Please contact OPTUM directly @ 1-800-956-8000 press #8 to speak with someone if you are unhappy with care and/or treatment for you or your loved one. My husband passed away on Sunday. He had only been home from the hospital for one week. Diagnosed, not by Dr. Lawrence Wong whom he saw the beginning of May, but at Tricity hospital on June 21, 2022 with stage IV lung cancer with mets to lymph nodes. I will continue to file grievances or complaints where ever I can to try to get us a real Doctor in downtown Carlsbad. We should not have to leave the village to get responsible and safe care from a medical professional without have to pay through the nose for a PPO. Please please lets get a real Doctor and staff that truly care and want to help us "Do no harm."
I was a patient of Dr. Wong's for many years. He is very professional, experienced, with a good bedside manner.
Run don't walk away from this OPTUM office. Had been going to Dr. Bengs for years then Dr. L Wong took over. For the past year and a half have been trying to find out why my husband has lost so much weight. Did colonoscopy, fecal occult positive test, endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound with no issue found. Oh wait he is a fifty year smoker. Hmmm coughing up blood, short of breath. Lets give him prednisone and zithromycin. Hmmm cat scan didn't do. Why? I believe that is protocol for smokers. Off to Tri-City hospital in June could not breath oxygen saturation dropping to 80-89. HMMMM Lets do xray. Oh my there is a 8.5 CM right lung mass. Now lets do cat scan oh my there are other nodules. Went home for chemo and radiation follow up with Dr. Wong (HMO insurance). Oh no office has COVID. Can't do follow up, no on call Doctors. Back to Scripps ER in July. Oh no now it is 13.5 CM and growing rapidly. Cancel chemo, cancel radiation, cancel genetic testing, cancel living. Now home on hospice. Thanks Dr Lawrence Wong for the "Do no harm". Yes, I am angry and well deserved. Should have believed the other posts. Now I sit here and watch the tumor pushing out his ribs next to his newly placed chemo port and his turned off defibrillator/pacemaker. It's almost as tall as the chemo port extending out of chest. Each day it gets bigger. Thank you Dr. Wong and staff for not doing the right thing. Stay away from the office. They put you on hold for 45 minutes then don't call you back. Referrals take 2 weeks. I am a 35+ Registered Nurse. I believe in the DO NO HARM. THIS IS HARM. Shame on you and your staff.

Oh forgot that he felt the swollen right clavicle lymph that was cancerous and said it was nothing. Tricity aspirated it and verified that it was cancerous.
Absolutely terrible. No care, zero compassion for their patients.
Lourdes , the medical assistant is incredibly rude , so much so she makes patients uncomfortable super unprofessional , she should not be working in a medical setting or with people anywhere just awful. Dr. Wong is a great Dr. and knows what he is doing it's unfortunate because I will not be coming back here at least not as long as Lourdes is still there.
I recently called for a telemedicine visit only to find out they have gone back to in-person patient visits only or telemedicine only for COVID cases. The one thing I can say about COVID is that the modernization of services such as telemedicine was welcome, especially for routine visits for prescription refills. I am taking my appointment today but will look for a primary care office that offers modern services that cater to how patients would like to visit the doctor. I don't get the mentality of going back in time to an antiquated patient care system.
The front office employees are incredibly rude here mainly a woman by the name of Dulce. She is also very unhelpful and uninformed It's sad. I like my doctor but I dread going to see him because of them
Two week wait to even have a 5 minute phone call with the doctor. I really dont see what the point is of having a doctor who can only talk to you once you've recovered from whatever trouble you are having. Basically in my hour of need, no help found here :/Dr Wong is a good doctor and I was always enjoyed seeing him, but since trying to get an appointment or get a return phone call is very close to impossible, I have to find somewhere else to go.
I was incredibly disappointed in the poor care I received from Dr. Wong & his staff. First of all in a past visit, the person drawing blood hurt me & blamed me for her not finding the right vein & then shamed me for not wanting the flu shot. I overlooked this poor etiquette because I usually appreciate Dr. Wong's quick visits, but today was different. Instead of Dr. Wong renewing a prescription for a cold sore medication, he stated I needed to make an appointment. I said that would be fine, but I need it today so I can take care of my self. He said the soonest was next week. How is this family care? It's so illogical & useless, I agreed to scheduling it if he could just renew prescription for lip. He refused. This is not caring for your clients, this is about getting a paid visit for a condition that is not of concern & he has used his power trip to force me to go to an urgent care for something this minor & during COVID. I would not recommend him or his staff. Poor workmanship & even worse care.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
