Qualities that are very important when it comes to working in this industry: emotional control, due diligence, and most importantly patience. Unfortunately for her patients and coworkers, she did not demonstrate any of these qualities. Even if you are having a bad day, please try and not take it out on hospital staff/patients, as this reflects poorly on your character.
Geriatric medicine administered by Dr. Michelle Dhanak is the real deal. My husband and I were at our wits end as we cared for my 95 year old Dad who suffered from Alzheimer disease. By mid 2020 he was so difficult and angry, and had so many health issues we didn't know where to turn. Through a friend I found out about Elder Consult. When Dr. Dhanak started caring for my Dad everything changed for the better, including our overall health. Covid lockdown was hard enough without the difficulties we faced with my Dad. Dr. Dhanak came in once a month and did a thorough exam, ordered labs when needed (which we got inhouse) and brought in ACE Hospice and Health Care when nursing care was needed. She was available for phone or mail consultations, was great about calling back, and provided excellent advice and guidance. We especially loved that when she came she wore the bright colorful clothing she favors. She always brightened our day and brought a smile to my Dad's face. She is a wonderful doctor. Count yourself fortunate if you or a loved one is able to be under her care. Thank you Dr. Dhanak!
Horrible person. Emotional abuse through the roof. She's fake to clients and abusive to colleagues and employees.
Dr. Landsverk is a whirlwind- so you might be put off at times by how short her communications are- but she is 100% committed to solving her patient's problems. And doing it well- meaning that her patients have, and feel that they have, a much better quality of life. She was thorough and thoughtful in resolving severe anemia quickly, and worked closely with emergency room doctors during mom's visits. She tries to make medical care responsive and effective, including in her referrals to local hospitals. She is straightforward and decisive, and able to be reached in emergencies. Under Dr. Landsverk's care, prescribing and adjusting a delicate balance of drugs, my 92 yr old mom was mostly freed of demented delusions and the tendency to violence when frustrated, and became able to laugh and enjoy life like she never had. It was a miracle for us. And as my mom's bones began to fracture easily, and other life-threatening breakdowns, Dr. Landsverk managed the pain medications so she could focus on relationships, all without any trace of sedation, right to the end.
Dr. Landswerk took charge of care for my 90 year old mother with advancing dementia, delusions, and a nasty case of choosing to hit people when frustrated. She worked closely with the care and nursing staff and quickly stabilized mom's mood and ability to function, without sedation. She cared very carefully for mom through her last hours, adjusting medications right to the end. My sister and I are very grateful to have found her, as she enabled mom to actually enjoy her last year of life, laughing and making the most of things. Dr. Landswerk pays attention to communications, and despite a busy schedule acts right away when needed. She has developed a specialized understanding of how drugs operate, and utilizes them like a magician.
Dr Dhanak works with ElderCare, and I have greatly valued the care that she has provided to my partner with Alzheimers. She has done an exemplary job in working to stabilize his difficult and agitated behaviors. Dr Dhanak brings along a strong depth of knowledge and experience in dealing with people who have dementia. She has a skilled intuitive sense in figuring out what's happening. I found her to be available and responsive; dedicated to improving the lives of her patients, and insightful on how to do it. She has a good sense of juggling the meds of her patients; relieving pain and agitation without snowing them down by overmedicating. She provided my partner with excellent care, and I have nothing but respect and appreciation for her helping us through some very difficult situations. I have spoken with family members of residents who were also under Dr Dhanaks watch, and it's pretty much a consensus; she knows what she is doing. I've seen her work with difficult behaviors of residents at the Alzheimers community, and she has had very good results. I have no problems in giving a five star review to Dr Dhanak, and am confident to recommend her without reservation.
Stay away - she's horrible! Dr Landsverk saw my dad on Oct 4, 2018 and advised us he would do well in a memory care facility given his dementia/Alzheimer's diagnosis. She wanted him to lose 10 lbs, increase his walking and get more active during the day. My dad had been complaining of back pain which Dr. Landsverk completely ignored. She advised us to get an ultrasound of his arteries & legs to check the blood supply to his legs. Instead we contacted my Dad's urologist for an MRI of his back and chest. Dr Landsverk prescribed gabapentin which we were reluctant to give him given he didn't have nerve pain and the sign effects are numerous. On Oct 19, 2018, we got the call from the urologist that my dad's bladder cancer had returned. Thankfully, we hadn't moved him to a memory care facility. My dad passed away on Dec 7, 2018. Clearly, Dr Landsverk misguided us yet charged us $1200!! And to top it off, her personality/bedside manner is atrocious: insensitive, rude, disrespectful & condescending. I wish we had never contacted her.
My comment:Don't let anyone provide Psychotropic drugs to Alzheimer patient you are responsible for without your consent. Have doctor explain all potentialside-effects both immediate and long-lasting on patient.Have doctor explain the benefit of putting him on these drugs vs the benefit of other options..My husband was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers. He was young and still strong. I wanted to take care of him at home without drugs through behaviour techniques. I knew he had anger problem he grabbed arm of aide at daycare center. I hired Dr Landsverk to help us through maze of Alzheimer medication and care options. She came to our house to observe my husband and put him on Depakote, mild psychotic that kept him calm but didn't not knock him out or deaden his personality.I was pleased there was better option than Risperdol which was suggested by other doctors. He thrived at home for 18 months. He atewell and was active and interested his surroundings. I gave him consideration and respect. I contacted Dr. Landsverk when I wasn't sure how to handle something. She responded quickly and gave excellent advice to solve the problem. My husband can't speak or verbalize.Eventually I hired female aide to change/shower him. She also fed him. I was with them all the time. They were good for 3 weeks.4th week my husband kicked her with his foot when he was laying oncouch. I got many calls from social workers. He slept a lot and ate moreerratically.Dr Landsverk gave me the name of a facility. I thought he would go to a comfortable place where he would get friendly care and opportunitiesto socialize, play, eat and be enriched. Somehow, I was thinking professionals would take better care of him because they had more training and knowledge. It seemed like a nice place and people were friendly. I didn't think to ask questions about their approach to handling difficult residents or investigate if it was an appropriate place formy husband according to how I thought his care should go. I signed paperwork and was told to come back in a weekso he could adjust. When I returned he was DRUGGED WITHPSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGEOR CONSENT. He was slumped over half-asleep in chair. He grabbed me and held on tightly. I had to pry his fingers loose when Ileft. I called Dr Landsverk. She I called Dr Landsverk. She said she was glad he was there and it was best for him there. I should continue to visit him there...so I left him there ...The drug treatments continued until he became a threat to no one. He was in wheel chair with little use of hisof his arms or legs and his head slumped over. It was painful to seehim deteriorate so rapidly from the drugs. Dr Landsverk told me he was very aggressive. I know that means he could hurt the staff. It also meant to me that he was scared and afraid. He lost his ability to understand and communicate because of Alzheimer's, but he still had human reactions/feelings. He was in 'fight or flight' mode like an animal that is trapped. He couldn't flee so he had to fight. That is instinct of self-preservation when threatened. I can understand pain and confusion he went through.I am so sorry I placed him in unfamiliar place where he would become aggressive and needed to be drugged into submission, without at least notifying me. This is not what I wanted or signed up for as a client of Dr. Landsverk. I hired her to help 'AVOID' this situation. I did not want him to be made a vegetable prematurely. If I had known what would happen I would have taken any and all steps to keep him at home. I was supposed to be his advocate. I feel responsible for making him go through this. I deeply regret the mistakes and poor decisions I madefor my husband. He was on Hospice within 4 month and Hospice group helped me find resources to take him home. Going to be more early onset men with attitude and strength....Hope there is a better solution for this set of patients.
This lady is one of the rudest lady's I have ever spoke with. She is aggressive with her words and has the personality of a puffed up prideful person. Many doctors feel they are over everyone else and treat others such as nurses CNAs and caregivers with disrespect. These are the people who care for mom everyday and keep a smile on her face. They do not need to be talked down upon or made feel lower than. Shame on her for not understanding the importance of a team to help her patients that she is considered a part of not the God over
For more than two years Dr. Landsverk has helped my mother (and our family) deal with the heartbreaking impact of vascular dementia. After we made the decision to move my mom out of her home because of her extreme anger, paranoia, and delusions, Dr. Landsverk evaluated her and made the thoughtful decision to put her on several medications, including certain anti-psychotic medications. She clearly explained to us that she only believes in using these medications if the patient is suffering in some way. My mom was clearly suffering, as she thought everyone around her (including my dad) was hurting her and she was constantly scared and angry. Dr. Landsverk explained the risks and benefits of the medications and helped us to understand that using the medications could help my mom to suffer less. It became apparent almost immediately that my mom's delusions and anger were lessened by the medications. She did not seem at all overmedicated or sedated -- just less agitated. In fact, she made friends in her memory care community and engaged in many activities. Dr. Landsverk regularly checked in with my mom to make sure her behavior still warranted the ongoing use of the medications. At one point, she seemed less agitated, so Dr. Landsverk decreased the dosages. However, after doing so, my mom's agitation increased, so Dr. Landsverk brought the dosages back up. If my mom occasionally seemed overmedicated, Dr. Landsverk reduced or eliminated the medications as appropriate. It became clear that this is a careful balance and Dr. Landsverk has the knowledge and experience to navigate these challenges. The fact that she will travel to my mom where she lives is also a lifesaver. There is no way we could easily get her to a doctor's office, given her challenging behavior. We appreciate everything that Dr. Landsverk has done for my mom. She has made a huge difference in our lives.
