approaching the five year anniversary of my mom being cancer free, I thought of Dr. McAndrew and her compassionate care. These days it feels there are doctors that know their stuff but they lack compassion which goes a long way in the treatment of patients. She is truly the best. When my mom was first diagnosed, we were all so scared and needed guidance and reassurance and top notch care and Dr. McAndrew gave us just that. With both my mother and grandmother having a history of breast cancer she suggested genetic testing for my sister and I. I will never be able to thank her enough for how she helped my mother and our family get through the diagnosis and treatment. I have recommended her to many of my friends and family.
I was a patient of Dr. McAndrew for over 10 years and then, as a got sicker and sicker , I knew I needed to change. She was not the right doctor for me. The best thing I can say is always get a second opinionthat is what saved my life.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
