List of John R. Backman's Reviews
I’ve been a patient of Dr Backman for many years. His intelligent approach to my health is amazing. I have complete confidence in his care. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He walks the walk as well and it shows in his physical appearance. He’s run over 100 marathons that speaks to his dedication!
I have been a patient of Dr Backman since January of 2005. In August of 2010, Dr Backman observed a significant increase in my PSA over 12 months He recommended I see a Urologist. After a prostate biopsy, I was diagnosed and successfully treated for early stage prostate cancer. He has been my physician and mentor. He has encouraged and advised my daily physical activity. I feel so very fortunate to be his patient Jack Guida Oceanside
Doctor Backman is the most caring and thorough doctor I have ever been to . He not only cares about your heart health but your overall wellbeing. I cannot say enough positive words about his thoughtfulness and attention to detail!
Dr. Backman is a doctor's doctor. I am a retired MD who went for a full cardiac work up because of my hypertension and atrial fibrillation. First of all he is very personable but more importantly experienced and competent. He diagnosed me accurately, got all the appropriate testing and then gave me excellent treatment and advice. It made me feel that he was involved with my overall health. His calm manner and reassurance made me feel I was with the best cardiologist. I recommend him highly.
I have no health insurance and I didn't realize I was racking up a huge bill for test I really didn't need. Staff let me down and I had to take out a second mortgage and I still have heart issues.
Dr. Backman is an excellent cardiologiat and is known as the "Marathon Doc" as he is a marathon runner. His bedside manner is unique in that he pushes cardio fitness and if you are not "with the program" and willing to undertake lifestyle changes to stay fit and healthy, you might not care for him. Some people want their healthcare sugar coated; that doesn't happen with John Backman, he tells it like it is, and I really appreciate his direct approach. I'm here almost four years after my cardiac event and follow-up with him on an as-needed basis now. As for the previous comment on his office being disorganized, they have moved to a new office next to the hospital with more room and better staffing. I agree the old office was problematic but no more. The new one is excellent in every way in my opinion.
Dr. Backman is very thorough and is focused on helping his patients improve their cardiac health. He is willing to spend time with his patients to thoroughly answer their questions.
In my opinion, Dr. Backman's OK, but his office staff is overwhelmed. You may also find that his patient load causes him to lose touch with you personally.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
