My father has long suffered from spinal and leg problems, having gone through multiple treatments and surgeries without significant improvement. On January 22, he entered Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo to perform spinal surgery, became very sick after losing too much blood, and transferred into the ICU. His major problems were kidney failure and loss of conscience. He had to go through extensive dialysis, manual heart and lung support, and manual digestive support. Having endured extensive life support without any success, he passed away on February 15, 2015, 5:01am.
This doctor performed my first multi-level fusion and shortly I had a massive bacterial infection from the surgery. I had to go to the emergency room and soon after found out that this doctor has no hospital privileges anywhere because he only operates out of surgical centers so at this point I was on my own. I almost died from the bacterial infection and luckily another surgeon saved my life. The bacterial infection returned a couple more times like the new surgeon told me it might so at that point all of the hardware needed to be removed because that was the source of the bacterial infection.
Had Exosome injections to my neck and lumbar due to degenerative discs and stenosis. Dr. Shortz recommended Exosome as he said it is superior to PRP. Prior I had PRP injections (epidural and facet) elsewhere that provided some relief to my pain and numbness. In my initial visits with him he said that he does epidural injections and even intra-disc injections. On the morning of the injections he was late almost 2 hours and then rushed thru the injections. He injected only to the facets of the neck and lumbar but did not do epidural. After 6 months no improvement to my pain. He gives a good talk but fails to perform what he says. Big expense for the injections as this is not covered by insurance. Watch out for this old scammer.

DR. SHORTZ PERFORMED CERVICAL SPINE SURGERY ON MY NECK IN 1998. HE WAS AMAZING! I HAD 4 HERNIATED DISCS AT THE TIME. AFTER SURGERY AND RECOVERY, OTHER THAN MY LIMITED "RANGE OF MOTION", THE SURGERY WAS 100% SUCCESSFUL! NO NERVE PAIN! I HAVE RECOMMENDED HIM TO A NEIGHBOR. HOPE HE CAN HELP HER.
Dr Shortz was my surgeon a few years ago and I am in the exact same pain so I'm sure the degenerative disc disease has made it's way to another disc or More!¡! I am hopin and praying I can get him to be my surgeon Again because HE WAS AMAZING
Dr Shortz did a very difficult spinal surgery on me and was more than successful - I have had no discomfort from that area since, and the scar is barely visible. He is great at his work.
I had my surgery in 1995 with hardware, 1998 to take hardware out.I returned to work for two years driving truck, (Ready Mix). I also had him do my neck surgery.I recieved good care, they are busy because Dr Shortz is so good and is demanded greatly by others. They were very patient and understanding.Jennifer in the office was always so nice and good at taking care of my needs.Dr Roger Shortz has improved my life. I still can't believe I was so lucky to find him.
Don't know that much but about him however so far so good.
Disorganized mess. The PA is new and makes mistakes....which delayed surgery.I should have gone somewhere else. You likely wont even meet the Doctor as he is too busy. expect 2 weeks to get a paper signed. i wonder how many patients he has lined up who are miserable waiting for surgery.
