List of Cielo House - Eating Disorder Treatment Program's Reviews
Cielo House Moss Beach is the best eating disorder treatment center I have ever been to. The groups were top notch and included a variety of therapies not offered elsewhere each week where you leave the house such as equine therapy, ecotherapy, and garden group. We also had animal care daily with the goats and chickens that live on property. These were nice touches to add to more typical therapy groups like CBT, DBT, experiential, process, etc. Matt the CEO really cares about the individual clients and comes to the house a few times a week and runs one of the groups. One of the main things that really set this apart from other residential treatment centers I've been to is the ability to cook and prepare breakfast and snacks daily (you choose what you like at the time as long as it meets your mealplan exchanges) as well as making lunch a few times per week. In addition to this hands on experience in the kitchen, you also plate all of your own food that the chef cooks. I believe that this is more real world and forces you out of your comfort zone to really do real life.
I went to Cielo House Moss Beach residential program. I went in terrified & extremely apprehensive about recovery. Although the beginning was really difficult, Cielo was hands down the best possible experience I could have had. The staff are so kind & supportive & groups are all so stimulating. The house is right by the beach, extremely cozy, & the atmosphere is very family-like. They also let you have your phones & they even have goats, chickens, and a garden.

Cielo house helped me get my life back when I was determined I would never get better; and helped me through the hardest part of my life. Most treatment centers only see you as your insurance money and don't end up helping, but cielo house truly cares about you as a person, and does everything to help you and you can feel the difference the minute you walk in there and is a safe healing environment. They give you a safe place to help you recover and guide you to recovery until you can gain the power to do it on your own, and don't punish you like most treatment centers with privileges, they help you get the motivation and guide you to want recovery for yourself even if it's scary. I still struggle every day because Ed will something that will never go away and not something that will be 100% cured. But with cielo houses help, I learned how to handle my lows on my own and use the stuff i learned there outside of treatment on my low moments and am forever grateful for cielo because without them I wouldn't have gotten my life back or be able to learn the tools I need to handle the low days and grateful for the support I got there
They were super kind to me while I was there and the program is individualized for each client. They encourage 100% meal completion but if really necessary you can supplement. Every Thursday if your vitals are stable, you can go to a horse ranch and hang out with the horses. You also go to a beautiful little farm and do all types of activities with nature. There are goats and chickens on house property and the view is amazing. The staff is so kind and they are super accommodating. Highly recommend!
All they do is shove food down your throat. None of the staff are genuinely equipped to handle complex eating disorders or the life trauma usually connected to them. There is 1 doctor on staff for almost 7-10 patients at a time, who only visits once a week. She is COMPLETELY unable to provide adequate care. I explicitly and repeatedly requested to NOT be sent to an inpatient psych ward when they said they could not handle my eating disorder, and they did NO RESEARCH and SENT ME TO AN INPATIENT PSYCH FACILITY. Only staff member adequately apologized for this. I was able to begin my recovery here only because I already had an amazing therapist at home who validated the fact that this was a terrible experience. Many of my peers in the program were not so lucky, and having kept in contact with them almost all of them express the utter failure of this facility to provide MENTAL HEALTH CARE. This facility is not worth the exorbitant cost.
I spent 5 months at Cielo house, I spent 6 weeks in moss beach residential facility. This was my first time in residential and it was challenging but I felt so supported by the staff there. The RD's and therapists were very compassionate and did everything they could to help support the clients. Matt the ceo is awesome and willing to help with all treatment stuff. I felt like they listened and understood my concerns. I spent two months in php/iop and it was a good experience in burligame other than the fact that I wasn't crazy about my therapis. Cielo house is super helpful and would recommend to anyone struggling with an eating disorder

This is for the residential treatment program in Half Moon Bay. I was there from May June-August 2016 it was my first experience with treatment, and I liked the setting in Half Moon Bay. However many of the other clients got preferential treatment. Some of the clients got more outings than others. The insurance billing was unprofessional and many of the clients were acting out their bulimia and purging outside when nobody was watching and nothing was done to stop it by staff. Cielo house has cold showers and loose rules, the residential home has no heat nor AC and this made it uncomfortable for me to stay. The other clients were unsure about the recovery counselors and the therapy interns really understanding life with an eating disorder. The counselors are in a hurry, stuffy, and don't even skim the surface of the root problem. Their was one time I was there and there were no medical staff so the therapist had to hand out the medications (not quite knowing what she was doing). Maybe Cielo House was nice 4 years ago but now the house is run down. I am not going to waste my money, there are so many better eating disorder residential units. Cielo House needs a health inspection and an overhaul.
This is for the PHP/IOP program in San Jose. I was there from June-August 2016 in my first experience with treatment, and I loved it while I was there. However, after a huge relapse and months of additional treatment at two other facilities in Utah and Chicago, I now realize how insufficient my treatment was at Cielo House. What I loved about Cielo House was how small the milieu was. There were 6-8 of us and we all clicked very well. I loved all of the individualized attention and how much I had the opportunity the process. Cielo House also takes a holistic approach to recovery, with yoga, chi gong, and acupuncture on the weekly schedule. However, when it comes to the real "meat" of treatment, Cielo House flounders. We talked a bit about mindfulness but never learned any of the DBT skills. All of the groups either were processing or middle-school psychology classes. Whereas other treatment facilities really dive deep into the depths of CBT, DBT, ACT, etc., everything here was VERY surface level. My ED urges waned and I went into "recovery," but I never learned anything about how to handle the urges when they would come back later. Additionally, the small milieu here makes Cielo House a great place to do Exposure Response Therapy, which is gaining a lot of popularity in treatment centers, but that wasn't happening here.I didn't click with any of the therapists here, although I did like my dietician. The meal plan here is the ADA's exchanges rather than intuitive eating, which may work for some people but just led me to get obsessive with counting my exchanges.Overall, it wasn't for me, and I see Cielo House as a "lightweight" in Eating Disorder treatment centers.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
