Gay Walker's Online Review Report Card

I have been seeing Doctor Walker for 5 years now. I understand the reviews below but feel they are overly harsh. I love that Doctor Walker is an excellent communicator through the portal which helps move the ball forward. My last Scripps doctor, who I saw for decades, would not use the portal and was impossible to reach. I sat in the waiting room 2 and 3 hours to see her and decided I had to make a change to reduce stress. Walker is efficient and does not keep me waiting long but getting appointments is trying. Insurance only allows for 20 minute long appts., or is it 10, which Walker sticks to even if it is not always in the best interest of the patient. To me that inflexibility is more about the system and not Walker. If I can add anything at all it would be to advise you to take more personal responsibility for diet and exercise and then seeing primary docs can tend to be more perfunctory. I try as hard as I can to stay out of doctor's offices and need no meds. at my advanced age. : ) That is me winning no matter America's healthcare shortcomings. Discipline frees me to live the simpler life.

When I lived in San Diego, Dr. Walker was my primary doctor for 9 years up until 2018. She never steered me wrong with all my many health issues. She was like my friend, doctor and family all-in-one. Yes, she has a demeanor that I can see a lot of people disliking. But when I choose a doctor I choose competence over friendliness and bedside manner. Dr. Walker listens! Yes, she may be typing at her computer or thinking (staring) while you are talking and answering questions, but what she is doing is soaking all your information in so she can determine the best route of care. She is a thinker not a talker. She analyzes everything carefully before speaking. I think too many people look for a friendly, outgoing and talkative personality in a doctor. These are traits you should look for in salespeople and perhaps your friends, but not a doctor! I live in Oregon now and wish I had Dr. Walker as my primary. I miss her expertise and guidance so much!

Very sarcastic and demeaning

I tried a telemed visit with her to see if I could get better service as I usually have to wait to see her when in the office at least 1 hour after my appointment time. Still no different with the telemed visit. The office called 45 minutes after the scheduled appointment time to say she was delayed. A text link was never sent out to initiate the televisit after an hour, so I called to check on the appointment. They said she tried to initiate the virtual visit and there was no response (I never did get the link) so she cancelled the appointment all together and would not reschedule until a day later. Very disappointed! Been seeing her for 7 years, and her patient service and care has decreased considerably. I will be looking for another doctor.

A very rude incompetent doctor that won’t refill patient meds or fix errors

Most unprofessional. Showed no interest in me as a person or as a patient. Very cold demeanor. Assumed she knew what I needed healthwise just by looking at me. More attentive to accompanying family member's comments than conducting a thorough exam of patient.

Dr. Walker has a wealth of knowledge and is a no-nonsense physician who is all about medicine and is not dictated to by the insurance company or churning through patients during the day. Conversely to several old postings, I find the front desk exceptionally good and far superior to many doctors offices. I can count on prescriptions being called in immediately without having to follow up. What can be improved upon are call backs on test results especially when they are concerning potential problems, thus the 4 stars and not 5.

Finally switched primary doctors after 3 years. Dr Walker has become more interested in her pc, while I'm looking at her back. She has zero bedside manner. I agree with the reviewer that stated "she just not right." She seems pretty much void of emotion and empathy. I gave her the benefit of the doubt waaaay too long! Love my new Dr at Scripps Solana Beach. That clinic is very friendy and extremely accomodating with lab and radiology on the premise.

She was very nice and professional. I felt like she listened and addressed all my concerns.
