List of Barry A. Steinmetz, Md's Reviews
After visiting over 10 gastroenterologists, including several at CHOC Children's, I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Barry. I can't express enough gratitude for his care. Unlike the other doctors, who were more focused on long-term medication rather than finding a real solution, Dr. Barry took a different approach. He developed a treatment plan for my son’s constipation, and after a year of treatment, I’m thrilled to say my son is 100% cured. Dr. Barry not only explained every step of the process but was also deeply involved in the entire journey. He truly cares about his patients and doesn’t just want to keep them on medications indefinitely like so many others. I am forever thankful for his dedication and expertise.
Extremely thorough! We are forever grateful for Dr. Steinmetz!
If you want to wait months for an appointment and never see the doctor due to his overzealous front office staff (extremely controlling woman who acts as if it is her practice), then go ahead - book an appointment. Show up, and she won’t let you in. Her receptionist/MA also has a poor attitude and suggested that if we were going to be 10 mins late due to traffic (55 fwy was backed up snd we crawled the last 1/2 mile), then I should have I safely picked up my phone to give them a call. Ridiculous. We waited 2 months to do a simple follow up (it was not our request, but the doctor’s request)...The doctor had already ruled out everything after all the blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds, etc...and had nothing to say...couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her...and still can’t figure it out so he wanted to waste our time and effort to show up at his office at HIS REQUEST...I took a day off work to deal with this...and got nothing but attitude from the staff. All the doctor wanted was to feel her stomach. That’s it. 30 seconds...and they refused to let her see him claiming it takes several minutes to take vitals - Ha! They must be incompetent and untalented as it takes a minute to take vitals. This is the third time in 3 appointments the front office manager has given me a poor attitude and harassed me. No, I don’t need to return to be harassed and pushed away. I strongly feel this practice and office discriminates against minorities. She definitely looks like the type.of person who discriminates. I don’t think the doctors of the practice realize how she is behaving toward the patients.
The staff at the office are not only rude but condescending to their patients. I specifically had encounters with the office manager Rebecca. Their business practices are unethical as well. I would advise all parents to read their paperwork, especially the fine print before engaging them to treat your child.
The best pediatric GI in Orange County! He successfully diagnosed my son with Eosinophilic Esophagitis and guided us on getting it into remission very quickly. He is a 5-Star diagnostician. VERY SMART! and he explains every geeky detail about what goes on in the GI tract in a way where you can understand. Even though he is so busy, he always remembers what is going on with his patients (takes awesome notes), so you don't feel like you have to repeat yourself at every visit. This Dr is also super friendly with a fun sense of humor. The nurses at the hospital all rave about him as well.....He is definitely a favorite over there. This is probably the first time I have ever written an online review about a Dr, but I felt really compelled to because I always look up reviews myself. :)

A real Doctor. Knowledgeable, ask questions and Listens to the patient ( in this case a child ), might ask questions to the parent :) , makes a complete assessment of the patient and thinks off all the possible scenarios. Explains all that to the patient as well. Very happy with this finding
We were referred to Dr. Steinmetz by our pediatrician for my 11 year old son. Dr. Steinmetz was very friendly and thorough, not to mention great with my son! He will take his time to answer your questions. He is a fast talker but I wouldn't be afraid to ask him to repeat what he said or for clarification.
Dr. Steinmetz has an excellent bedside manner, is kind and courteous with parents, and absolutely wonderful with children. He is incredibly knowledgeable in his specialty, and works hard to find ways to approach treatment that will fit into the real world. I recommend him to everyone. He is by far the only GI specialist I will ever trust with my children. Everyone I've met who has ever worked with him has had nothing but wonderful things to say about him, and I agree. He is the BEST.
Dr. Steinmetz is the best GI doctor in Orange County. The practice is forward thinking, research based with a plan and goals that are expected to be reached within a specific timeline. If a goal is not reached he looks at other options that might work better or current research. After procedures, when we receive results, Dr. Steinmetz is very thorough, detail oriented and takes his time. We never feel rushed. There is no other doctor we trust.
