Edward Shin's Online Review Report Card

I arrived half an hour before my appointment only to be left sat in the waiting room for over an hour with everyone else who came in after and before me being seen. When I was finally shown to the exam room I waited for yet another 20 minutes. The doctor did acknowledge the wait and apologized for the delay due to an unforeseen case. I have a good feeling that I was just seen when he had the time in between his other patients as I was a new referral. However, for all of my waiting and patience he only examined me for five minutes tops. Before I could gather my questions together he was out of the exam room and on his way to the next patient. I was given his assistant who I had to ask my questions to. Then I requested the assistant for help in emailing me information about braces which he promised but to this day has not materialized even though I called at a later date to ask again. The receptionist assured me that the assistant would definitely get back to me; I am still waiting.The office is very busy & that's why I feel patients' requests get overlooked. Yet that is no excuse in my opinion.

First class doctor with friendly manner and a helpful staff! I especially appreciated the reception I received in Dr. Shin's office. I felt well cared for.

Outstanding experience. Outstanding physician and staff. I've been to several orthopedic surgeons over the years, knees.. spine..hips.. compliments of too many marathons. More recently (2 years ago), i was diagnosed with frozen shoulder. I saw Dr. Kenneth Akizuki and then Dr. Sara Edwards -- the kind of docs that dismiss you if you are not a patient needing surgery. I almost had to beg Dr Edwards to order another MRI. Now? My frozen shoulder has morphed into a hot mess -- no cartilage, torn rotator cuff, torn bicep. My pain management doc (Dr. Hoyland Hong -- another rock star) sent me to Dr Shin saying he was top notch and would send a family member to him. Because i have so much trust in Dr Hong, I immediately went to see Dr. Shin -- who was able to fit me in pronto. He explained my shoulder in detail, really taking the time to ensure I clearly understood what happened to it, and the effects of cartilage being worn down. Unlike many orthopods, no attitude, ego or arrogance. As much as I wanted him to be my surgeon, he stated that I need a complete shoulder replacement. I even asked for a partial -- because I wanted him to be my surgeon that badly. Unlike many surgeons (who want to operate so badly they will take the case themselves, rather than referring a patient on to another doc who specializes in a particular surgery) he said that even though he does perform partial replacements, a partial wouldn't provide full relief and fix all the issues I have. Instead, he referred me on to Dr James Kelly and Dr Mark Schrumpf. He took the extra step to contact those docs about my case to ensure I could be seen promptly. Special shout out to his medical assistant, Aaron, who was extremely pleasant and on top of all the things that needed to be done to expedite my appointments with the above mentioned docs. I didn't get the name of the front desk help -- but all were extremely pleasant (despite a packed waiting room). If I ever have the need for any more orthopedic surgeries -- he is the first doc on my list.

Dr. Shin is a dedicated practitioner who was doing consultations even when many practices were not working for the holidays. Making an appointment and interacting with his staff was a seamless and pleasant experience. He is efficient, very communicative and explains the diagnosis and treatment with confidence.

I am very glad that my doctor recommended Dr. Shin for my recent partial hip replacement. He is very professional and communicative. He walked me through every step of the procedure and make sure that I understood everything. In June of 2020, I fell off a bridge while mountain biking and broke my collarbone, badly. I was referred to Doctor Shin by a friend. When my husband and I met with him, he was personable, attentive and very knowledgable about my condition. He gave us the option to let me heal on my own, but he strongly recommended surgery since my break was so bad.I got the surgery 8 days after my break and it went really well. I had no post-op issues. The follow up with Doctor Shin and his staff was great. I also had an amazing physical therapist (Potrero Physical Therapy - suggested by Dr. Shin). At 45, I was determined to get back my full range of motion, and I did.When I had the surgery, Dr. Shin said that because I am petite, I may want to get the plate and screws removed after a year. The idea of another surgery didn't thrill me, but I trusted his opinion. I waited almost two years and just got them out in March of this year. My second surgery was a success as well. I am lucky to heal quickly and without issue.Overall, I had a five star experience with Dr. Shin and his staff. I would recommend him/them wholeheartedly.

After it became clear that I was going to be left to deal with the damage caused by Dr. Shin's lies and/or mistakes, I wrote a negative review back in December of 2019 on both Yelp and ZocDoc regarding my experiences. Dr. Shin called me within a few hours of these negative reviews being posted offering to pay for the care that I desperately needed as a result of his mistakes... the catch was I had to take the reviews down. I took his offer and scheduled the appointments I needed to receive treatment. I've given him over two years and he still hasn't paid a dime.I actually didn't think that I would be able to recover the negative reviews that I left but I contacted ZocDoc and they still had them! My 1 star review from December 2019 that he had offered to pay me to delete is attached below.**DEC 2019 Review Dr. Shin offered to pay me to delete**"I'll update my review if anything changes but it doesn't seem likely at this point.I had femoral osteoplasty and labral repair surgery w/ Dr. Shin as my operating surgeon to correct Femoral Acetabular Impingement. The surgery went well but I would not recommend Dr. Shin's office because of how my insurance approval for post operative physical therapy was handled. I specifically asked during my preoperative appointment if my physical therapy had been approved because there was some questions as to whether or not it would be as I had hit my PT visit limit for 2019. Dr. Shin told me that everything was happening as expected with my insurance and that my insurance would never approve a surgery without the post operative physical therapy. Dr. Shin told me in this meeting we absolutely would not move forward with the surgery if my physical therapy was not approved because the chance of success of this surgery without post operative physical therapy was low. Well, we moved forward with the surgery. Afterwards, I found out that my insurance never approved physical therapy like I was told, and that Dr. Shin's office never went through the appeal process like I was told. It's been over 5 weeks since my surgery and I haven't been able to go to physical therapy and his office keeps failing to keep their promises about getting it approved or even following up with me about it."Dr. Shin has a very kind demeanor. I still regularly receive bills from Edward Shin's office. Every time I receive a bill, I call both Edward Shin's office as well as the billing number and tell them I received an incorrect bill and ask for a call back.Just like I'm not receiving a response here, I don't receive a response from Edward Shin's office.Edward Shin is an absolute crook. I would avoid this office at all costs.
