MIlls-Peninsula Emergency Department's Online Review Report Card

Good level of care, but facilities need some updating. We've used this facility for years. The medical care has generally been quite good, but the facility could use a refresh. For example, this is what the seats look like in exam rooms. Fabric chairs were a poor choice to begin with and they've gotten filthy over the years. It's time to replace these with chairs that are easier to clean and disinfect. The current ones are disgusting.

After being deprived of sleep for 2 days, i ended up in the mental health emergency department here where i was subjected to 18 hours of torture with fast and loud pre-recorded off beat sounds unrelated to each other and loud and large group of personnel talking non stop at different elevated tones, positive and negative that caused increased heart beat and blocked me from sleeping, even after 2 days of no sleep at all. During my stay they changed 3 shifts and during this time they all had the same engagement and practice. I have only one explanation to this, they engage in such practice so a patient can deteriorate their mental state further, become unstable which in turn means a longer stay there, a higher chance of them returning there and as a result more billable days for profit. This place is hell.

If I could leave a 0 star review I would. If you are seeing Dr. Brad Angeja, don't expect a caring and reassuring doctor. I went in as a 23 year old who has been experiencing heart pain and left arm pain for over a month. It's taken a while to meet with a cardiologist, and I was finally happy I was able to get an appointment. I had hope that Dr. Angeja would be able to get to the bottom of my pains and symptoms. I woke up early to go to my appointment and had to drive 30 minutes to Burlingame all for nothing. During the appointment, all he did was cut me off. He talked down to me and would sarcastically laugh when I was explaining these symptoms that have impacted my life so much. He was not listening to me at all. He was very dismissive and seemed like he just wanted to move on to the next appointment. He didn't check anything at all. All he said was "you are a young man, it is not your heart". No tests done. He checked my heart beat like I was 2 years old. The appointment lasted like 5 minutes. This has to have been the worst doctors appointment I have ever experienced in my life. I truly feel bad for any patients that have to meet with him. I expressed my frustrations to the front desk, and the lady at the front was super sweet. She helped me schedule an appointment with a different cardiologist in November. Dr. Angeja did nothing to help reassure or figure out what I have been experiencing. He is very rude. I didn't feel cared for at all. He made me feel super uncomfortable. I had so many questions, but he kept dismissing them as if they were invalid questions. He could have been having a bad day, but to treat patients poorly who are expecting your CARE is truly unacceptable. I feel horrible for people who have to experience an appointment with him. I hope something is done after I post this review. I never write reviews, but this is truly a bad experience. I wish for no one to ever have to deal with this. I hope the Cardiology department talks to Dr. Angeja about his treatment of patients. Thankfully, I will never be seeing him again. I'd rather wait months for an appointment with a different doctor.

Never come here. Everyone is so mean and severely under stuffed. I am waiting here for more than 5hrs, but cannot be called. Many people in front of me. Some people left even though they needed a treatment. I also tried to leave, but they mentioned that they would charge me for ER anyways as I already have talked with the triage doctor for 10 sec.

Worst emergency care ever. Literally made us wait for 8 hours just to get a bed, like really??? What kind of hospital ever does that to a patient? And it’s not just me but tons of other patients were made to wait a long hours. Just pathetic.

My son had went into the Er Thursday 8/17 around 7pm. He checked in and was told he was put on-top of the list. My son was having sever stomach pains and was throwing up non-stop. Mind you, my son also has a heart condition and his face color was changing. As he was waiting to be seen, he kept throwing up, people were coming and going and he was still waiting to be seen. 4 hours passed and he got up to ask the nurse how long until he sees the Dr. the nurse told him to drink some water and wait. My son got very angry because the nurse was laughing at him. He knows when he goes to Er he is not allowed to drink anything until the Dr sees him. He got really upset and ended up leaving the hospital. As a parent this broke my heart to hear my son go through. SMH. My son ended up taking a uber to Children's Hospital in Oakland and was seen right away and was treated. My son also mentioned that the nurses were telling people they are short staffed and needed people to apply to help them. Also, the nurses were being really rude and laughing at patients as they were waiting.... Not professional!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I showed up to the ER after an accident and was waiting in the triage room to be checked. My mom arrived in the waiting room and asked for me, and a nurse told HER she needed to do a blood transfusion and take a pill (not having asked for her name or anything!). Other notables, a patient walking out without any nurses noticing, another patient on speaker yelling, a nurse telling a patient she was not notified that they had brought her back already so she’s had her meds ready for 20min, AND quite a few loud conversations in the visitor waiting area about other patient medical conditions. I would not recommend coming here if you have a choice. I do want to note that Dr Chad was very helpful once I was actually checked in and made me feel a lot more at ease about my incident.

If you suffer from depression make sure you read this cause you will want to avoid this scenario. So I had a bad night. I was in a dark place. Granted I was surrounded by stuff i could use to hurt myself but I decided I will go to hospital and see if I can get some help. So I got in my car and drove to the emergency room and checked in. I was nothing but polite to everyone and I was left alone in places where if I was going to hurt myself I could have. (If I was I would of hurt myself already and wouldn't of chosen to go to hospital) So I am sitting in chair and guy comes up. He takes me to room. Next thing I know I am forced to strip all my clothes except underwear. All my belonging were taken from me and I was tossed into for lack of a better word a prison cell. It had a bed a window so they could perk at you and four walls and cameras on ceiling. It reeked of bleach and profanity was on the wall. Weird stains on floor that you could see at certain angles. It was disgusting. I was then ripped of all my dignity and rights as they claimed me 5150. I made no attempt to do anything. I was a prisoner when I just was seeking help to understand my darkness. For 10+ hours. There was no way to tell time. No windows, no clocks. I was treated like an animal. Most workers treated me like a criminal. I couldn't believe it. I sat in that room through the entire night. The floor had small clumps of i have no idea. Gross. The walls were dirty with writing and who knows. I sat in one place and stayed up the entire night. I paced a bit also but the floor grossed me out. There were some very nice people but overall experience was being treated like a criminal. Funny thing is most of the night there was stuff like sandwich plastic carrier and plastic water jug amongst other things I could of hurt myself with. But I didn't. A E.R. Doctor came into see me very early. She was nice and she let me have my phone and apple watch back. It really made me feel better. So Thank you to her. And I got to text my wife and get my head straight so that drama ended after about 20 -40 minutes being their. But the nurse or psych nurse something came in and treated me with Zero respect. She took my phone and watch and told me I am 5150 and a danger to them and talked to me like I was dirt. There was a very nice nurse on her shift though. But I was locked in this cell for 10+ hours. I was asked to take a piss test but I had to remove the booties they gave me after cause I had to walk in the bathroom and they reeked so I removed them. I wasn't offered to get new ones once. At least till they finally moved me. So no more pacing stuck in my little spot on bed. Problem was that my suicidal thoughts were already gone and they were just thoughts as I went for help. Just by the fact I went their instead of doing anything should of been a clue to someone. Anyway, I was taken to a better room after 10+ hours in a cell I think because my wife showed up. Gross thing was a guy was wheeled in as soon as I was wheeled out. No attempt to clean or disinfect room at all. What happened before I was in there? Anyway it was the single most horrible experience of my life and I will never go to Hospital again for help if I feel I need it. Not without being forced. Thanks for that. I trusted them before this. I was finally moved to a better room after sitting for 10+ hours but still pretty minimal. But a guard was placed at my door entire time. So still treated like an animal. Guards were super cool. One even sang to me. So bravo. Psychiatrist finally came after almost 12 hours of being captive. They wanted to keep me longer. Holy S--- Thank god she called my wife to vouch for me so I was able to leave. I didn't have a chance otherwise. I will never trust a hospital again. I chose to go and get help. What an idiot I am. I am 55 years old and I have never been so humiliated in my life. If I was suicidal I don't see how this would of helped at all. Keep that in mind. Stay safe. Get depression checked. But be ready for that experience if you go to hospital and ask for help. Pure disrespect. Literally a full prison experience for the price of a 5 star resort. Disgusting I was treated like this. And it is going to cost me thousands even with my insurance and who knows what the repercussions of this will be going forward either. They did not help at all. They treated me like garbage. Patient Experience team has ignored me five times already. Update: They sent me a letter to respond to my complaint. In a nutshell it said too bad so sad we don't care. Awesome. To be tied to an uncaring company that openly allows these practices of treating people like garbage whenever they want.

This is more of a warning than a review. Duplicate charges for procedures done in the ER. Not only do they bill your insurance for the ER copay, but every single thing. Also, beware that some of the ER physicians they use may not be part of the hospital and therefore instead of charges considered as in-network, you will get billed for out-of-network charges. Unfortunately, they don't disclose this and you pay for it later. Definitely go to an urgent care facility if you can, otherwise, you may see a big bill. And yes, some of their healthcare techs can seem rough around the edges, but their nurses in the ER were much more friendly.
