I had been struggling with my mental health for more than 9 months and during my medical leave of 2 weeks, I got laid off too. I have been getting treatment for it by Kaiser and am on medications, therapy etc. I have been fully non-functional and when I found out there is state disability program offered by California to help people like me who are going through such an unexpected and toughest time of your life where even living or breathing is a chore, financially weak due to not not be able to get back to work as not even close to recovery, I requested my psychiatrist at Kaiser for help with STD and unfortunately she denied to help, saying I’ll get complacent and won’t try to recover faster.I just didn’t know what to do as I felt so helpless as nothing was in my hands. I was super stressed and it was impacting my mental health recovery and my own doctor didn’t want to help. I found California Psychological through my research to get a second opinion and a thorough mental evaluation. I was pleasantly surprised by their process. Staff and the doctor who evaluated me was very thorough, I felt heard and supported. It really felt like he understood my pain and he himself suggested that based on my current health condition, I should look into Short term disability and take some time off from worry about anything but just focus on my health and recovery. They made a difficult situation much easier to navigate and I am grateful for their expertise. They were just godsend for me and helped me through the state disability process. Because of this, I am in a better mental health state, focusing on my mental health to recover faster to get back to work and not financially stressed. I highly recommend California Psychological to anyone in need of assistance with state disability claims. I also want to thank California for such an amazing program to help people like me navigate the uncertainty of mental health.
