List of Andrew Calman's Reviews
Knowledgeable, efficient, low wait time, clearly explains issues. The staff is excellent. I'm a relatively new patient but the staff knows my name before I have to introduce myself. Wow!
I wasn't the patient, but was in the exam room with my mom. I watched and listened to Dr. Calman as he was examining my mom. At first, I thought he was ok (no personality - but I get it that he's not there to please people). After all the exams were done, my mom wanted to ask him a question not directly related to what he examined my mom for, but related to her vision in general, and he very dismissive. He was very rude! He won't let my mom finish what she wanted to ask; he would just cut it her off (read similar reviews of him walking away when asked). The front desk and back office MAs are nice, polite, and professional unlike Dr. Jerk. Suffice to say, I'm now researching for another eye doctor for my mom.
Dr. Calman and his support staff were all wonderfully caring and immaculately professional. They accommodated a last-minute emergency and, what's more, went the extra mile to make sure I got connected to the right specialists, handling all administrative details to make it happen without any delay. Eternally grateful.
Two and a half stars. Enough said. I go somewhere else.
Had a bad experience with Dr Calman. His staff especially Dr. Saldana are very nice but he was such a jerk. He walked away from me when I was asking him a question and was refusing to help with an issue I had with my eyes, he was sending me to someone else at another location when his office had performed the service before. We are paying for the service, it's not like your giving us service for free.
Worst physician I've ever met.He even lied that there were only a few ophthalmologist in San Francisco. The fact is there are at least 20 of those just in the downtown area.Save your time and money and stay away from Andrew Calman, MD, PhD, SOB, POS.
I'll make it short. I regret that I had gone to this practice. The place is a dump. The doctor, A. Calman, is more like a greedy used car salesman than a physician. My advice: you should take your business elsewhere. You already paid for your insurance, make it worth your money and find a better place for your health.
My husband and I have been going to Premier Eyecare for over twenty years. We have had annual exams from several doctors in this practice, and they are all excellent, as is the staff. Andrew Calman performed cataract surgery on one of my eyes almost a year ago. I am ready to have the next eye done, and I'd prefer he do it.One small disappointment in recent years is that Premier is not on our current health insurance company's preferred provider list, which means our out of pocket cost is a bit higher. However, as Dr. Calman is board certified, and has been in practice for so long, I feel that the extra expense is well worth having peace of mind!
This is the most condescending physician I've ever met in my life. His employees, though nice, polite and professional, obviously hate their jobs and their boss. They thinly hide their suffer. And this doctor is a Medicare / Medical hog.
See other one-star reviews. My experience was largely the same. I thought I had an appointment with Calman. Got passed off to someone in a white lab coat who appeared to be in mid-20s who just had me read he eye chart. I doubt she was even an optometrist. I only saw him when I insisted. He was disheveled . . . and notably put-off by my request. He did a perfunctory check of eyes. Can't imagine having him as a surgeon. This "shop" is geared to taking advantage of low-income folks who won't asked questions.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
