Review for Gupta - [ ] My vocal struggle began over 10 years ago after the passing of my father when I began to notice unusual fatigue and hoarseness in my voice. As a performing arts teacher and musical director, I use my voice all day, everyday, year-round with little to no downtime. About 5-6 years ago, I realized that I was having trouble with the notes in my passaggio, and suspected that I might be developing some kind of growth, but my teaching demands would not allow me the vocal rest that I needed. In hindsight, I should have listened to my body. About 4 years ago, I realized that I could not produce certain notes after singing for just a few minutes and that my voice would get increasingly more difficult to use very quickly. Then during the pandemic, teaching in person with masks on (sometimes double masking) I would completely lose my voice for 4-5 days once a month. I realized that if I didn’t do something drastic, I may not be able to speak at all. I began working with my dear friend and colleague, Joy Fields, who helped me regain some of my voice while I explored my options. After determining for sure that I had developed a node on my vocal folds, Joy referred me to Dr. Rena Gupta. I live on Maui, so it was daunting for me to pursue what the possibilities might be for me to go through. Dr. Gupta and her staff made the entire process as easier and more comfortable than I expected. From start to finish, my journey took about 15 months, and Dr. Gupta kept every promise she made while informing me realistically every step of the way. She warned me that with my particular unusual case that surgery might not be an option for me and that I would have to wait until such time that I would be able to commit to the necessary recovery, so that meant waiting a year to even find out if surgery was an option. Dr. Gupta and staff answered all of my questions via the Spruce app while I was home preparing for the exploratory surgery with my vocal coach. Conscientious of my financial concerns, they worked with me to provide payment options and find a facility that would accept my out of state insurance. The surgery was not only successful to the level that Dr. Gupta predicted, but she determined that a follow up procedure in a few years would not be necessary due to how well the surgery and recovery went. Dr. Gupta’s professional and personal approach left me at ease and gave me full confidence that I had made the right decision. As a vocal coach and voice teacher, I cannot stress enough how important it is to seek professional attention as soon as possible when something is not right with your voice. I was only hoping to be able to speak and regain the ability to produce the correct pitches for teaching purposes without even hoping for regaining any level of quality, but Dr. Gupta has given me so much more to hope for. I’ve got another 6 months or so of rehabilitation before I know the extent of improvement, but it’s already beyond what I hoped for. I highly recommend Dr. Gupta for your vocal health needs without reservation whatsoever.

I'm an actor/singer who's been seeing Dr. Gupta since 2017 and want to sing her praises (literally)! I initially saw her for vocal fatigue/strain and we learned I had a weak vocal cord. She prescribed vocal therapy which helped me get stronger and after a recent visit due to another strain, we learned my weak vocal cord is no more and my cords are stronger than ever! With my recent strain, she gave me guidance for treatment, which helped me immediately. I can't recommend Dr. Gupta enough, particularly if you're a singer/use your voice for your career as she understands those issues in a very specific way. She's so friendly (as is her lovely staff), she's caring, takes her time and I just always feel like I'm in great hands with Dr. Gupta!

Dr. Reena Gupta did my vocal fold surgery back in 2017 & I couldn’t be happier. Thank you again for everything you’ve done for me, Dr. G! You gave me my life back, and I still don’t take even one day for granted that I have my voice, not just back, but better than it ever was before. I tell everyone about you, and I know you are changing lives every single day! I seem to get a DM or message online now just about every 2 weeks from someone who found my vlogs online talking about my surgery, who is either considering or about to have surgery themselves. I’ve had the opportunity to hopefully help them feel a little less alone. I always tell them about you- no idea if anyone has gone in to see you based on that, but I sure hope so! You are the best doctor I’ve ever known.

As a singer one of the scariest things is needing to see a laryngologist about your voice. The fear that something is wrong can be crippling and prevent you from going. A friend recommended Dr Gupta to me and said she was the most helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable in her field. And they were 100% right. Her staff is so communicative and helpful scheduling. And they were able to get me in less than a week. Dr Gupta herself was exactly as advertised. Extremely knowledgeable, understanding, kind, compassionate, reassuring and beyond helpful. She takes the time to really dig deep into what you’re feeling about your voice, rather than just how things sound. The clarity of the video she gets from her stroboscope is crystal clear and her understanding of the voice is outstanding. She gave me several recommendations to help with my vocal health moving forward. She even reached out to my coach to tell her what I was struggling with so we could plan lessons. Bottom line. If you’re a singer you need to see her. Even if nothing is wrong, she is a fantastic Doctor and person to have on your side to help keep your voice is the best possible shape for your career.

Is it weird that I look forward to my appointments with my laryngologist?!? Maybe, but I don't care. That's how much I adore Dr. Gupta. She has SAVED my voice, literally, multiple times. Cannot say enough good things about being a patient here. I know I am in THE best care, and even when I feel like I have the scariest of voice concerns, I know I can overcome anything with Dr. Gupta on my team. I cannot recommend them enough - I literally send people to Gupta like I'm gettin' paid for it (I am not). I just want everyone to feel that their vocal needs can be met and UNDERSTOOD here. Dr. Gupta has created a very special practice. I'm very grateful.

Dr. Gupta is truly one of the BEST in her field. It makes sense why she has such a fantastic reputation. After being misdiagnosed by two other doctors, she was able to diagnose why I was having vocal issues. As a VO artist and singer, she understood how important my voice was to me and together we decided on the best plan to move forward to quickly but safely get back to work. I love her kind, empathetic and straightforward manner. She tells it like it is and truly cares about each of her patients. She and her staff are so kind and accommodating, with prompt communication. Since I am now healed and recovered, I will miss my frequent appointments with her. Though bittersweet, my experience with her gave me the best gift I could ever ask for. Not just my voice, but the confidence I need to continue doing what I love most. And now I can move forward equipped with more knowledge and a brilliant voice care team at my side.
