List of Discovery Mood And Anxiety Program- Chino Hills's Reviews
I cant even communicate just how thankful I am for this program and the people who work there. Before I went I was struggling immensely with every aspect of my life - i wasn't sleeping for days at a time, eating very poorly, smoking 4+ times a day, would spend hundreds every day, drinking too much, my hygiene was AWFUL, and my mental health was the worst it's ever been (and i've really gone through it many times so that's saying something). I could go on, but you probably get the point. I went into the program having never done anything like it before. It was definitely a big change from what i was used to, going from doing whatever i want whenever i wanted too to having a strict schedule and regiment for 5 weeks is a bit shocking. However, i am so so thankful that i did the program. It has helped me completely shift my life around, truly. I am now 8 months sober and so much better off than i've been in a long long time. It was the reset that i needed and I learned so much from the amazing staff!! I was there for a total of 5 weeks and I will never ever forget the people and lessons i learned along the way. I highly recommend!! (PS - I miss throwing the rugby ball with you Nicole!! Hope you and tuts are doing ok!!) - Tara
This place impacted my in a way I cannot describe. This is the best MH treatment I have ever received. The amazing staff made me feel emotionally safe to open up. I feel that there was a balance of understanding, respect for the client's needs and a real desire to help me in treatment and with that sensitivity I was truly able to trust, learn and improve! This place is number one in treating all types of mental health disorders and is EXTREMELY professional and helpful.
This is absolutely one of the worst mental health residential centers !!! And I know because my whole family suffers from some sort or another mental illness. My daughter was there for 5 weeks they diagnosed her with bipolar !!! Which they got WRONG she has now been diagnosed with Boarder line personality disorder !!! Which is completely different. They based her diagnosis on that her sister is bipolar !!! What a waste of money and 5 weeks spent in a lock up mental faculty that treats there patients like they are inmates in jail. DO NOT GO HERE NO MATTER WHAT !!!
Amazing experience I was here 3 years ago and they had the best staff I’ve learned a lot from then and I just hope the staff and everyone is doing okay and I feel very embarrassed for the way I behaved there but in the end after being here I never went back to residential or the psychiatric ward and still have my crystal they gave me to this day also still do paper stars till this day too they definitely gave me that new hobby and sometimes when i go to disneyland i still hope i see the staff member had there but 10/10 would definitely be beneficial to anyone who is seeking the treatment
They aren't trained in complex situations. Not experienced with many things and tend to be very rigid in their beliefs, which is not the best approach as not everyone who goes here comes from the same background. I wouldn't suggest this place for anyone with trauma or a complex situation, housing insecurity, or someone facing abuse. There was a lot of victim blaming I witnessed and staff who didn't believe residents that were abused or faced trauma. They are an okay setting if you have a good support network back home and aren't facing complex needs, have medical issues, or have faced trauma. They were also very adamant about everyone going to an intense day program after which is great but they weren't understanding if the people who couldn't make that possible because they were... adults with jobs and needed to afford their lifestyles? It's like this place couldn't grasp their are more issues that go into mental health then just anxiety and depression, and that people going here sometimes don't have a great or safe support network to fall back on and have obligations to attend to outside of here. I personally wouldn't recommend this place to anyone but use your discretion.
This place is garbage. I spent a month there (Chino Hills location; I'm not sure if this page is specifically for that, but I assume these problems persist more generally as well). I will start off by saying that the level of attention to patients, the facilities, and the food are really outstanding and if a parent or person seeking mental health help care about these attributes (attributes that I, as a person who has attended several mental rehabilitation centers, know are very important), then Discovery is actually a really sound choice. However, this place needs to deal with some severe problems; the therapists are ridiculously underqualified and I severely doubt the qualifications of the woman who runs it, Heather, because she could not even answer the most simple questions about specific mental health disorders that any psychology or neuroscience undergrad could answer, or really anyone who reads any contemporary, peer-reviewed papers on mental health. I was absolutely admonished as an individual with bipolar disorder for sleeping in past 8AM, even though I told them, every single day, that following my natural sleep cycle is the only and most effective way to control my disorder. Even with medication, without proper sleep, I was hopeless. I printed out articles for them to read on the subject, but they refused. Despite doing all my art and worksheets, I was unable to attain certain basic privileges, like using headphones, two weeks into the program, simply because I slept until 9:00 and did not participate in their early morning "exercises," while I was having side effects from medications that would prevent me from doing them safely in the first place. Eventually I just took my headphones, so the joke's on them. The therapist Sarah is absurdly underqualified in terms of her knowledge and abilities and lied to me on several occasions, which was confirmed by others, and, as anyone with mental health challenges knows, petty, sloppy lies from a therapist is not really a foundation upon which trust is based. Girls come there with eating disorders, seeking help for underlying depression and anxiety, and the amount of pretzels or peanut butter we had as snacks was measured or counted. Ridiculously obvious flaw. The upside is that all of the counselors there, whom you spend most of your time with, are amazing and mostly masters students in counseling or social welfare, I believe, and they made my time there pleasant, in addition to the other girls, with the exception of one. Heather and Sarah need to read more and reexamine if they are really in the right place for them, for the sake of their patients.
Incredible staff including Noor!
They don't answer their phone!
i went there recently due to wanting to get away from my family situation and other personal matters. when i got there, my mom and i werent aware of a 72 hour hold id be under to forget about going home, and my mom didn’t receive the 35 page document explaining how they do things until ten minutes before we got there. they have good food selection, though the website advertises gourmet meals and we had to make breakfast and lunch ourselves. the staff there is friendly, though once my insurance ran out of days to pay, they acted hostile and wanted to get me out of the house as soon as possible (i wasnt allowed to truly say goodbye to anyone). there were also a few clients there that i believe should have been at a more intensive program(the person im referring to was kept stable by being forced to miss all the outings, which i thought was a little odd). additionally, i wasnt told about the phase system until i got my binder, and something about that kind of reward system irks me, though i suppose it’s mandatory for some people to have that kind of structure. i also felt that the staff spent more time baby proofing everything and keeping constant surveillance on us rather than actually forms of therapy (and for the few days i was there the only sort of thing thatd be considered therapeutic would have been reading out worksheets about mental health). overall, besides the withholding information and being rude once my insurance was up, i didnt have a whole lot of complaints, except when my mother was told on friday that i only had five days, that directly contradicted the fact that one of the therapists could try and talk our insurance into a “few more days to really get some work done”. when i said i wanted to go home after my 72 hour hold, i was told “are you just going to give up like this?” and attempts at persuading me. it didnt feel good, and i felt like they were very manipulative of my feelings. i also feel like the fact that i was told many different times that i could call my mom and that the schedule changed twice while i was there that they wanted to keep the girls confused- i was thoroughly dazed the whole time i was there because i wasnt aware when anything was, even after looking at the schedule dozens of times. wouldnt want to go back, wouldn’t recommend it, wouldn’t go to any of their alternative services, and i hope the milieu i was in is doing well.
I went as a twelve year old and I was the youngest but because of my history I could relate to everyone amazing and the staff is amazing! Definitely suggest this house if you or someone else needs it. It is an amazing mental health program

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process.
