Rahel Ruiz's Online Review Report Card

Stay away from Dr Ruiz at all cost. She is the most uncaring and disrespectful doctor I have ever encounter. Showed absolutely no caring or compassion towards my mother. I took my elderly mother to see Dr Ruiz for complaints about swelling in the face and legs. The doctor entered the examine room and noticed my mother's face mask was down and told her, not asked her, to pull up her mask. No hello or greeting. She asking what we were there for and I explained that my mother had leg swelling and some swelling in her face. Dr Ruiz did not ask to look at her legs or face and said she already saw her for the leg swelling and she needed to see her cardiologist about it. I said that she also had increased shortness of breath and she again said she needed to see her cardiologist about it. After some back and forth seeing that we would not get any sort of assistance with her symptoms, I asked if we could go over her medicines since so much has changed. That is when she said I needed lose the attitude. At that point I told my mother we were leaving. On the way out I said to her if she wanted some respect, she should also show some respect. That is when she said "GET THE F@&K OUT!"No profanity or yelling was directed towards her and this is how she responding in front my my mother and other nurses. This is not a one-time occurrence with this doctor. See her reviews in Health Grades and also other Yelp reviews for her under Hills Health. I would give zero stars if I could.

During a visit, she did a depression scale and I started crying. She then tried to push medication on me and I had to say no several times which made me get an annoyed tone. Then she tried to tone police me and tell me to calm down. A depressed person, after a depression screening who is crying...calm down. Apparently this doctor and the Hill company she works for have never heard of trauma informed care....but they proscribed mental health medication?

She is an amazing and compassionate doctor. I can't say enough about her care for my family members

Dr. Ruiz was my doctor when she was with the Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center. She was one of the best doctors I've had. She is very attentive to the patient's needs. Dr. Ruiz listens and orders proper test to make a diagnosis. There's no need to convince her that your sick. Who wants to need to do those things when you're sick. I was disappointed when I found she was no longer with the Clinic. They lost a great physician.

I saw Dr. Ruiz at the Tiburcio Vasquez clinic in Hayward. I came to Dr. Ruiz with severe medical issues. She has been wonderful in taking care of me. She had to refer me to a number of specialists and follow up on my various appointments and tests.

Terrible terrible experience with this doctor. I'm surprised she still has her license to practice.

Diffident, seemingly bored, in a hurry and uninterested in doing anything more than the bare minimum care.

Dr Ruiz makes rounds at several nursing facilities in the Bay Area. She is inadequately trained to be caring for seniors as she appears to 'go through the motions' in order to file a claim with Medicare. Nursing home staffs hate her, she doesn't get along with ancillary companies (home health providers, hospice care, dme providers). I can't, for the life of me, figure out why nursing facilities continue to use her. Her bedside manner is abhorrent, and she flies off the handle and has a temper tantrum whenever a question (no matter how benign) is asked to her. She would be better suited working as a collections bureau agent than as a physician.

I wrote a letter to Dr. Ruiz to ask her to provide me with the medical records of for an elderly woman for whom I serve as her conservator. I needed the medical records in order to insure for a smooth transitioning of the elderly woman from one assisted living facility to another facility located in a different region. Dr. Ruiz did not respond to my written request for medical records. Instead, she did release them to the elderly woman's new physician more than three weeks after I had made the initial request in writing to Ruiz. When I asked Ruiz why she delayed in releasing the records she explained that she cannot release records to anyone but another physician. I contacted The State Medical Board which informed me that Ruiz was wrong and should have immediately released the medical records directly to me. When I brought this to Ruiz's attention (as a courtesy) she replied to me: "I am not surprised by your latest outburst. Your behavior throughout our interaction has been petty, childish and utterly unprofessional." I reminded her that my interactions with her had been by Email and that the Email record will show that each Email was professional. Furthermore, my relationship with Ruiz was very brief because the court only appointed me as the elderly woman's conservator in January 2013. I cannot recommend Dr. Ruiz as a medical doctor for the following reasons: 1) She failed to respond to my request to release medical records to me; 2) Her written communication is emotionally charged which makes communicating with her difficult; and 3) Dr. Ruiz is poorly informed about her duties regarding the release of medical records.
